Chiana picks up some Uncharted Territories porn, and a game that sends John on a not-entirely merry romp through virtual reality...with no exit.

WTF??   :o

That's my review

Nah, not really. But it is one of those episodes that kind of brings about that sort of reaction. It's another Farscape exercise in lunacy. I don't know whether it's the unique combination of multi-national talent that worked on the series, but they have an ability to produce stories that feel quite unlike anything else to come off the American production line.

John Quixote has a very English feel to it, kind of like an episode of The Prisoner with a bit of Doctor Who and Blakes Seven thrown in for good measure. It looks amazing. The costumes and production design are, at times, quite breathtaking, making full use of the widescreen image, and the colour schemes are dazzling.

Ben Browder gets to write his second episode here, and it is a totally different kind of effort from season 3's Green Eyed Monster. He really lets his off the wall sense of humour run riot, and at times it is very, very funny. Of course it's not that original an idea, even the revelation that, when back on Moya, they are still in the game doesn't come as a shock. But it's carried off with such verve and energy that it doesn't really matter.

Love the Max Headroom skits, John and Chi's outfits are great, Claudia looks stunning both as Aeryn and the "princess" (and love the accent  ), and it's great to see old favourites like Alyssa-Jane Cook, Lani Tupu (who looks hilarious), Virginia Hey, Tammy Macintosh and Paul Goddard reappearing. In fact, I remember when I first watched it, it took about 20 minutes before I realised Stark's mask was on the wrong side of his face, he just looked wrong

And don't even get me started on series director Rowan Woods appearance as Big Zhaan :x

Rygel's unique take on a flamethrower :lmao:

D'Argo as the wicked witch

Love the framing of the shot at the start where Sikozu is talking to Scorpius through the cell door, very nicely done.

Again, it's an interesting ending to the episode, with Noranti giving Crichton some "distillate of Laka", which will help him to forget Aeryn, and then the painful moment where John walks past Aeryn and doesn't look back.

Well done Mr B

One thing I really love about this episode are all the references to previous episodes thrugh the season, old season one costumes, Gilina, Zhaan, I am going to have to watch it yet again to see how many there are because there are loads, so well done

 I really liked it when he realised the wrong Chi was with him too, the real Chi being tied up in dandy D'Argo's bizarro room.

Loved his imagining Scorpy escaping and creating trouble too which has been brewing in his mind, it is so pantomime but also quite menacing too.

And Ahhhh at Zhaan at the end - the real Princess bless :)

It was good that they got Virginia Hey to appear again, apparently it was a bit touch and go :)

 Well she always wanted to come back and it was a clever way to do it :)

Very :)

Can't blame her for not wanting to shave her head again either

I can't believe how old she is, she is 52 now which would have made her around 48 at the time she filmed this episode :o

Scorpy and Sikozu playing chess? Who taught them how to play?

This episode always reminds me of the Red Dwarf episode 'Better than Life', or, more precisely, the second Red Dwarf book also called Better than Life :D

Mind you, with all the film, tv and book references scattered throughout this episode thats probably to be expected.

I love the bit where John tries to pull Winona to shoot Scorpy but it's a banana instead :lmao: An oldy but a goody! Makes me chuckle anyway!

I like this epsiode, fun but very, very weird

That's the second time I've heard Farscape compared to Red Dwarf

melian - February 28, 2005 03:40 PM (GMT)
When was the first?

willowroolz - February 28, 2005 03:47 PM (GMT)
Lisa mentioned David had made the comparison a while back

melian - February 28, 2005 05:03 PM (GMT)
:lmao: This is the only episode that I can think of that has reminded me of RD. Which one was it that David saw?

willowroolz - February 28, 2005 05:10 PM (GMT)
Can't remember. Season 2 somewhere I think

melian - February 28, 2005 05:12 PM (GMT)
Thats got me all curious now  I wonder what it could have been.....

willowroolz - February 28, 2005 05:13 PM (GMT)
Don't make me go through all the threads to find out

But I made a big mistake of having David watch it with me , so constant questions, Red Dwarf comparisons (?  :o  ) aside, I'll have to rewatch before I do a review

Look at the Princess Pt 1

Oh, sorry, that was herd...

 just watched this yet again, I couldn't resist. It is among my favourite episodes. Not sure why only some times when I watch it its quite macabre and other times just hilarious.

The Rygel Thou shalt not pass has to be one of my favourite ever Ryg moments, just love him dressed up as the black Knight.

Striking scene of John drawing the wormhole equations with his blood and of course his worst nightmares coming to pass.

Again Ew at man Zhaan milking his lummas with acid :x

Some parts silly, some hilarious, some quite twisted and some very sad, especially seeing Zhaan again at the end and walking on past Aeryn.

Ben also looks very pretty with his eyes closed

;)
