Title: Season 5 Dvd Set...
Description: How hard can it be to get it right?
Phillip Culley - January 17, 2005 10:30 PM (GMT)
Given WB's reputation for messing up the B5 DVDs (such as the And the Sky Full of Stars widescreen cock-up, the wrong Delenn caption on the first 2 episodes of Season 2, the wrong credits for The Deconstruction of Falling Stars and the whole changing of the box set design for Season 4), you'd have thought they could have got Season 5 correct, surely :)
So far I can see a spine image that's out of sync with the rest of the set (despite supposedly being identical to Season 4), and the special credits for The Corps is Mother, the Corps is Father (they've used the generic credits as opposed to the special 'Trust the Corps' credits).
Can someone please tell me they've at least got the Sleeping in Light credits correct...

Given that they had no problem airing it on C4 I'm surprised they haven't included it on the DVD, can't imagine it's a clearance issue with the BBFC. Pretty sure it was on the VHS set as well

Why is it I get the feeling I want to keep back a few specific VHS tapes now :)
Crichton Kicks - January 17, 2005 10:55 PM (GMT)
It's frustrating. If this is supposedly the ultimate version of the episodes, why make cuts ??
Phillip Culley - January 17, 2005 10:57 PM (GMT)
So they can do a Paramount and fob us off in 5 years time with the 'ultimate editions' :)

Possibly, but I doubt people would get them for the minor differences alone.
Looking at the sets side by side on the shelf, Seasons 1 and 3 are in synch, 2 and 4 are in synch and 5's all on it's own looking well out of place
Crichton Kicks - January 17, 2005 11:43 PM (GMT)
Upon checking, the closing credits for SiL appear to be fine
Phillip Culley - January 19, 2005 10:15 PM (GMT)
Idiots!
Fucking, incompetent idiots!!!
Just got to 'The Fall of Centauri Prime', and it seems that in their infinite wisdom, Warner removed the entire pre-credits teaser. No 'previously on Babylon 5', and more frustratingly they've removed nearly 3 minutes of the episode proper!
Crichton Kicks - January 19, 2005 11:47 PM (GMT)
Just as well I've kept my d/l copies by the sounds of it

Don't think they are.
I'd be curious to see whether they've done the same with the Region 1 versions though. They're not necessarily the same.
Phillip Culley - January 19, 2005 11:57 PM (GMT)
I was thinking the same thing about the R1 DVDs - perhaps it's worth downloading the relevant DVD-rip and seeing what it has...

I'm just wondering, with the Season 5 set being rated as 12, whereas Season 4 was a 15, I wonder if they had to cut it down to get it through the BBFC as a 12.
Although, if that were the reason you'd have to question the logic. If they didn't have a problem with Season 4 being a 15, why would they with Season 5 ??
Odd.
Might try and get a hold of a Region 1 rip at some point.
Phillip Culley - January 20, 2005 12:31 AM (GMT)
It's odd - I checked to see what I was missing, and all you really get is Londo rescuing G'Kar from his cell, and the two of them going up to discover that the Drakh are controlling the Regent, while Sheridan receives the news that Delenn and Lennier's White Star hasn't been in contact for 12 hours...
And I just checked my VHS - Volume 5.09 (with Movements.... and Fall...) is only rated a 12.
What won't help though is that it seems this episode was only submitted to the BBFC as a 38 and a half minute cut, so if they were to repress it, they would have to get it reclassified. Which would be too much hassle for Warner Home Video to worry about...

Probably worth it - I've just heard the R1 edition has the complete episode!
Crichton Kicks - January 20, 2005 06:07 PM (GMT)
If only we'd known about this last week  I'd have ordered the Region 1 set.
And to think, we've held out for how long now for the Region 2 set ?? 6 months at least. Doh !!!

Grrr
Me too.
Phillip Culley - January 20, 2005 06:31 PM (GMT)
What's worse is that the damned thing was staring me in the face and tempting me for 3 months while I was in Canada...
Question is do I bother ordering the R1 set now, or just acquiring the R1 DVD rips of Corps is Mother and Fall of Centauri Prime?
Crichton Kicks - January 20, 2005 06:40 PM (GMT)
In the grand scheme of things, if you can live with the cuts made, you can just stick with the DVDs I guess.
Of course, you could probably demand a refund on the basis that this clearly isn't "The Complete Fifth Season" as claimed on the front of the box
Phillip Culley - January 20, 2005 10:17 PM (GMT)
Had it not been for the Fall of Centauri Prime gaffe, then I would have lived with it.
So, the question is, do we find an address for Warners and complain in masses (of a handful of us :)
Crichton Kicks - January 20, 2005 10:23 PM (GMT)
It would be interesting to see what they'd say if you did take the 'It's not the ENTIRE fifth season' approach.

Arrgghh! Got season 5 on region 1 DVD at home, was looking forward to sitting down to watch it and my bloody DVD player won't accept it.... :(

Poppy, you could always hack your player making it multi-region compatible! What brand of DVD player do you have? You may be able to get this done for free depending on your brand of player.

don't I know it! At least it only cost me £23.50 to get my Sony player multi-region. By the way I think you'll find JVC and possibly Toshiba DVD players and have a free hack either.

I have just checked my video recordings and it's a nasty chunk missing! I was going to order the reasonably cheap Australian version of season five but apparently they have suffered the same cuts as us in region 2 land. So regrettably I'm going to have to get the region 1 at extra expense.
If anybody finds an address for Warners I'm going to write and complain!
star_fury - March 13, 2005 04:56 PM (GMT)
... I don't suppose anybody has heard whether the European versions of season five have been cut?
star_fury - March 13, 2005 05:14 PM (GMT)
In case anyone is interested apparently the German version of season five was cut as well .
Phillip Culley - March 13, 2005 05:49 PM (GMT)
I do have an address which was given after the S1 mistake on And the Sky Full of Stars - I'll find it out later on tonight :)

Tough luck, you've already sold them to me... and they're something I've paid for. :p
That said, I could try getting downloads of the R1 DVDs for S5 for you, if they'll do the job. :)

Actually, I did comtemplate that.
Find me online one day before Friday :)
goth willow fan - March 13, 2005 11:32 PM (GMT)
Just started a new d/l of the second half of S5 (says DVDRip, hopefully R1 DVD  )
Is it definitely only these 2 eps they've fucked up?
May consider getting the R1 set from play at the end of the month.

Unless there's something more that I've missed, then it's just 'Corps is Mother...' and 'Fall of Centauri Prime' :)
And that address I mentioned earlier is thus:
Warner Home Video
Warner House

London

I can confirm that the DVD Rip of FoCP is complete, but as far as I could tell TCiMTCiF just had a standard ending credits sequence

Just looked again and it does have "Trust the Corps" in the title sequence, how I missed it when I looked before I don't know

Yes it's from the R1 and includes the "previously" and the teaser.
and TCiMTCiF includes the the Psi Corps logo and "Trust the Corps" in the opening credits instead of the B5 dagger logo.
