The arrival of Moya and her passengers throws the world for a loop, but John is too busy worrying about protecting the planet to enjoy the reunion with his family.

It’s hard to believe that it isn’t another trick, another alien trying to frell with John’s mind  But it seems it really IS John’s dad (plus a bunch of suits and military) waiting aboard Moya to welcome John. He is finally home almost 4 years after he left.

I always find this such a sad episode as each of the characters tries to deal with being on Earth.

John tries to fit back into the life he left behind but comes to realize that he is not the man he was when he left. He’s changed, and he can never go back. As he says himself, the things he’s done, the things he’s seen, the things that have been done to him, he isn’t the same John anymore. He’s almost as much an alien as the rest of Moya’s crew. He also knows that his presence on Earth is putting the entire planet in danger, so he’s hiding his wormhole knowledge and all that goes with it from his dad and the rest of the world. But he knows this isn’t going to be enough in the long run, something that is brought to light even more when Graza’s spy makes her move, killing DK and his wife and then attacking John, Aeryn and John’s family. John will have to leave earth to protect it.

Aeryn is also having a hard time dealing with being on Earth and her feelings for John. There is a lovely scene between Jack and Aeryn in her prowler as she tries to gently probe him about John’s feelings about being back on earth and about her. Jack advises her to give John time to sort things out.
Then there is the added threat of the old girlfriend who is back on the scene faster than you can say “Hi honey, I’m home!”, but it seems that John’s heart isn’t really in it and the old girlfriend seems to think that he is in love with Aeryn still. But his actions and apparent disinterest in her confuse the issue, and she is not sure where they stand. Finally she asks him outright, does he want her to stay or to go. Before he can give her an answer they get attacked by the beastie. Damn it!

The final scenes between John and his father as they say their goodbyes is quite emotional, as they both know that this may be the last time they ever see each other. Although at least this time they DO get to say goodbye.

How cool does John look in his leather coat and pants, slipping on his dark sunglasses and striding away towards his destiny, whatever that may be………

  ;)
