Title: UPN: Enterprise Lives

LoobiLou - May 19, 2004 06:05 PM (GMT)
UPN renewed its ratings-challenged Star Trek: Enterprise for a fourth season, though it's likely to move to Fridays from Wednesdays next season, Variety reported. UPN is expected to make the formal announcement as part of its prime-time schedule in its "upfront" presentation to advertisers on May 20.

The fate of Enterprise, the last remaining active enterprise in the once-robust Trek franchise, has been in doubt all year, as ratings have stagnated despite what was regarded as a creative turnaround in the show's storylines. A season-long arc, focused on the Xindi alien threat to Earth, resolves in the third-season finale, "Countdown," which airs at 8 p.m. ET/PT on May 19.

...except won't it be resolved in next week's Zero Hour? :)

Hope so, as it certainly wasn't resolved in Countdown which I've finished watching literally 5 minutes ago :)

It's looking certain now that Enterprise will be back, but I guess it still won't be real until UPN come out and say it tomorrow.

Which they have now done - Friday at 9pm.

It's great news, and well worthy of celebration, but that timeslot is going to be a severe challenge :(

The only bright spot it's looking better than the old Wednesday night one. I haven't checked the full lineups yet but it was being mentioned over the past few days that CSI New York may inherit CSI Miami's old timeslot with the latter moving to Wednesday nights.

Well lets hope they build on this season then there wont be any more talk of cancellation.

Well I think we can both be agreed that the next season should be more about the creation of the federation and the ROMULAN war.

It's such an obvious thing, no wonder B&B havent thought of it

I remember when someone pointed out to Braga that the Romulan War should occur within Enterprise's timeframe he retorted with "The Romulans, the fans don't want to see them again, they've seen enough of the Romulans over previous years."

Hello ?? You're already rehashed the Borg and the Ferengi within the ENT timeframe, together with bastardising continuity by introducing countless new races !! And it's the ROMULANS we don't want to see ??

Braga, just has no clue whatsover

What worries me about the whole renewal is that I get the feeling they're just prolonging the inevitable. Enterprise isn't a high-rating show, and no matter how good the episodes are, it won't get the ratings desired. Look at Season 3 - a superb season - one of the best Trek seasons ever, and it still didn't get ratings which were anything better than disapointing.

Crichton Kicks - May 20, 2004 08:53 PM (GMT)
The thing about next season is that the show's going to have to do what Trek has never achieved and actually increase it's ratings.

Should Enterprise be in a similar situation this time next year then it's unlikely the show will be renewed again, don't forget they'll have even more episodes for syndication by that point :(

However, enough of the gloom. We should be celebrating. Even if we only get one more year, as long as it's as good as this year it's more than we expected at some points of this season.
