Title: 4.10 Coup By Clam
willowroolz - February 16, 2005 09:46 AM (GMT)

The crew makes a pit stop for a Leviathan tune-up, but sampling the local cuisine turns out to be a really bad idea when their meal turns into an attempted extortion-by-food-poisoning.

I really like this episode, it’s such a hoot!
The Doc reminds me of the child catcher from Chitty-Chitty, Bang-Bang, I think it’s the nose
His brain scan device is pretty cool, but the bit where he sticks a probe up your nose and lights up the inside of your skull? That I could live without :o
It’s quite a neat way to make money though. Give everyone who visits the planet food poisoning and only you have the cure- for a price, and quite a hefty one at that.
That Sikozu is a proper little busybody. Fancy her trying to tell Pilot how to run Moya! The cheek of that girl.
Sometimes you really have to wonder what terrible crimes the Moya crew were guilty of in a past life. They never seem to catch a break. Poisoned and blackmailed, D’Argo scarred for life by Grandma ( :fear: ), and now their only chance for a cure has been shot at , and not even by them ;)
I don’t know about you guys but I was actually surprised when Chi outed the mechanic as a girl – I wasn’t aware she was supposed to be a boy :lmao:
And does anyone else get the feeling that Ben Browder likes to dress up, he makes a real homely looking chick though, eh? And LOL at him trying to look coy. Rygel kinda resembled the bride from the top of a wedding cake with that white dress and tiara :D
Ok, not one of the best Farscape episodes ever, but lots of fun and full of action, cross-dressing and intrigue

Ben's face actually looks quite good with make up on which is quite scary :fear:
I know exactly what you mean about reminding you of chitty chitty bang bang, I have been trying to place what it reminded me of and thats it

It always astounds me just how vicious Rygel can be when provoked, biting the end of that guys nose off like that :x

That's my take on it, too. Strangely, it's one of the episodes I've seen the most - well, half of it anyway, cos I had two faulty dvds that froze in the same place, which meant I watched the first 30 minutes of the ep half a dozen times on different dvd players trying to w**k out if it was a problem with the disc or the players
Anyway, I really like it. Doctor Tumii is a scream (there's no way I would've guessed that it was Barry Otto under all that make up) and the idea of the crew becoming bodily "linked" after eating the molluscs is quite a funny set up for some of the toilet humour during the episode. Let's not talk about Noranti... :x
The cross dressing is also very funny. Rygel's line about needing to "blend in" is hilarious, although John's retort about not being able to blend in on "butt-ugly night" runs it a pretty close second
It also has the single scariest moment in the series since Rygel's S&M gear in Won't Get Fooled Again - only this time it's Rygel masquerading as a doctor :fear:
Very enjoyable :)

There is a lot I like about this episode.
Sikozu offering her finger, the girls thinking they are safe dealing with women. Didn't like the female group much however.
The Doctor was good but Rygel made it even funnier, probably my favourite scenes in this.
The whole clam eating experience and after effects I didn't like :x D'Argo was quite comical though.

I watched this again last night and thought of a reason why I didn't like it as much as earlier episodes. Its the way that they are no longer suprised or at least John isn't anymore by what happens and by their encounters.
Their attitude was very blazee (sp) laid back even though they were going to die horribly there wasn't any urgency, just getting in the gags.
Maybe thats why I like the earlier episodes more, its lost the :o and wonder at new creatures which of course is quite correct as John has certainly seen a lot on his travels now, but its lost something at the same time.

I think that by this point there had been so many people messing with John's head (literally and figuratively) that he had become very cynical about everything. Everyone wanted a piece of him - for whatever reason - and I think, as the series progressed, his attitude became gradually more and more aggressive, which is understandable. For me, this season was all about John taking back control of his life, or at least trying to. It nearly w.orked
And I've just realised that I've written this whole post in the past tense, which makes me feel a bit sad :tear:

This was a very funny and at times a gross episode which I found very enjoyable. I nearly wet myself laughing in the Noranti "scene" :lmao: and poor old Dargo must be scarred for life :x ... imagine if they had had to bond Naked. :x :x
I loved Rygel biting the doctor's nose off (he sooo deserved it!) and John in drag was hilarious

John in drag is always fun! Though he does seem to enjoy himself a little too much

I watched coup by clam again last night. I was laughing so hard virtually throughout the entire episode. Fantastic.
I forgot to mention previously I liked Scorpius coming to the rescue eating the clams to help John and the others survive. :) and ewww as he barfed it all up.
