Title: 4x18 In A Mirror, Darkly (1 Of 2)

No details yet, other than this being the first of a two parter involving the 'mirror universe'.

How interesting - it seems they're actually going for a 2-part episode, rather than a '2 episode story arc'.

Shame the episode title sounds absolutely hideous :)

Crichton Kicks - January 20, 2005 12:17 AM (GMT)
Think they've used every other play on the word 'mirror' already though Phillip

This is the one that they have allegedly re-worked the opening titles for isn't it?

That at least sounds different

Let's just hope that's not the only thing we're talking about after the episode though

A sneak peek at the production of "In a Mirror, Darkly", the mirror universe duology set to air in April, reveals that at least one dead character will return as his own nasty alter ego.

A brief report at StarTrek.com quoted Vaughn Armstrong, who played the late, lamented Admiral Forrest, as saying that not only does he return - he gets the girl in the upcoming arc. "In 25 years [of acting], I haven't gotten the girl, but I come back here and I get the girl! This is great," he exclaimed.

Scott Bakula, who plays Armstrong's rival rather than his protege in the mirror universe, joked, "Didn't we kill you already?" In the episodes, Archer starts out as Forrest's second in command but plots to become a captain himself, while Sato plays the two men off of one another and sides with whoever is in command. Armstrong confessed that his character meets a similar fate in the mirror universe to the tragedy that befell him in the Vulcan embassy bombing in "The Forge" earlier this season, "but this death is much better!"

Writer Mike Sussman described the episode as a prequel to the original series episode "Mirror, Mirror", which introduced the universe later inhabited by the Intendant on Deep Space Nine. It's also a sequel to "The Tholian Web" and will reportedly feature interior shots of the Defiant, the starship lost in that 23rd century episode in a spatial rift. "I think the bridge set is remarkable," said Sussman, who described "Mirror, Mirror" and "The Tholian Web" as two of his favorite original series episodes. "I hope fans will be thrilled to see that set again in all of its glory."

For the scenes on the Defiant, director James Conway and production designer Herman Zimmerman worked out a detailed set described as nearly identical to the original series' Enterprise, NCC-1701. The official site noted a debt to Doug Drexler, who did the research to build a Constitution-class ship for DS9's "Trials and Tribble-ations" which was set in part on Captain Kirk's Enterprise as well.

Apsolute Brilliance.

Excellent from the pre-title sequence (stealing a little bit from FIRST CONTACT) through to the new opening titles right to the final sequence.

I am sure there will be very few people who will not be impressed with this episode.

Cannot wait for the next one.

Oh and anyone who likes either HOSHI or TPOL has definately got to see it.

Bring Back Enterprise...

...as long as they only do mirror episodes. These last two eps were IMHO, the best Enterprise there's been and probably the best mirror episodes there's been.

Good grief - a Season 4 episode I've actually enjoyed, and wanted to see the resolution to! :o

While I doubt this premise could works as an ongoing series, it's really nice to see the mirror universe dealt with without feeling the need to add baggage from 'our universe' (although this does bring up a problem with regard to cliffhangers - can you really get worried for someone who you know you'll never see again after this episode? Maybe this should have been a 90 minute feature length story - perhaps it could even have been left as a "coda" at the end of the series after 'These Are the Voyages'...)

I think the only real problem I had with it was bringing in the USS Defiant from TOS's 'The Tholian Web' - it felt like it was answering yet another one of those questions never asked that this season has liked to deal with.

Still, fantastic stuff - and one of the season's highlights!

Now this was more like it! After last week's total dross, we get something head and shoulders above what we've seen in season 4 to date, and is perhaps the best of all four seasons, certainly the most exciting.

The teaser was great... loved the spin on the 'First Contact' meeting. Loved the reworked credits. Brilliantly done. Seeing the evil Phlox was somewhat disturbing, and loved the alternative Porthos :fear: . (I'm not sure Hoshi was wise pulling the knife on Archer, with that Porthos!) Loved JB with the long hair too!

This is how it should be done... Enterprise appears to want to be an ensemble show, and this was one of the few episodes where every main cast member had a significant role. Even Travis ( :lmao: at his hair though!) and Hoshi ( ). Great to see 'Captain' Forrest, too.

Seeing the Defiant floored me... I fell into the trap (as I'm sure I was supposed to) of expecting to see 'our' NX1 instead. It's years since I watched 'The Tholian Web'... I'm way behind on my TOS watching, despite having the DVD's, so I'll catch up on this one before the second part. The Tholian him/her/itself was beautifully realised, as was the web, 2005 style.

The usual of course, is for the second part not to live up to the first, so I'm hoping not to be disappointed with the concluding part, but I'll be positive and say I'm looking forward to next week's episode even more than I have been for any Enterprise episode, apart from 'Broken Bow' perhaps.

If the episodes running up to the finale are all as strong as this, at least the show will be going out on a high. Fingers crossed anyway.

'Batman Begins' followed by last night's Enterprise... a great night for movie and tv watching for me!

Actually, Part 2 is pretty good as well. Does my avatar count as a spoiler?

Lol! I think we'll let you off on that one! Any excuse to see as much T'Pol and Hoshi is possible!

Glad to hear part 2 is good as well! Roll on Tuesday next week!

Just got around to watching this last night. Bloody hell! So they can do excellent stuff, after all. Shame we had to wait this long.

I suppose this was the ultimate in fanwank (to use Phillip's phrase). Tholians, the mirror universe, TOS style ship and equipment, but it was trult excellent. Good to see the change of title scene, the sort of thing that B5 would do, and good also to see James Cromwell reprising his role as Zephram Cochran for the pre-title bit.

All that and Hoshi and T'Pol too :naughty:

Roll on tonight.

Actually, if you look carefully you'll see that everything up to Cochrane pulling out the gun is the same footage from First Contact - as soon as things deviate from the film you only see a close-up of a hand pulling out a gun, and a close up of a Vulcan chest getting shot - so conveniently avoiding the need to get Cromwell and whoever played the Vulcan back in :)

I dunno, I think the uniforms for the evil Federation could be more pervy, somehow.
