Title: Desperate Housewives?
LoobiLou - January 5, 2005 12:38 PM (GMT)
Is it any good? I’ve heard Teri Hatcher's in it ( ) Though from the adverts, it looks like another SATC :x
Psycho Jack - January 5, 2005 12:42 PM (GMT)
Good reviews.
Good ratings.
Loads of MILFs.
I don't know about you Rob, but I'm sold and I only typed the first two 'good' points for our lady posters. :D :whistling:
LoobiLou - January 5, 2005 12:43 PM (GMT)
Indeed Mr. Moe :shifty:
Can't wait! It's on tonight, right? :D

10 pm
Which leads me to guess that when ER comes back, it will slot back into an earlier slot of 9 pm as its lead in. <_<

Would you rather have DHW’s on at 9 and cut?
Laura - January 5, 2005 12:48 PM (GMT)
ER is taking Without A Trace's slot on Monday at 10pm.
Psycho Jack - January 5, 2005 12:49 PM (GMT)
Ah, thank you Laura. :)
ER on a Monday . . . God! That is going to be very weird.
Persephone - January 5, 2005 02:39 PM (GMT)
MILF's ?
I'm sure it's a guy thing
Will this be any good, cos it looks crap from the trailer
Terri Hatcher, geez what happened, she looks so old :o
Laura - January 5, 2005 02:40 PM (GMT)
MILF = mother I'd like to f**k iirc from American Pie :ermm:
I'm not sure if I'll watch this 'cos I've got no way of keeping up with it once I go back to uni if I enjoy it.
Persephone - January 5, 2005 02:46 PM (GMT)
I SO didn't want to know that, thanks anyway Laura
I knew it was a guy thing. They have abbreviations for everything
Laura - January 5, 2005 03:00 PM (GMT)
If I have to know what it stands for I'm gonna make sure others do too :p

From another board I post on - apologies in advance for sexism :)

There won't be any melons as it's on American mainstream TV so I wouldn't bother - the birds do look nice though
|
I think its HBO,
so should be drinking, swearing, smoking, tits and fanny...
|
That's their corporate slogan I believe
I think I'll give "Desperate to make the latest chick flick fluff look like Serious Drama" a miss then.

judging by the spelling of alright would the other board happen to be dedicated to NUFC?
:shifty:
Laura - January 5, 2005 04:56 PM (GMT)
And 'bords'? Is that a Newcastle way of saying 'birds' or just really bad spelling
NJS - January 5, 2005 05:02 PM (GMT)
Could be :ph43r: :whistling: :p
The next post reckoned that any male who wasn't interested in a program with Teri Hatcher in underwear was likely to be slightly gay and used a slightly dergoatory phrase which was amazingly new to me :D

I'd agree with that  :shifty:
Not long to go :D
Michelle - January 5, 2005 05:45 PM (GMT)
I dunno whether to give it a try or not. I don't really have time to start watching yet another programme, but if it's supposed to be really good, I don't want to miss out.
Crichton Kicks - January 5, 2005 06:17 PM (GMT)
For what it's worth Vic loves it. So the ladies may enjoy it, but from what little I've seen, Rob, Mo, you may be disappointed pretty quickly :)
LoobiLou - January 5, 2005 10:14 PM (GMT)
I'm bored already  It was going ok until they sat down and started talking :ermm:

Bloody fantastic
Michelle - January 6, 2005 12:55 AM (GMT)
I thought it was quite interesting, but I missed the first 15 minutes of it, cos I was too wrapped up in FFX. But I see it is repeated Tuesday nights, so I might try and fill in the gaps then.
ken1701e - January 6, 2005 07:52 AM (GMT)
watched the first two episodes of this last night and to be honest wasnt sure what to make of it. Is it supposed to be funny because if it is it isnt!!! Is it supposed to be sexy? Because if it is it isnt!!!
It felt like it was trying to be surreal like TWIN PEAKS but it failed in that respect as well.
Dont know wether I will watch any more - depends if M decides too.
Oh and yes I agree Terri Hatcher looks so old!!!!
NJS - January 6, 2005 05:16 PM (GMT)
I watched up to the first ad break before realising it wasn't going to be weird or sexy enough to make me a viewer.
The remarks on TH were a bit harsh considering her first few scenes were going to a funeral, being walked out on by her husband, and telling her friends about his affair. By the time she went in pursuit of the new neighbour she was definitely "alive" again.
This defence of her could also be because I looked her age up and she's only 9 months younger than me :D

