Title: Shatner Update

William Shatner (Captain Kirk) continues to maintain a high public profile, promoting both his television show Boston Legal which airs on Sunday nights and his album produced by Ben Folds, Has Been. But Star Trek fans are most eager to hear about whether he will make an appearance on Enterprise...a matter that has apparently still not been decided by Paramount and Shatner himself.

VRRRM has a transcript of Shatner's appearance on The Late Late Show from December 2nd with guest host Michael Ian Black. The actor joked about his looks, feeling like a twerp next to tall men and the fact that the host could have been his illegitimate son.
Shatner added that he was never going up into space no matter what had been reported in the news. He also said that he had been afraid of being caught by the cameras saying "Oh, sh--, agh, I missed it!" if he failed to win the Emmy Award he received earlier in the year.

VRRRM has also provided a link to streaming video of Shatner's performance of "Common People" on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno from October 22nd at singer Joe Jackson's web site. VRRRM added that users of Nullsoft's WinAmp software can listen to the rest of Has Been at the WinAmp site.

And The IESB has posted a video interview with Shatner from the VH-1 Big in 04 awards show, where the actor was a presenter. Shatner said that because of hesitation on the part of Paramount Television, he was unlikely to make an appearance on Enterprise this season, but said Kirk's return was possible for next season if the show was renewed.
A Paramount rep meanwhile told the site that there was hope of having Shatner appear as Kirk in a fourth season-ending cliffhanger.

Not sure whether having a seasonal cliffhanger's a wise idea though :(

First: Shatner will appear during Season 4...

Now: Shatner will be the cliffhanger to Season 4...

I pity the poor deluded fans who actually think he'll turn up!

Then again I feel the same way about those who know Enterprise will do 7 seasons :)

I doubt even Berman or Braga buy into that any more.

I think you are misjudging the stupidity of those two. I think they believe that Enterprise is the greatest thing since Voyager ended. And, well if voyager managed the full 7, then why not Enterprise?

This world is a strange and confusing place

Anything can happen, and probably will. I'm taking bets, that Enterprise will go the full 7, but that at least 2 other (good) cult shows will be axed along the way. (Unfortunately I can see the 4400 being one of them, the novelty may wear off quickly with that one).

A few years ago I'd have agreed with you - however the only reason we ever got a Season 4 was certain fan projects telling Paramount that the ratings would improve significantly for Season 4.

As far as I'm aware, the ratings for 'Storm Front' were 20% below those of 'Zero Hour' and haven't gotten any higher, despite various gimmicks (Soong, Vulcan civil war) trying to bolster them.

Unless something huge happens, then I'm not expecting any more next season...

I'm envisioning a full on invasion from the future.

I know the temporal cold war is "over", but we all know what Braga is like. He loves his time travel stories too much to let it lie.

I have to agree with Phillip on this one. The only reason it got season 4 was to provide enough episodes for syndication. That and the support that Gary Hart gave the show at the studio.

Now Hart's gone, and the ratings haven't improved. At the same time, they're getting the required number of episodes for syndication.

I don't particularly like to see any half decent genre show getting the axe, but part of me realises that that's the only way that we'll ever get rid of the gruesome twosome.

The only way to save the show now is to open up the Romulan war, which they won't do because they want it for the next movie.
