Title: Who Could've Complained About This?

jamiearmour - February 18, 2005 12:11 PM (GMT)
I listed this on the beeb trek board under the title "Time to clear the air" and someone complained about it and it was removed. Who could've done that eh?

QUOTE
Well, it's not too long now till this board (and all the other cult related
ones) go the way of Enterprise.  I for one am rather sad about that, I've
enjoyed (most) of my time here but for ONE or two little irritants.

When I first joined this board, it was full of intelligent and thoughtfull
people who read and respected the opinions of others, sadly that didn't
last too long:(

Like Poland we were not prepared for the invasion of a (probably) short
nasty little "man" (loosest definition possible) I refuse to use names here
as I really don't want this post to be removed.

This individual single handedly managed to reduce this board to one full of
back biting comments (which I am ashamed to admit I was responsible for a
few of them)  But it had to be done.

The person in question (and no one has any doubts as to who I mean, do
they? LOL) refused to listen to balanced and level headed discussion, he
posted flaming posts that angered the true star trek fans who came here.
He preached of the lessons to be learned from Trek, but did not learn them
himself, he was the most intolerant and indolent character that it has been
my misfortune to have dealings with (and I've worked with some BAD people
before this)

He tried to steamroll over genuine opinions held by others, and Gods forbid
yours should differ from his.  His dubious debating skills were constant
"I'm right, you're wrong.  So there"  My two and a half year old neices can
debate with more eloquence.

I don't need a dictionary to understand what a debate is, it's a situation
where opposing arguments are made AND listened to by two or more parties
until a discerning audience/jury votes to decide who's argument has most
merit.

A simplistic definition to be sure, but sometimes simplicity does the job
LOL.

This was/is a great place to be, and I will be sad when it goes in 10 days
time, but there will be one thing I will not miss, the inflamatory spamming
by the individual in question.

There, I've vented, and kept it more polite than it had any right to be.

I had a post removed yesterday off the Trek board yesterday, I only called Carl thick once :innocent:

laughitupfuzzball - February 18, 2005 12:52 PM (GMT)
  polite if you ask me

Number Six - February 18, 2005 12:52 PM (GMT)
Couldn't begin to guess Jamie

Strangely, I'll miss the little :shit:head

Number Six - February 18, 2005 12:53 PM (GMT)
Oops. Sorry about that :(

Hovis - February 18, 2005 03:41 PM (GMT)
That was excellent, Jamie.

Wish I'd actually read the post while it was still up, before the 'mother' button was pushed.

Shame it's not still there for us all to read, but at least it's here. I'm sure we all agree with every word you've written there.

I wonder whether he is in anyway responsible for the demise of the cult boards? He's certainly responsible for the decline in traffic on the Trek board over the last 8 months or so, since things really reached a head back in June, or whenever it was.

It's much better here, anyway, and I won't miss him when the board finally goes down.

Take care,

Andrew (HM) :upside:

jamiearmour - February 18, 2005 04:47 PM (GMT)
Thanks Andrew :D and everyone else who took time from their busy lives ( :whistling: ) to read this. I thought I was being positively restrained with that post, I was as polite as I could possibly be while addressing that little tw*t.

But I suppose it all comes down to one thing.... He cannot handle the truth. He's over there ranting about trek being set in the 40th century or whatever, I gave up when my post was removed. The mods over there, it seems, are flexing their muscles while they can. I'm just glad that in 11 days time they'll be registering at the jobcentre :lmao:

Oooh, that was evil, better watch I don't get modded :fear:

Don't worry, Jamie,

I won't tell!

I was on the beeb board an hour or so back... seems like posts were disappearing like flies almost as I watched. :wox:

Steve - February 18, 2005 06:43 PM (GMT)
I can never w**k out who sets the rules at the beeb as their boards differ quite radically as to posts being removed. On one board, the mod says no one is allowed to mention brands or shops and any which have these are quickly removed-while other forums dont appear to care and users are allowed to get away with murder.

Hell,on one board someone wanted a link to a particular site and i carefully spelt it out like>>>three w's________dot com and this wasnt deleted! :lmao:

I'll repost it on the Beeb. With a link here where he can't get it removed. I'm sure that'll cheer the little tw*t up no end

Crichton Kicks - February 18, 2005 07:48 PM (GMT)
Guests no longer having viewing access to the Star Trek board btw. Just in case tw*t was thinking of lurking here

Thanks Ken, I did try to keep it as level headed as possible to try and ensure it was not removed. (That worked well didn't it?)

Ah well, at least the intended recipient read it, or read enough of it to know it was about him :lmao:

jamiearmour - February 23, 2005 06:02 PM (GMT)
I don't know if he complained about this or not, but I posted it in reply to his attempt to belittle me for using a capital letter at the start of the word kudos. It was removed after only 10 mins. So either the mods are watching or someone complained..... Read for yourself.......

