Title: Tru Calling Renewed?

Crichton Kicks - May 17, 2004 07:13 PM (GMT)
According to the Futon Critic website it looks like Fox have picked up it's struggling first season show Tru Calling for a second season. Apparently Fox have given the go ahead to pick up the cast for the 2004-05 season.

That's good... I think. It hasn't really grabbed me yet, although the end of last weeks episode promised something interesting.

Crichton Kicks - May 17, 2004 07:20 PM (GMT)
The final two episodes, the last one in particular won me over. It ratched over the interest just at the right time, and it looks as though it may have worked in the States as well. There were many points in the first season where the thought of a second year looked particularly bleak.

What's this though ?? Fox showing patience ?? My God !!

Persephone - May 17, 2004 07:34 PM (GMT)
No Faith spinoff then :o

Back to speculation about Ripper then...................

Crichton Kicks - May 17, 2004 07:38 PM (GMT)
I think a Faith spinoff would have been doubtful next year anyway to be honest. Buffy interest at network level appears to be on the slide, and Joss will have his hands full with Serenity :)

willowroolz - May 17, 2004 07:41 PM (GMT)
What, he can't multi-task?

Crichton Kicks - May 17, 2004 08:08 PM (GMT)
Only if the networks let him ;)

Persephone - May 17, 2004 08:12 PM (GMT)
I thought he was a workaholic ;)

Crichton Kicks - May 17, 2004 08:25 PM (GMT)
He'd have to be a masochist, it would probably be cancelled after half a season if the last couple of years luck are anything to go by ;)

Persephone - May 17, 2004 08:28 PM (GMT)
Oh Bugger ;)

Psycho Jack - May 18, 2004 03:34 PM (GMT)
Chances of a UK terrestrial channel picking it up . . . zero to none!

Crichton Kicks - May 18, 2004 05:25 PM (GMT)
I seem to recall one of the terrestrial sniffing around the broadcasting rights a few weeks ago. Can't remember exactly but C4 or C5 would appear likely.

Incidentally, Sci-Fi Wire are now also carrying the news of Tru's renewal. Guess it'll become official on Thursday along with all the others :) Come on ENTERPRISE !!

Well, if you believe saveenterprise, it has been renewed :)

Crichton Kicks - May 18, 2004 05:31 PM (GMT)
I won't believe anything until it comes from UPN :)

But, things are looking good :)

TV Yank - May 18, 2004 06:45 PM (GMT)
SciFiWire says they got their info from VARIETY which is a pretty reliable source. UPN announces its schedule May 20.

Crichton Kicks - May 18, 2004 06:51 PM (GMT)
Didn't Variety earlier in the week summise that Enterprise was likely not to be renewed ??

It's looking increasingly likely that Enterprise WILL be renewed, although the timeslot change is still heavily rumoured to see the show moving to Fridays. Not a good thing :(

There's still the question of how many episodes next season will bring as well. Not to mention Berman's fate.

At least things will get a little clearer by Thursday :)

Likely but not very. Track record of Sky to C4 shows aint all that good, is it?! Or C5 for that. Just look at Alias. And they said outright that they wouldn’t be interested in 24 purely because it had been aired on Sky first!

And yes, I read that Enterprise was getting the boot too. I’m surprised to hear its been picked up again! <_<

Crichton Kicks - May 18, 2004 08:37 PM (GMT)
Not sure there. Sky to C4 isn't that bad, Angel and Alias aside. Scrubs does well for them, as does Stargate, Enterprise and even the awful Andromeda.

Phillip Culley - May 18, 2004 09:10 PM (GMT)
Right now everyone's saying everything about Enterprise. On one front Variety is saying it's not hopeful, while saveenterprise says it has been renewed.

Personally, reading between the lines, I think it will be back, just not on Wednesday nights. Whether it's moves somewhere better or not remains to be seen :)

Crichton Kicks - May 18, 2004 09:40 PM (GMT)
Just so long as it doesn't move to Friday ;)

It also depends on just how much damage the WB wants to do to the show. Where ever UPN move Enterprise to, WB could just as easily move Smallville to match :)

I'm 90% confident of renewal at this point. The slightly good news is that if UPN really wanted to kill the show then they could have done it now. If they renew it then obviously they're willing to give it another chance. This being the case I don't think they'll move it to Fridays.

Psycho Jack - May 18, 2004 11:29 PM (GMT)
Friday night seems to be gradually becoming Third Watch night. Well for the 10pm slot anyway, it was grabbing a big share consistantly so it got renewed for sixth season. Which is well deserved imo.

Scrubs and Stargate I’ll buy. But the former did enjoy a good timeslot and latter has a very big established fan base. Arguably so did Alias and Angel, but crap scheduling made it doubly hard.

Last I heard about Enterprise, it was leaking audience faster than a broken dilithium crystal (see what I did there?! ;) ) hence the move to an earlier slot. Which totally rnied for me as I work til 5 every Sunday and frankly couldn’t be bothered to use the video!

I’m just not convinced that C4 will look at Tru Calling. Having said that, I’d like to see them go after Nip/Tuck and Las Vega. :D

Persephone - May 19, 2004 11:48 AM (GMT)
I'm sure Nip/Tuck has already been bought by C4 ;)

Crichton Kicks - May 19, 2004 04:04 PM (GMT)
I heard that as well about Nip/Tuck. Not sure about Las Vegas though. Haven't heard anything there.

Persephone - May 19, 2004 04:12 PM (GMT)
Can't get into that at all, Las Vegas, it's definitly not for me ;)

Crichton Kicks - May 19, 2004 04:22 PM (GMT)
I gave up on it as well. But then, I still haven't watched all of Nip/Tuck either.

Persephone - May 19, 2004 04:26 PM (GMT)
I think once they got over the sensation of showing a lot of female flesh, it got a lot better. My brother got me into watching it, he kept raving on, then again I shouldn't really trust him, he's got terrible taste in TV

Crichton Kicks - May 19, 2004 04:30 PM (GMT)
Think my brother's d/l them all, so I'll get around to them at some point. Haven't even got enough time at the moment though to watch the shows I know I like :)

Persephone - May 19, 2004 04:33 PM (GMT)
I'm finding it hard to get into anything, what's the point, they'll only cancel it ;)

Crichton Kicks - May 19, 2004 04:46 PM (GMT)
Joan of Arcadia's good. Already renewed for season 2 and is one of those shows that's unlikely to be cancelled.

Carnivale's another one if you like the XF/Twin Peaks vibe. Again, renewed for next season.

melian - May 19, 2004 04:49 PM (GMT)
I started watching Nip/Tuck just because I had to see for myself what a show about plastic surgery was all about. My male house mate watched it too and we were pretty much hooked from the first episode. As for Las Vegas, I gave it a go for much the same reasons as Nip/Tuck. I mean what on earth could they find to write about security in Las Vegas? Quite a lot it turns out :D And yet again, I am hooked

melian - June 23, 2004 08:53 AM (GMT)
BTW - Does anyone know why Sky One didn't put on a new episode last night?

Persephone - June 23, 2004 11:17 AM (GMT)
I'd say because of the english guy stabbed to death in Lisbon, obviously the Tru Calling ep, must have featured a mugging/stabbing
