A brand new series of novels based on Stargate SG-1 is now in production! Published by London-based Fandemonium Books, the new series of books will kick off in June with "Trial By Fire," with a new book expected about every two months thereafter.
Fandemonium has also launched a Web site dedicated to the novels, at StargateNovels.com. Fans can register at the site for e-mail updates straight from the publisher.

"We're huge fans of Stargate SG-1 and have been for years," Fandemonium director Sarah Malcolm told GateWorld. "What we love most about the Stargate universe is the characters who populate it, and above all we want to tell new stories about SG-1. They're the reason we're fans, and like most fans we just want their adventures to continue!"

"Beyond that, Stargate's is an incredibly rich universe," Malcolm said. "It gives us scope to not only play with traditional science fiction concepts, but also to tap into the fascinating ancient mythologies of our own world. And, perhaps because it's set in the here and now, it has a distinctive edge, humour and grittiness that is quite compelling."

Written by Sabine C. Bauer, "Trial By Fire" brings SG-1 to the planet Tyros, where they find an ancient society that is teetering on the brink of war. And when Colonel O'Neill is kidnapped, he soon discovers that his only chance of survival may be to join forces with a ruthless enemy. The novel carries a retail price of £5.99.

While the books will be available worldwide, don't look for them in U.S. bookstores any time soon. They will be available to order online, though, at Fandemonium's own site as well as Amazon.co.uk.

Four novels have been previously published in the U.S. by ROC Publishing (a division of Random House), which cancelled the series in early 2001 (story). The books became notorious among fans for their lack of attention to the details of the Stargate universe.

The new series, the publisher promises, will be written "by authors who truly love and understand the show."

There is no word on the status of the U.S. novel license, or whether Fandemonium's Stargate novels will eventually make their way across the Atlantic

Let's hope they're better than most TV series tie-ins. Although with seven seasons to look at now you'd think they'd have enough to be able to write the characters accurately :)

Interesting - I know I'm not going to bother with them though (I don't have the time for novels myself :)). I never bothered with the original novels though - did anyone actually try them?

What I also saw advertised (I think it was on Amazon) was a Stargate script book featuring six scripts (it didn't say which - anyone want to play a speculation game? :))

No, I don't think I'll have time for the novels either.

I'm still trying to work my way through David Brin's Uplift series of novels as it is :(

Re the scripts, I'm guessing the pilot and a first season selection ;)

Actually, I'm loking at it now, and it might even be more recent - they've made an effort to get a Season 7 cast shot :)

Personally, the one book I'm waiting for is the reviser version of Keith Topping's Beyond the Gate - a very good guide (even though there are several reviews I disagree with :))

You know I don't think I've got any non-fiction TV tie-ins since the old TNG and DS0 log books.

On reflection I lie, I've bought a B5 book by Andy Lane as well as both the Leonard Nimoy books about his days on Trek, as well as a few episode Guides for TXF.

Phillip Culley - May 17, 2004 12:59 PM (GMT)
Those Andy Lane books were good'uns - it's just a shame that come Season 5 he was so disillusioned with how the series had ended that it showed in his comments :(

I've not got as many guide myself in a long while - I think the most recent ones were a Doctor Who one, and the Stargate one. However my collection also yields the 2 Babylon 5 volumes, a few Simpsons guides, and a free Pocket Essentials guide to Buffy I got when I ordered one of the Season 2 VHS sets from Blackstar :)

I just don't see the point of buying Guides now as you can usually find more entertaining ones on the net. The XF ones were pretty good though, from what I remember :)

Phillip Culley - May 17, 2004 05:18 PM (GMT)
True, but I do prefer having something which nicely collates everything together in one bundle rather than having to search it out on the net from 100 different sources.

Plus it's nice to actually hold a book :)

My book reading's even further behind than my DVD watching :(

Just seen an update on Amazon- the Stargate script book will contain the scripts for:

The Torment of Tantalus
The Fifth Race
Window of Opportunity
2010
Wormhole X-Treme!
Abyss

Aside from Abyss (which I still think is overrated, and only gets its reputation cause of the fact that DANIEL'S BACK!!, so it must be great...) it's quite a good selection!

Hmmpphh. No Cold Lazarus

It does look like a cracking selection of episodes though doesn't it ?? I'd have to agree regarding Abyss, I've never been that enamoured with it myself. An average episode at best IMO. They should have included Full Circle instead.
