Not as good as the last episode, but still some interesting stuff with more sightings of the Shadow ships. They're getting closer! :o

I thought this started off pretty slowly as I couldn't remember how sifgnificant parts of it were. However when the ship got stranded and the Shadow ships appeared I thought the sense of forboding and tension were very well done making it a pretty good episode on the whole.

I've always rather liked this one. It's a decent enough story when it gets going, but it also advances the Shadow storyline, and gives a bit more flesh to Keffer.

Another three-pronged episode this one;
The bulk of the story centring on Maynard and the Cortez. Maynard played by ex-Twin Peaks alumni Russ Tamblyn, father of Joan of Arcadia's Amber Tamblyn (Joan). The Cortez looked appropriately impressive.
The question arises early on that there maybe something living in hyperspace, then lo and behold, a Shadow vessell pops up, which sounded pretty much like Maynard's earlier description of what he saw out on the rim as well. Keffer gets something to do and ends up taking command of Zeta Squad, not bad for his first few weeks aboard !! It also sets about Keffer's quest to prove that something is indeed living in hyperspace.
Beyond the Cortez story there's also a few scenes highlighting Sheridan's doubts about his new command, as well as some doubts arising about Delenn's standing amongst her own people aboard the station.
The most entertaining thread to this episode though had to be Franklin and his 'Food plans'.
The differing reactions of the crew were not unexpected, but best of all was Sheridan's brush off;

That's right, we're a team, doctor and patient w**king together.

Well, seeing as we're partners, you do the diet part.....
:lol:
The later scene in Earhearts, with the 'musical plates of food' was amusing as well.
The best scene of the episode IMO, was the scene in Garibaldi's quarters, when Stephen reluctantly gives in and let's Garibaldi make his dish;

Woah, I didn't authorise dessert.

Well, that's too bad then, guess you won't be having any...

Someone please fix the filter, as I'm not sure if this is a review of B5 or 'Confessions of a MedLab Tech' :)

The above was obviously taken from one of the deleted scenes considered too risque for TV broadcast. :lol:

I was beginning to wonder who Keffer was and when he was going to be given something to do.
Not much to say really. More on the Shadows and the diet subplot was a good example of B5's humour
Good to see Russ Tamblyn (star of the best film musical ever IMO) back.

Strange this one. On one hand seeming to be not as good as the three that have gone before while on the other hand providing more background information on the new commander, 'fleshing' out the character of Keffer and also forwarding on the story of the shadow ships.
Yes, very strange.

Now this was one that I wasn't expecting to enjoy for two reasons: 1) I remember finding Russ Tamblyn immensely annoying on my previous viewings, and 2) the bit of music that plays when the Cortez does a flyby is very irritating, mainly because it's repeated so many times.
So I was pleasantly surprised to find that I really enjoyed it. Maybe it's the switch to widescreen on the dvds, but the Cortez suddenly looked very impressive. I was a bit annoyed though, because of that switch, to find that the Starfury that goes into shadow beneath it is cut out of the next shot almost entirely (you just about see one of its engines at the bottom of the screen as it flies underneath the Cortez). A really impressive moment kind of loses its impact there.
The scenes in hyperspace are very good too, and the appearance of the Shadow vessel, after hearing all the tales of something living out there, are very unsettling. I'm not sure that I like Keffer as a character, probably because I always find myself wondering how someone as lowly as him gets to socialise so readily with the command crew :snooty: :lol:
The stuff about the diet is quite funny, and I didn't find Tamblyn annoying this time around, so this ep's gone up in my opinion quite a bit :)

Forgot to mention the conversation Sheridan has with Delenn when he's doubting his position:
"Then I will tell you a great secret, Captain. Perhaps the greatest of all time. The molecules of your body are the same molecules that make up this station, and the nebula outside, that burn inside the stars themselves. We are starstuff, we are the universe, made manifest, trying to figure itself out. As we have both learned, sometimes the universe requires a change of perspective."
The "we are starstuff" line is one that has stuck in my mind all these years since I first saw it. Wonderful :thumbsup:
