| DR WHO GAME MATERIALISING? Fancy a videogame appointment with the good Doctor? Altogether now: na na na na, na na na na, ooo WEEEE ooo... 15:54 There's already been nine incarnations of Dr Who, and if internet rumours are to be believed there's about to be another - and this one's digital. According to an Australian film newsletter sent out earlier this week an Oz-based development team is planning a videogame version of the BBC's timeless sci-fi series. "IR Gurus Interactive Australia will develop a game of the world's longest running science fiction television series Dr. Who," says the newsletter. The comment comes in an article about funding for digital media projects offered by the Film Victoria organisation. The project is said to be at "Game Prototype Development Stage", but other than that no information is offered at all. Which Doctor will it feature? Will it have them all? Just how big is the inside of the Tardis when it's rendered in 3D? At the moment all we can do is dream... The snappily-named dev team has had a string of successful games in its home country, including a couple of licensed Australian rules football games (basically FIFA for Ozzies). Currently they're also w**king on a licensed Gaelic Football game that's expected to launch on PS2 in Ireland next March. Turns out Victoria's quite a hotbed for games development: Xbox Unreal II developer Tantalus, The Polar Express developers Blue Tongue Entertainment and apparently over half of Australia's 700 videogame industry workforce are all based in the area. How's that, Aussie games industry stat fans? Anyway, we'll bring you more details on IR Gurus' rumoured Dr Who game as soon as we can. Graeme Boyd |
