Title: 3.12 Meltdown

Aeryn's rejection of a neural implant doesn't stop Talyn from selecting an alternate candidate, when a siren song lures him too close to a star.

OK then this is going to be brief.

Not much plot. Aquila is not a very well done villain at all.

Stark is great fun. Ben ....

Right then. Talyn is drawn towards the solar pulses of a siren star almost causing him to crash into the burning sun. As Crais tries to take control Tayln swerves at the last minute and starts to orbit the star.

A strange mist begins to leak from Tayln causing the occupants to behave in odd ways, their usual behaviour is heightened by the mist...

Aeryn and John really can't resist one another and these are the best scenes, very funny to see a seductive Aeryn for a change, not much change for John.

Bad mist... naughty mist.

Rygel can't stop eating which you actually sympathise with after a while.

Crais is even tetchier than usual and becomes even more aggressive irrational and panicky and Stark helps a alien ghost that Aquila is keeping from crossing over to death. No one else can see her and just assume that he has now completely lost the plot.

The scenes where Stark becomes Tayln's pilot are quite good but overall it is a really inbetween episode that just doesn't get it right. There are a couple of funny scenes but not enough to save it.

:(

 I thought I'd read David Kempers excuse for this one.

He said he wanted a Talyn based ep and also wanted to further the John/Aeryn romance and 'there is method to our madness'. Hmmm not just filling time then.

Where does this rank in a Farscape worst list, pretty near the top for me.

You won't see me slating episodes very often but this one is Season 3s dud by far.

laughitupfuzzball - November 24, 2004 10:08 PM (GMT)
:o Not watched it yet, whatever could be putting you off

willowroolz - November 25, 2004 08:59 AM (GMT)
Erm....

Well, I won't be watching it tonight, that's for sure.

laughitupfuzzball - November 25, 2004 06:53 PM (GMT)
 Hi from Jurdy

:starwars:

willowroolz - November 26, 2004 04:40 PM (GMT)
Hello Jurdy :D :hibye:

willowroolz - November 26, 2004 09:29 PM (GMT)
I can't believe you made me sit through this again, Alex

I can't even be bothered to write anything in depth about it. It's going to be easier to list the things I liked, cos it won't take long, and they're all just little character moments.

So...

The look on Crais's face when Rygel threatens to vomit on him

The look on Aeryn's face when Crais shouts at her "I am your captain!"

The opening, when Crais stops and starts talking to the camera

The Mu-Quillus make-up

The way Crichton convinces Stark to give him control of Talyn's weaponry.

And that's about it.

I think my main problem with this episode is that the John and Aeryn stuff feels, for the only time that I can remember, forced. The bit of music that plays every time they get frisky doesn't help. In some ways these scenes reminded me of Buffy's Where The Wild Things Are, just cringe-inducing and unnatural. Usually the romance flows easily out of the characters, but here it's just tacky and unconvincing.

The episode does nothing to advance the story or the characters. Susan Lyons (Sierjna) is desperately dull, which means that I really couldn't have cared less what happened to her.

It's a bad episode, season 3's worst by a country mile.

But every season's entitled to a handful of lesser episodes. This season's remarkable in that most of the stories are of such high quality, especially from here on in.

Let's move on. Very quickly.

laughitupfuzzball - November 26, 2004 09:44 PM (GMT)
The John and Aeryn stuff is more like comedy I agree does feel forced. Ben looks gorgeous though so its ok by me  Yes the music is awful.

Never mention that Buffy episode again, I had managed to wipe it from my memory, it doesn't exist

I should have mentioned the opening too, that was the best part of the episode.

Now aren't you glad you watched it

willowroolz - November 26, 2004 09:47 PM (GMT)
No!

I am glad it's out of the way, though.

Tell you what, when we reach the end and then go back to the beginning and start the rewatch again ( B) ) we'll agree to miss it out next time through, okay?

laughitupfuzzball - November 26, 2004 09:52 PM (GMT)
 Yes. Agreed. I won't be watching it again for a long long time.

Like the way you snuck in start the rewatch again ;) Its cool by me as I missed the first 2 seasons of this one.

willowroolz - November 26, 2004 09:53 PM (GMT)
I figure it's just a self-perpetuating phenomenon.

Night :hibye:

laughitupfuzzball - November 26, 2004 09:55 PM (GMT)
:hibye: night then.

Persephone - January 10, 2005 11:35 PM (GMT)
Oh my Christ, torturous.

Please don't ever make me watch that again

Stark - Stark raving mad, and for this once, terrible forced in his madness (the acting, not the character)

John/Aeryn - amusing, loved the ass grabbing, but agreed, the music awful

Female of the week - and I thought Chianna had the monopoly on breathy speak, truly awful

Monster of the week - at least The Beast looked like he'd be scary (Angel ref)

Worst ep ever

:(

willowroolz - January 11, 2005 08:53 AM (GMT)
Pretty much, although I'd make it second worst after Taking The Stone

laughitupfuzzball - January 11, 2005 09:22 AM (GMT)
I disagree I'd rather watch Taking the Stone

Sorry Lisa

We should have just skipped this one :(

I'm stunned :o  ;)

laughitupfuzzball - January 11, 2005 10:16 AM (GMT)
Ok so there are some bad parts to taking the stone but there are some good moments.

The beginning where Chiana's link to Neri dies and she thinks he is dead :tear:

Rygel plundering the graves

the role reversal between John and Aeryn

the mushroom scene

Chiana - taking the stone

willowroolz - January 11, 2005 10:17 AM (GMT)
Sorry, Alex, you won't convince me on that, I hate that episode. Sorry :(

laughitupfuzzball - January 11, 2005 10:22 AM (GMT)
It could have been much better - agreed but it beats Meltdown

willowroolz - January 11, 2005 10:26 AM (GMT)
They're definitely the worst episodes of their respective seasons

I'm with Alex on this on. Besides the planet looked awesome

melian - January 12, 2005 05:15 PM (GMT)
I agree with everyone so far. Meltdown is pretty dire though I do love the way Crais is becoming more and more like his 'Officer Gordon' character from Won't get fooled again, especially the bit where he's shouting at Aeryn about being her captain and she just laughs at him and runs off!

"Knock it off poptop" What the hell does that mean?

Favourite line John: "Is there some kind of stupid alien quotation book you use?"

Crichton Kicks - February 16, 2005 10:46 PM (GMT)
Luckily I'd been warned about this one

It starts off ok, but I knew the episode was in trouble as soon as the incidental 'porn' music kicked in

The only positive side to this one really is that it's Talyn/Crais centric. Other than that, it's pretty forgettable. If you're lucky

willowroolz - February 17, 2005 08:58 AM (GMT)
Clunk!

 Yes, I think this one may get skipped over when I am rewatching in the future, I still can't believe I watched it again

What were they thinking

Crichton Kicks - February 17, 2005 10:13 PM (GMT)
I think I'd miss this one in any future rewatch as well.

It has to be seen once to see how bad it is, but beyond that

Still, every series is entitled to a few clunkers

laughitupfuzzball - February 20, 2005 09:34 AM (GMT)
 Very true

Farscape hasn't made many mistakes, they never made so many bad episodes or dull ones that I lost interest like some other shows have, it kept me gripped every week, it even made Mondays good
