When an attack by some of the new humanoid Cylons reveals their existence, a tribunal is convened to determine if any more of them are hiding among the crew of the Galactica.

For those who haven't seen it so far I won't go into too much detail, other than to say; This is without doubt the best hour of television I've seen so far this season.

Top marks. This show's hitting it's stride with each passing week.

I have to agree Angel. BG gets better week on week. It is the one show on right now that I can't seem to miss. (I switched my shifts at the W. thing so that I would never even have to record it :D )

God, you all think I'm really sad now don't you? :toomuchtv:

Re-organising w**k for it seems the least someone could do ;)

Actually, I thought this episode took its foot off the gas a little. Not that it was a bad ep, just not as good as the previous 5. Looked like it was laying the groundwork for some future eps (which is no bad thing). Struck me as a rip-off/reworking of the TNG episode "The Drumhead". The whole tribunal bit played out exactly the same. i think that ep was written by Ron Moore as well.

The Caprica story line seems to be kicking in a bit more though. Can't help feeling sorry for Helo for the way he's being manipulated by the cylons (Hmm, poor bastard, being sized up for seduction by a boomerbot, how horrible).

Can't argue with the parallels Bakhesh, but I've always had a soft spot for The Drumhead.

I thought the tone of this particular episode was absolutely fantastic, and once again goes some way to highlighting the gaping flaws in Enterprise's mix at the moment.

Not got anything against the Drumhead. One of my favourite TNGs I think. I was just surprised that Ronny Moore was recycling it. I spotted the parallels quite early on, and it kinda removed any dramatic tension, as I knew where it was going.

I think as far as recycling goes, there's a right and wrong way of doing it. Star Trek at the moment is going about things pretty much the wrong way, with highly derivative and uninspiring plots week after week. here we have an instance of Moore recreating one of his better scripts, and IMO pulling it off equally well.

The opening scenes, particularly in light of current events were quite effective. You also had the evolving nature of the Boomer/Chief dynamic where he's now raising questions regarding Sharon in his own mind.

The tribunal itself was a decent plot vehicle, in that it's acted as a crucible of sorts to reveal or hint at certain truths for certain characters. Whilst it's similar to TNG's The Drumhead, for me it went that little bit further, so as to make it a valuable episode of Galactica in it's own right :)

I tend to agree, James. The Drumhead is one of my favourite Next Gen episodes, and I saw a lot of it in Litmus. When I saw the way it was going I started to feel a little disappointed, because it felt like it was covering old ground a little too closely, but as the episode went on, and more of the character dynamics were drawn in to it, I felt it got better and better and it ended really well. :)

Yet another terrific episode.

I agree... the show is getting better episode by episode. I admit to being dense... the parallels with 'The Drumhead' past me by at the time, but thinking about it, yes, I see it. (Like everyone else, one of my fave TNG episodes.)

The show surprises and does something to cause me to catch my breath every week. And as James says, it shows up the flaws in Enterprise, sadly. I enjoy ENT immensely. (Not seen any S4 yet though). But BSG has hit the ground running, and I care more for these characters after 6 episodes and one miniseries than I do for the Enterprise crew after 76 episodes. I'm sitting there watching, and, although I never think to hard about these things, I have no idea where things are going, esp. the Helo/Boomer/Caprica arc. I love the way it deals with pure sci fi issues along with more basic human issues such as the Pres's cancer.

Gripping stuff, and so, so enjoyable.

Take care,

Andrew (HM) :upside:

Never seen nor heard of The Drumhead, not a very big TNG or any-Trek fan :)

Back to Ep6 Litmus, yet another great ep, maybe not above, but definitely on par with previous instalments :) The tribunal was fun to watch, seeing the “kids” buckle under pressure yet keeping a sense of nobility was a nice way to go, Commander Adama's use of authority to close it down, knowing that it could backfire was a very tense scene, though he probably knew what the outcome would be ;)

The Caprica thing’s now got me completely sided on pushing Helo to test the human limits (or maybe even just that of the BS crew). Either way, he’s alone in an abandoned city with Boomer, I can think of worse things

A horrifying episode from a philosophical point-of-view. Where the military can hide anything they want from the citizery for the sake of convenience. I kept hoping for some revelation by the Commander that would justify the stonewalling. In the end, it was simply that he couldn't lose a top crew member so he halted an investigation that might have illuminated the enemy's maneuverings within his fleet. Hardly admirable.

Needless to say, I sided with the Sargeant/Investigator (a good performance by the unknown-to-me actress) and the Tribunal.

From the standpoint of storymaking, it was necessary to put off the investigation since a proper investigation would reveal (1) the romantic relationship and (2) a mystery surrounding Boomer too soon for the writers' tastes.

The philosophical underpinnings to this series are extremely wobbly. One advantage is that people of various standards can find something in it they agree with.
