Just as things seem to be calming down for Talyn's crew the Ancients come calling, and they don't bring good news: the Farscape 1 module was seen traversing a wormhole, at a time when John knew it was safely aboard Moya.

Love these episodes, complete change of pace and mid season too.

First of all its lovely to see John and Aeryn finally spending some time together even though it doesn't last long. Aeryn is learning English and later she and John discuss the possibilty of both going to Earth, she is finally ready to commit to him.

Their time together is cut short by the appearance of a wormhole, with Earth as its target but we learn this is only a beacon sent by the ancient, Jack who has summoned him to interrgate him on his use of wormhole knowledge.

Poor John now he is responsible for the wormhole knowledge purloined by Furlow his life doesn't get any better. So we have the return of Furlow, they got to the planet very quickly, did Jack help with that?

Also we have the Charrids, love to see Rygels inbedded hatred for them and his delight in taking vengeance against them later in the episode.

Love the idea that Crais goes blind because of his link to Talyn. Nice pairing with him and Stark, the half blind leading the blind. Great fighting scenes however they did get in a little easily considering the numbers of Charrids. That aside I love the energy of this episode and yet again their task becomes more and more complicated.

It is too late to do a deal with the wonderfully acted Furlow as the scarrans have the technology not only do they have to destroy the module replica and data but also the dreadnaught too, and they only brought a few guns. Ew Furlow kiss, I think she would actually love to ride off into the sunset with John.

So we have Rygels 'interrogation' of the Charrid, we get to see a ruthless and brave Rygel in this episode. The exchange between Rygel and Aeryn in the gun turret is fabulous. Rygel shows his Dominar worth showing that he is as brave as the suicide missoin Hynerians, conjures great images. These are some of my favourite moments for his character.

So John is finally given a chance to get rid of Harvey once and for all and what a cliff hanger we are left with. The fight between John and Harvey at the fairground, great imagery again. A striking shot of them dangling from the rollercoaster and Harveys desparation to survive. The shudder inducing shot of John at the end once more turning into Scorpius as he did before he previously kiled Aeryn and her standing by with a gun ready to kill him. :o

We also have Rygel wounded in the turret surrounded by Charrids :o

When I first saw this episode I had to check we weren't coming up to the end of the season as it felt like the build up to the finale. I can't say enough good things about this, 10/10 for me.

:)

John: "Go to hell, Scorpy. For everything there is a season, a time to keep and a time to cast away."

Wow. What a way to start a two parter. With possibly the most exciting opening twenty minutes of any episode. Big guns, big explosions, new bad guys, this is classy stuff.

This two-parter is a big payoff for a lot of set ups going as far back as mid first season. It also links together a couple of seemingly disparate stories in a very clever way. I, for one, hadn’t expected to see Furlow again quite so soon (a very handy line of dialogue explaining that she was lying about the frequency of the solar flare activity sweeps that one under the rug), and the fact that she has used John’s data to build her own Farscape module and start test flights through wormholes is used nicely to tie in with the return of the Ancients, bemused by what they believe to be John’s abuse of the knowledge they gave him.

John: "Yeah, when you ripped off all my data."
Furlow: "You know, you're gonna have to let that go, Johnny."

It’s nice to see John and Aeryn lying to cheek to cheek. It turns out that, when they left the wormhole information in John’s head, the Ancients also left a link that allows them to call him when they want him, which in turn leads them all back to Furlow.

This is all really well done, and makes sense in a lot of ways. It is also a good time to introduce the new bad guys, the Charrids, who look bizarrely like the Predator when they’re fully armoured up. There are so many of them that you kind of have to take John and Aeryn’s ability to fight through them all without so much as a scratch with a pinch of salt. For such fearsome warriors, the Charrids appear to be pretty bad shots. But then isn’t that always the case with bad guys?

There’s quite a nice little subplot with Rygel and the Charrids, in that the Hynerians were invaded by them a thousand cycles previously, and were only driven off by wave after wave of Hynerian suicide attacks. It leads us to see Rygel’s most ruthless side, the extent of which we have only seen a couple of times previously. He does however, learn that a Scarran dreadnaught is on the way, tying in with Crais’s declaration that Peacekeeper intelligence reports have unsubstantiated claims of an alliance between the Charrids and the Scarrans.

Harvey: "If your mind really isn't big enough for the both of us, either I'll survive, or neither of us will."
John: "Harvey, kiss my medulla oblongata."

I don’t really want to say much more until I’ve watched part 2. Suffice to say that Harvey’s presence further complicates matters, that Rygel’s a very good shot for a little guy, that Claudia and Ben’s acting is amazing once again, that Magda Szubanski is a terrific guest star once again, that Talyn’s flyby over the base is gobsmacking, and the resulting injuries to both the Leviathan and Crais are wholly believable.

Oh, and that the look on John’s face after Furlow kisses him is just priceless.

The only criticism I can level at this episode - and it's barely a criticism - is that they try to fit so much into this 43 minutes that it is very hectic. But then, that's Farscape at its best.

Brilliant.

You beat me to it again, Alex

Edge of the seat stuff this episode and you are absolutely right it ties in previous plots effortlessly.

Its is really funny to see the remaining Charrid who assumes he is so valuable put down by everyone. Again we see flashes of comedy in a desparate situation which is so typical of Farscape.

Rygel/Stark and his Delvian calming chant, Stark/ Crais let me be your guide, Furlow, Rygel great comic moments totally inappropriate but nonetheless priceless

And of course John and Harvey on the bumper cars.

It's so rare, infact virtually non-existent, that you see big action sequences like the ones in these episodes outdoors on a tv show.

The Dolby Digital in this episode is faultless, too.

Yes true excellent sound.

They had fun with the explosives/pyrotechnics didn't they I remember reading. I like that about Farscape that we do get some real outdoor environments and not just studio sets.

They do look so cool, John, Aeryn, Crais when they first land on the planet and commence fighting. Loving the look of the Charrids armour by the way.

Oh and I forgot bet you loved that opening shot

The Carny music in the bumper car scene is pretty scary :fear:

You guys have already mentioned how this episode brings together plot threads from many different episodes and seasons so I won't :shifty:

I was wondering, do you think Stark is being so weird with Aeryn because John called her 'His Zhaan" a couple of epiosdes ago or is it just him being his usual wacky self?

Charrid : You fear me!
John: No. You just smell.

Nice john :lmao:

Poor John. The look on his face after Furlow kisses him. :toomuchtv:

It doesn't matter how many times I see this episode, I'm always shocked at the end scene when Aeryn revives John but finds only Harvey is still home :fear:
Her eyes, as she holds the gun to her beloveds head, show only sadness and a steely determination........

I hate that 'To be continued......' message

Not sure why he starts obsessing over Aeryn, he is certainly very creepy.

Its definitely a reaction after Zhaans death but I think you are right with it being his usual wacky self

If there's one thing Farscape does exceptionally well, it's multi-episode stories. This one is no exception, and in fact makes for one of the better ones still. A welcome return for a few familiar characters and the resumption of the 'wormhole' arc.

Interesting developments as far as the political situation goes with the Charrids allying themselves with the Scarrans.

Not much more to add to this one. Great cliffhanger to the episode though.

The wound was a mere inconvenience. The hunger, well, that was life-threatening
