Title: Episodes 4x01 And 4x02
Description: Discuss season 4...
Flamingo - January 7, 2005 09:52 PM (GMT)
OH MY GOD. :lmao:
I found it slightly confusing at the start, as they werent really explaining anything, but then things started falling into place and it became season 1ish again...
I really wasnt expecting what Syd admitted to Vaughn about what her father had done, :o and I still can't accept the why Irina would want to kill Syd in the first place. Im so in denial Irina is dead, I think she's probably alive somwhere and this is just another cover up. :ph43r: B) Why for instance would Jack ask for permission to kill Irina? ! Ooh and when Nadia finds out she is gonna fume so badly. ;)
Im going to have to watch the Moscow scene again to take it in properly, but I really like the concept of what Syd did, with the burying her mother thing, only I wish we could have seen her go through it. :wox:
APO--- Lovin it Lovin it Lovin it!!! The concept behind Season 1 has returned with a bang and its so cool! Love the new premises aswell. Shame Weiss isnt on the team though. Also lovin Nadia- great addition. :D
Favourite scenes/Phrases
Vaughn- Last year sucked
Marshall- the eggs with Sark scene, and the his transfer to APO- 'Syd Sloane's here' made me giggle.
Weiss- Hi Im Eric Weiss, 38, single--hahaha
ETA- I just found out what Vaughn said to Syd in Russian :lmao:

Full circle to Season 1 indeed….
A very good start.
The “72 Hours Earlier” had the classic Alias stamp all over it.
I have to admit I really didn’t think we’d get as much information as we did in this episode. Much of why Alias works is the fact that we get information in dribs and drabs and resolving the whole ‘black sheets’ issue in one go really worked. It was quite well worked into the bigger plot as well.
New credits too. Not too sure about those, I always liked the plain simple one. It is a bit more Jazzy I guess.
Also quite liked the fact that they were all out in the field. Hope we get more of that.
Very white offices!
And a fitting end and “feck you” to the Lena Olin problem!
All in all, I’m happy with the start.
Now it just needs to keep it going.
Overnights say 11.3/16 which puts it number 1 for the timeslot. More imporatantly it pretty much held on to all the Lost viewers, so the great big ABC plan is w**king out. :shifty:
Bear in mind it is very late that I’m posting this, so some of it may not make perfect sense.

Yay, good start!
I wasn't expecting what Syd revealed to Vaughn either. I thought she'd just be telling him about her being a "special project" of Jack's. And when nothing was said at the beginning, I wondered if there'd be any follow up to the end of S3. Thankfully my doubts were eradicated. :)

Me too. I was half expecting them to open up the mausoleum and find it empty, oslt. Still, with the news that Lena Olin isn't coming back, I suppose it makes sense just to have her killed off. Shame though. :(
Looking forward to next week.
Persephone - January 9, 2005 08:56 PM (GMT)
I totally wasn't expecting what Syd revealed to Vaughn either. I don't know, when I saw the start date on the first page, I thought the project would be about Syd too Michelle :)
Yay to the ep though. Really enjoyed it
I don't know which was funnier Syd explaining that she wanted to get away from the problems with Vaughn and her Dad, turning the corner and seeing them all there (Dixon's smirk was hilarious) or Marshall's 'erm Syd, Sloane's here'
I preactically cheered when I saw Sloane heading up the op, he's just the best baddie on TV. *groan* will the US Government ever employ people who aren't well, evil
Kinda surprised by the 'death' of Irina, I'm guessing Lena Olin, really didn't want to return. :(
I'm not sure what to make of Nadia yet, she has all the markings of a bad guy
Can't wait for next week

Unfortunately he's just got a new girlfriend so all hopes of getting him to do anything for a while have been completely dashed. And unfortunately I live too far away from him to threaten him with blackmail <_<
kicking it old school - March 6, 2005 01:55 PM (GMT)
Just seen these episodes. I love how it's gone right back to season 1 in the general situation of things - the old SD-6 team (plus Vaughn!). I really hope Weiss joins though, he must be lonely with all his friends gone. And how is he not more suspicious? Everyone has left at pretty much the same time. After this exchange between him and Sydney-
Sydney: I'm a loan officer. I travel...service accounts.
Weiss: Wait a minute...that cover job you had for SD-6!? -
I was expecting some dramatic music, and a slo-mo of his face as he figured it all out, or something like that ;)
Love the new opening credits - very snazzy. I'm not convinced Irina is really dead, or maybe I just can't accept it yet. Also not too sure about Sydney's sister, possibly evil... but then again maybe not! A good start.

