Late night Prisoner double-bills coming to BBC Four.

The cult sixties series The Prisoner is to be screened in its entirety on digital channel BBC Four, starting on 11th June 2004.

The creative brainchild of former Danger Man Patrick McGoohan, the surreal ITC series told of a secret agent held captive in The Village, a beautiful but sinister community of former spies deemed too dangerous to be allowed out in the real world.

Number Six, played by McGoohan has resigned - and his masters want to know why. Can he escape from The Village before they break him?

Filmed on location at the unforgettably bizarre Portmerion in Wales, the series is best remembered for its killer weather balloons and frequently unfathomable scripts. In fact, the final episode baffled so many people that McGoohan fled the country to avoid the outcry over what on Earth it all meant.

Although schedules are still being finalised, expect an 11pm slot for the double bill. Full details will be available on the BBC Four website nearer the time.

Oh excellent, I used to love the prisoner when I was a kid. Has anyone ever been to Port Merrion (is that right?) where it was filmed, absolutely mad place.

Why is it mad?

Its a mix of multicoloured buildings (very 'spanish') with odd things placed here and there, I seem to remember there being some kind of trail there too. It's just mad cos it's totally out of synch with the surrounding areas and coast.

There's a place up in Liverpool called Port Sunlight which believe me is beautiful, it's like a village but it has an art gallery slap bang in the middle of it, and it backs into one of the roughest parts, it also looks totally misplaced if you understand what I'm trying to say