Here you go Jamie. If he wants to nitpick;

QUOTE
"I don't think you spell Kudos with a capital 'k', oh kindred intellelect!"
Not quite kindred. Jamie at least knows the spelling of the word. Let's look at your posts from today shall we ??

"I don't let the opinions of about a dozen peple on this board bother me"

"no doubt if I ever meet them they'll prestend never to have heard of me"

"unless the Empire Leicester Square planes to show them all again"

"I am the same age is he was then"

"oh kindred intellelect !" (see, that would have worked a whole lot better if you'd managed to spell intellect correctly).

"I never have commited murder"

"it's a faact"

You want to be careful Carl, people might start thinking you're a little thick.

The boards close at 10pm on Friday. They'll no doubt not instantly disappear, they'll just become read-only like other boards that have disappeared in the past.

Carl will no doubt not be anywhere near them on Friday evening. My post count is nearly the same as his now.

So, on Friday evening, my screen name will be changing for a while, and we'll all get a satisfactory closure to the board with regards to young master Rylander ;)

And the beauty is, he won't be able to respond or say it wasn't him

jamiearmour - February 24, 2005 07:42 PM (GMT)
OOOOHHHH. Evil, I like it

Did anyone else notice that half of the most recent posts have vanished? I got a very strange, and personal email from a mod, I'll paste it below. It's quite funny actually.......

Dear Contributor,

Thank you for posting a message to a BBC Message Board.  We very much
appreciate your interest in the message board, but are sorry to have to
tell you that your message has had to be removed.

If the board weren't closing, I would be barring you for that unwarranted
piece of nastiness.

Again, thank you for your time and interest. We hope we will hear from you
again very soon.

Best wishes,
BBC Message Board Moderator.

Oh Carl, if you really love Trek, you should be buying all the movies on
every available format going.  They need the money.  They need you to show
them how much you love Trek.  Go forth and purchase.

Jobcentre guy, "So what job skills do you have?"

Unemployed Mod, "Uhm. Errr. Dunno."

It wouldn't surprise if the whole thread got modded for that reason as opposed to the one particular post.

However, we can but hope Carl got a message saying 'Stop being a dick or we'll bar you ' :)

I know I said my easlier post was my last one, but I think I have to set the record straight before it's too late. You've all been quite right, I have indeed been winding you all up. I know it's silly, but I've not got much else to do. The truth of it is, I don't even like Star Trek all that much. I'm sure Val and the others will get a kick out of this, but I actually prefer Babylon 5. You were right all along, it's so much better.
To the people who I've annoyed for very little reason, I'm sorry. Andrew/Hovis - you have my unreserved apologies. You have often shown a grace and humility that I can only dream of ever having. TV Yank/Little Raven - you outclassed me time and time again. How I can only wish to one day be able to form posts with the craft and knowledge that you always displayed in yours. Number Six/Tony - I'm not a member of Mensa, and I've never taken a test. I was winding you up. I'm ashamed to say that I was intimidated by the intelligence shown by other posters here, and felt it necessary to embelish a few things. Neither do I possess any karate skills. I once hit a brown belt over the head, from behind, whilst he wasn't looking. Angel/Valhalla Sector - what can I say ? The better man eventually won. I know no one actually bought any of my arguments, and my deflectory tactics won me few friends, but it was the only way I could respond to your informed posts. Mine is the art of misquote and misrepresentation, they're the only real tools I have. To everyone else, I apologise for any and every offence that I've committed on this board. I'm sorry that I, time and time again, resorted to childish tactics/comments to try and win arguments in the face of insurmountable odds. I would finally like to apologise to the Mods and Hosts, I realise I should have been banned many months ago, your patience is vast.

So finally, I'd just like to say, please, please, please let me join the cult tv boards. I've nowhere else to go. And for the record, the Radio Times Guide to Science Fiction does actually state that Babylon 5 is better than Star Trek, and I did fall for last year's April Fool's day prank and actually believed that TJ Hooker was going to appear on Enterprise.

This is Carl Rylander signing off. Basement One, over and out.

Crichton Kicks - February 25, 2005 10:43 PM (GMT)
What p*sses me off most about Carl, is that the Beeb Star Trek board was once a bloody good board. There were plenty of decent people, all of whom could tolerate different views, and there was plenty of healthy debate. And then, what ?? two years ago, he started, and ever since then, he's just completely ruined that board.

I think we're lucky in the number of people we've managed to get over here before the end, but there are still plenty more that left the boards, who shouldn't have had to because of that little tw*t

This is very true - prior to Carl, the only person who was really annoying was that woman who claimed she worked for Paramount, and was adamant that Voyager was excellent, and the only reason we hated it was because we all had dicks, since it was a 'woman's show'

Out of interest, which people have we 'lost'? I can't think of anyone off hand...

I remember her. Lisa wasn't it ?? She stormed off in a huff after I slated Voyager one too many times

Who've we lost ?? None of the current regulars I don't think, but there are a few 'once in a while' posters like Insecticide and Kara. There are probably a few more as well, but I think we did pretty well in getting most of them across here.