Well, finally we've seen the first two eps, and so far I'm very impressed! I love the way we have a lot of the old S1 feel back with Sloane in charge and Syd, Dixon, Marshall and Jack all round the table, with the very welcome addition of Vaughn.
I liked the way a lot of stuff was left unanswered and the story gradually unfolded over the two episodes rather than just dealing with all the loose ends from last season in the first 20 mins.
I was especially pleased that, after the disaster more commonly known as S3, this feels like a new beginning. And I'm loving the new music/titles, although I did like the old one and didn't really see any need to change it.
I'm so pleased that Lauren is actually dead (although, with this show, who really knows....), a little upset that all hope of Irina ever coming back seems to be finished, and also a little upset that it doesn't look like we'll be seeing much of Weiss this season, though I suppose we couldn't really expect to what with Lost.
I also loved the way Syd and Vaughn's relationship was portrayed with all the subtlety it ever was. That's one of the things I've always loved about Alias - nothing is overstated, but everything is underplayed just enough to make us want to see more, and this has also always been the case in scenes with Syd and Jack.
I'm definetly looking forward to seeing the rest of the series, and my faith in JJ has been restored!
Margot
Outta Sight - April 4, 2005 09:06 AM (GMT)
I loved it too
Firstly, not keen on the new titles at all. I know Sydney is the main character but all the others play such an integral part in the show, it seems unfair to have her exclusively on the titles................but that's just a little niggle, LOL.
Love the new black ops division with the gang back together again although sad that Weiss won't be joining them :( When Jack said "there's only one man I'd trust with the job" and we cut to Marshall, I had a big grin on my face and when he arrived at the HQ and saw Sydney and the gang and hugged her, I was outright chuckling to myself :D
Having missed season 2 :( I never saw any of the Sydney/Vaughn romance so I was interested to see how it would play out in this season and I wasn't disappointed. I was glad that they took it quite slow after everything that happened to them but also glad that they got together before the end of the episodes. I'm sure it'll all turn pear shaped at some point though
little pixie - April 4, 2005 11:26 AM (GMT)
What can I say, I agree with both you two girlies !! :D
The problem for me, was that with the two episodes to start, I`m especially desperate to see the next one - if it was all out on DVD, I think I`d stay up for hours watching it !
So many good things happened , too many to mention ( yay, Marshall ! Yay, Vaughn actaully gets a disguise !! Didn`t you just love that fight ? Yikes ! :o )
I didn`t like the new titles, either ; I assume the titles were done with the expectation that Elektra would be a huge hit :whistling: and that newbies would tune in to see the ` Jennifer Garner Show ` - it`ll be interesting to see if the titles are changed again after ` Monster-in-Law` this Summer ;)

Loved both eps. The first one, especially, was very exciting but the second wasn't far behind.
I like the way they've got the old gang back together, even if it is incredibly contrived. Best bits were Marshall's arrival ("Am I dead?") and his referring to Dixon's third season persona as "Robot Dixon"
The scenes on the train were brilliant, as were those in Shanghai, and the robbery in London was very exciting - although the makers' lack of research was laughable (what the hell were those police cars??? ) and the guards' pseudo-Cockney accents were almost as appalling as Dick van Dyke's
The bits where Syd was being tortured by Takeshima (was that his name? I can't remember) and the subsequent fight with the meat hooks and Samurai sword were pure Alias, great stuff.
I was surprised, as everyone else was, about so much information being given so soon, but I suspect there is a lot more to it, and I can't help but think that Sloane's being a git again
The only thing I didn't like was the new titles. The original was great, why change it?
<_<

As has already been said, the first episode was great, a welcome return to the Alias of old. But IMO the second episode was even better, basically because that was where we got to see Marshall ("We had eggs" :lmao: ) and Weiss.
Marshall was hilarious in this episode, it was great to see that he had recovered from his gun shot wound. I loved the scene between him and Weiss ("Are you as depressed as I am?"), and as Steve says above, the bit where his blindfold is removed is just fantastic. Left me giggling for at least 10 minutes :D
I can't imagine it will be long before Weiss is brought into the APO fold, or least until he finds out about it. Although, maybe he will be the Season 4 equivalent of Will and Francie :lmao:

Well I've read both threads and it looks like I'm on my own in being disappointed with Alias last night. It wasn't bad, it wasn't terrible it just felt a little flat for me. :(
I'll give it the benefit of the doubt because it had to set up the new situation ( and the second episode was better than the first ) but I think the new situation is part of the problem for me. The new set up had a very Angel S5 feel to it to me. And thats not a compliment. ;) I know its silly to talk about realism in Alias but the idea that the US Government would employ Sloane let alone give him the freedom to do the job however he saw fit and that Syd and Dixon in particular would w**k with him is unbelievable. Sloane's a fantastic character so I know you have to have him in the show somehow but this felt really contrived to me. I noticed lots of people commenting it had a S1 feel to it well it didn't to me. The beauty of Syd at SD6 in S1/2 was that she hated and loathed Sloane but was forced to w**k with him, this isn't the same. But like I said I'll give it a chance and hopefully it'll grow on me.
The other thing that disappointed me was finding out what was on those document's Syd found at the end of S3. The implication at the end of S3 was that Syd was finding out something about herself and Jack - that Jack had known where she was for the missing two years and/or that she had been part of a programme/experiment since childhood like evil Francie or oslt - this thing about Jack killing Irina was just rubbish. Maybe they had to write Irina out but this was very unsatisfactory. :(
Ok I'm fed up being negative because believe it or not there were things I enjoyed about last night's Alias.
I've not always been his biggest fan but thank god for Marshall who was without doubt the highlight for me. I loved his conversation with Weiss where he admitted having eggs with Sark because he was one of the only familar faces left. LOL @ his introduction to the team and @ his robot Dixon comment and I loved him worrying if the tranquillizer lip stick was too red.
I did love the others all there waiting for Syd and Sloane's entrance and the look on Syd's face. I like the new titles ( even if they are a bit too JG-centric ) , I don't like the new office they're too white ( should a black opps base be that white ;) ) its a shame Syd's had to change her codename ( she'll always be Mountaineer to me ) and I felt sorry for Weiss being the only one left out.
Oh and Its got nothing to do with the show but when I watch all the love/romantic scenes between Syd and Vaughn I can't help but think about how awkward that must be for them considering whats gone on between them in real life.

Hallelujah! I am saved! Don't ask me how but somehow I'd discovered that Alias was repeated today at 7pm! I had no idea until it popped up on the programme reminder at 7!! All I can think is that I must have discovered it when I was, ahem, slightly the worse for wear and put it in the pp and then forgotten about it
Anyway, it's perfect, it doesn't clash with anything else (I can forgo one episode of Emmerdale, LOL) and I can still watch 24 on a Sunday :D Plus, the earlier time means I take in much more than I do in the later episodes.
Only downsides are that I'll have to wait til Tuesday to post my thoughts and the possible cuts but, hey, you don't miss what you didn't know anyway ;)

Speaking of TWOP, does anyone know if Regina and Erin are the same person? I am mucho confused! The different name made me think, at first, that someone new was recapping Alias (and I was a bit upset as I've always loved Regina's recaps) but then she keeps mentioning stuff about how she's been recapping Alias in the past and I got all confused....
