| As with SG1 Season 8, Atlantis is slated to debut on the Sci Fi Channel in the States sometime in July, probably towards the front end of the month. |
Possibly the 16th of July, as the quote says? :)

Hmm, perhaps next time I might read the damned thing before I paste it

How accessible do you think this series will be for people who haven't followed the original series? Like me. :D
melian - July 13, 2004 02:03 PM (GMT)
I shouldn't think there will be much problem.
I mean the basic premise behind it is pretty easy as most people know what the Stargate is and what it does. I'm sure it will all be recapped in the pilot episode anyway for the newbies :D
willowroolz - July 13, 2004 02:11 PM (GMT)
Now that I've cleared some space on my shelves I could conceivably start getting the original series. Those box sets are still going cheap, aren't they?

I barely remember season 1 of SG!, i only bought the pilot on video.
I am not so sure about Stargate Atlantis, it wasn't at all what i thought it would be. I thought it would be about the Ancients not just another SG team getting stranded.
Crichton Kicks - September 1, 2004 09:13 PM (GMT)
I have to say, I'm really enjoying Atlantis so far. My initial concern would be that it would simply be an SG1 knockoff, but it's rapidly establishing itself as an interesting show in it's own right.
The Wraith provide the threat that's been absent from SG1 for such a long time now, the Goa'uld have become little more than a parody, which leaves you with the too infrequent appearances of the Replicators to provide anykind of realistic threat. Don't get me wrong, I still love SG1, but Atlantis is, at the moment, providing a fresh approach that I'm finding particularly appealing. :)
Darris - September 1, 2004 09:21 PM (GMT)
Well once the replicators made an appearance i have to say i lost interest in SG1. I think like a lot of tv shows, the more storys they make the quality of the show seems to decline.
Crichton Kicks - September 1, 2004 09:32 PM (GMT)
It's the Goa'uld that annoy me on SG1, they've gone from ultra-badass nemesis to a parody :(
The Replicators, I like. They're like the Borg on Star Trek before Voyager managed to emasculate them.
Ordinarily I'd tend to agree, that the longer a show goes on the more profound the decline in quality, ie. The X-Files, but SG1, for me, doesn't suffer that badly. There are a few duffers here and there, but generally speaking, I'm more interested in SG now than I was a few years ago. Even though I watched the series since it first aired on Sky One 8 years ago, I checked out for a couple of years, around season 4/5.