Just looked up your age on your profile, Neil, and by my extremely ropey maths, I reckon that makes Teri Hatcher 3 months older than me! So I agree with you whole heartedly, I thought she looked great!
(Can't really say the same for meself though!)
I actually quite enjoyed the show. I hadn't really heard much about it, bar a bit of the usual press hype. I was expecting no wierdness at all, so what we got was interesting, and it was funny enough to make me smile, and I guess we all need that right now!
I have episode 2 waiting at home for me, so may watch this evening!
Take care,
Andrew (HM) :upside:
Psycho Jack - January 7, 2005 01:25 AM (GMT)
Contrary to what James said, I thought it was very good.
All the main characters introduced with no messing around as well as a lot of very interesting supporting ones. Probably not as sharp a script as I would’ve liked, but everything I see these days gets compared to either The Sopranos or West Wing (S1-4) so they’ve got to be bloody good to top that.
I liked the direction, quite loose. The VO allows a certain degree of flexibility and that works well.
I also like the fact that we didn’t get full-blown sex (a la SATC). It leaves a degree to the imagination and wasn’t really needed. This is going to much more character driven me thinks.
Re the matter of a certain Ms Hatcher – she looked bloody fine to me. In fact more than fine. Wouldn’t kick her out of bed on a cold morning.
Just going back to the comparison that Rob made with SATC, if anything I can see the possibility of clearer parallels to American Beauty-esque themes being drawn out in the long run. Having said that, there is a hellva lot of room for plot developments so who knows where it will end up.
All in all a solid pilot as I’ve even seen. I tell you what, I’ll be tuning in again next week. Or recording.
Also interestingly, according to the overnights, it got around a quarter of the share of the audience for the timeslot, with around 5 million viewers.
ken1701e - January 8, 2005 11:26 AM (GMT)
like I said before it really depends on what M wants to watch that night but I cannot imagine there will be anything else on.
On the subject of Ms Hatcher. I have never been her biggest fan. A friend of mine always called her his ideal woman and never missed the SUPERMAN tv show that she was in.

Thought her appearance in the BOND movie was pretty pointless and apparently her and Pierce Brosnan didnt get on!!!

Thats another point in her favour for me then - always thought he was too smarmy.
Persephone - January 8, 2005 01:01 PM (GMT)
Actually the comment I made about Ms Hatcher was from the trailer. Way too much makeup, made her look very old.
She looked fine in the programe :)
Jae - January 8, 2005 03:59 PM (GMT)
She did look a bit rough. She just needs a bit of weight on her.
melian - January 20, 2005 11:07 AM (GMT)
Who's still watching this?
It's pretty much a 'must see' show with the guys from w**k, actually it's about the only show I watch that anyone else does :lmao:
Michelle - January 20, 2005 11:13 AM (GMT)
I'm still watching and liking it. What's even more amazing is that both my sister and my parents are also watching it. :)
I suppose it's not quite as amazing that my sister follows it, as she did use to watch Buffy, but not many other US shows.
LoobiLou - January 20, 2005 11:25 AM (GMT)
I'm really enjoying it :) I missed the first episode but have gotten caught up and know what's going on now :)
Psycho Jack - January 20, 2005 11:32 AM (GMT)
I'm still watching and liking too.
It is very easy on the eye (and I don’t just mean the ladies) imo and a lot of potential in terms of storylines and characters.
ken1701e - January 20, 2005 06:59 PM (GMT)
watched the first three. Its alright I guess especially as there is nothing else on, but its hard to believe this is the TOP thing in the US at the moment.

Persephone - January 20, 2005 09:30 PM (GMT)
I watched the first 2 and sky + the third. Switched off half way through the playback, not really my thing :)
willowroolz - January 20, 2005 10:01 PM (GMT)
Teri Hatcher won a Golden Globe for it, didn't she?

Yeah, and the show won best comedy drama ?
willowroolz - January 20, 2005 10:10 PM (GMT)
Well, it's nice to see she's finally getting rewarded for wearing that Ultrawoman costume in Lois & Clark :ph43r:
