Title: Do We All Read Sfx?

ken1701e - January 20, 2005 07:37 PM (GMT)
It seems a lot of us read SFX magazine? Is that true?

I wondered what other MAGAZINES (not comics) that we all read on a regular basis?

I get PC ZONE every month (got about 5 years worth in cupboard) and RETRO GAMER (Although I give that away once I have read it). I occasionally buy DR WHO MONTHLY but I am going to try to buy that more often from now on.

laughitupfuzzball - January 20, 2005 07:43 PM (GMT)
Yes...

PS2 Official mag, Buffy, Angel, Empire, Starburst sometimes, Cult times sometimes, Total film sometimes,

Pretty much any mag that has an article to do with Whedon stuff or Farscape :)

willowroolz - January 20, 2005 07:45 PM (GMT)
SFX occasionally, and Total Film. Regularly I get Games TM, but apart from that it's just anything I see that has something of interest to me. :)

jamiearmour - January 20, 2005 07:47 PM (GMT)
Yep I get it every month, as well as Wizard: The guide to Comics.

The Doc also gets Star Trek Magazine, technically a bi-monthly now, and Empire. We also get a variety of DVD mags (depending on which one has the better free disc on the front.)

Laura - January 20, 2005 07:52 PM (GMT)
SFX is the only magazine I get on a regular basis.

Used to get STAR TREK MAGAZINE but havent bought it for years now.

As for WIZZARD never seen that anywhere.

I don't. The only time I've bought SFX was when it was the buffy special, last year. I did occasionally use to read sfx if my mate brought it into w**k in my last job.

The only magazine I buy on a semi regular basis is the Official PS2 mag.

Persephone - January 20, 2005 09:21 PM (GMT)
Sometimes I buy SFX :ermm:

I used to buy the NME and Kerrang on a weekly basis, but the crap they cover in both now has stopped that <_<

laughitupfuzzball - January 20, 2005 09:28 PM (GMT)
I used to buy the NME religiously years ago

Persephone - January 20, 2005 09:34 PM (GMT)
Me too, it's really gone downhill now. :(

Crichton Kicks - January 20, 2005 10:05 PM (GMT)
Don't much like SFX, prefer TV Zone and Dreamwatch

NJS - January 20, 2005 10:05 PM (GMT)
I used to buy SFX every month then they gave Inside Out 2*s and described the Goddess' appearance as "boring" so I stopped.

I used to buy NME every week but when U2 "cameback" in 2001 Bono made a remark about "reapplying for the job of best band in the world" and some snot-nosed, sneering, failed musician of a so called journalist said "we'll get back to you" so I stopped.

I read Q or PC Pro occasionally if I have a plane/train journey to fill..

LoobiLou - January 20, 2005 10:09 PM (GMT)
I don't...but then the only magazine i buy is more

Margot C - January 20, 2005 10:15 PM (GMT)
Nope, never read SFX in my life.

I sometimes buy NME or Kerrang if bands I like are in them, but that's it.

I used to get several amgazines, but these days I only bother about Doctor Who Magazine, and Angel magazine which I send to Krystal :)

And the less said about Star Trek 'Everything B&B does is great' Monthly the better :)

Very funny!!!!!!

I probably would produce a better magazine than they do if I was.

Re-dreamwatch - never read that one is it good?

Stick a chimp in a room with a typewriter and you'd get a better-written mag than STM

Dreamwatch is pretty good, about the same as TV Zone.

closertogod - January 20, 2005 11:07 PM (GMT)
and the answer is.............

No.

now close the thread.

Persephone - January 20, 2005 11:15 PM (GMT)

Actually, being fair to STM, I think they're stuck with what Paramount say - I believe the magazine has to be vetted so that they don't print anything derogatory.

Which is why I like Doctor Who Magazine - they're allowed to say the truth about certain episodes being very bad (I remember the infamous reviews for Battlefield and Time-Flight :) )

Nick - January 21, 2005 08:52 AM (GMT)
I haven't bought a magazine regularly since Sky magazine about 10 years ago, before that it was the transformers comic

does Sky magazine still exist???

Hovis - January 21, 2005 09:01 AM (GMT)
Yep. Read SFX pretty much for the last couple of years. I enjoy it... I'm sure there are better sci fi mags out there, but if I start buying more mags, I'll get shot.

Also, I get Wisden Cricketer, Star Trek Monthly (cough, cough... I actually find the B & B sucking up quite funny! But sometimes, it can be interesting. But it has gone downhill in recent months, I think.). Also Empire, Championship/Football Manager and the odd PC magazine if there looks to be anything of interest.

Take care,

Andrew (HM) :upside:

melian - January 21, 2005 11:06 AM (GMT)
I buy SFX and Empire :D

laughitupfuzzball - January 21, 2005 12:17 PM (GMT)
 How could I forget Dreamwatch, I buy that too, I spend way to much on mags

star_fury - January 21, 2005 04:14 PM (GMT)
I've never even read SFX :whistling: and the only magazine I read regularly is PCW.

Stewie Griffin - March 11, 2005 12:56 AM (GMT)
I get Dreamwatch, Empire, First Down and DVD Review. Never really seen SFX to be honest, but I will try to check it out.

Cardelia - March 11, 2005 01:27 AM (GMT)
I used to buy Cult Times, but stopped a while back. Don't buy any others - most of them are either crap or the content doesn't interest me.

SFX, on the other hand, has a category all to itself. Depending on how vitriolic I'm feeling, I usually rate it somewhere along the lines of "it's not even good enough to clean diarrhoeic monkey excrement out of a cesspit" :)

Morrish - March 11, 2005 03:10 PM (GMT)
Hell yeah, I have been an SFX subscriber for the last 5 years.

I also read Empire, Total Film and the Buffy and Angel mags.

Jen - March 15, 2005 11:34 AM (GMT)
I also get SFX. Well, my Dad does, and we share it. Then he gives it me to rip all the Buffy/Angel stuff out, and put it into my file. I'll buy any magazine with Buffy/Angel on the cover.

Other magazines I get every month -

Buffy
Angel
Dreamwatch
Starburst
Non-Sport Update (trading card magazine)

Odd months -

Cult Times
TV Zone
X-Pose
Empire
Toyfair

I've been getting SFX/Dreamwatch/Buffy for over 5 years now... SFX for over 7. I like magazines, lol.
