Babylon 4 reappears at the same place it disappeared four years before, and Sinclair and Garibaldi lead an expedition to evacuate its crew. Meanwhile Delenn is summoned by the Grey council. They inform her that they have selected a new leader - her.

I don't know what to say about this without being incredibly spoilery so I think I'll have to settle for "fecking brillant" :)

It certainly raises plenty of interesting questions.

I'll be viewing this one later tonight

Hmmm, very good indeed. :)

Great to see one of the mysteries (kinda) solved about what happened to one of the other stations. We also find out a bit more about what Delenn is doing on B5 and why they stopped the war - cos of a prophecy (these prophecy things get everywhere ).

Also I had an inkling that Sinclair would be "the one". It was almost like a Matrix bluff - you aren't "the one" at this present time, but you will be. And interesting that Delenn was with him at the end.

So my next question is, does this happen at the end of the season, and he's old because of the time flux, or does he go off somewhere, and then this comes into play in a future season. Obviously, I don't want anyone to tell me the answer. :)

On to the next...

You don't know the half of it ;)

Joe's pretty good at red herrings and pulling the rug out from under people when they think they've got things sussed :P

There's more to that one as well

Interesting indeed. Strategically done so that you couldn't see her as well ;)

There's two answers to that one, neither of which I'm going to tell you :P

For the people who've already seen the show though, perhaps further discussion in the 'original arc' thread.

Cracking episode, this, with again a lot more questions raised.

Great to see the late Tim Choate as Zathras, though who he is or where he cmae from I have no idea. Why does he need to take B4 to stop a great war? What great war? Why doesn't Delenn want to lead the Grey Council? Why did Zathras say that Sinclair wasn't the one and then...As for Sinclair, he gets told he has a destiny so often he must me getting a tad paranoid by now.

On a lighter note, I thought the opening breakfast scene was good. One of the things that sets B5 apart from Trek is it's humour, Garibaldi's jokes, Ivanova's one liners

Terrific

Crichton Kicks - November 28, 2004 12:11 PM (GMT)
Where to start with this one ??

As Tony's just mentioned, an important part of B5 is it's humour. It's kind of traditional at this point it would seem to have humour in the opening scene. It's usually Garibaldi at the heart of it, and once again here we're not disappointed as Sinclair also gets in on the fun at Ivanova's expense. A side of Sinclair that we haven't really got to see too often. WE also get more later on between Garibaldi and Sinclair during the shuttle ride to B4, the whole 'Fasten, zip' conversation. "You wanna talk socks....??"

For an episode that you would think finally throws up some answers to one of the cornerstones of B5, what happened to B4, this one throws up way more questions than it answers.

We discover that Babylon 4 wasn't built in orbit of Epsilon III, so my observation from the last episode kind of goes out of the window, namely that the great machine on Epsilon III would have seen what happened to it. Or does it ??

The episode benefits from having two stories, both of which are quite effective, and neither outweighing the other for importance.

The B4 story is at the heart of the episode; We find out that it's being pulled through time to serve as a base of operations in some great war. Now this, together with Sinclair's flash foward (?), and Lady Morella's earlier vision in Signs & Portents, are all these somehow linked ?? Lady Morella saw B5 being destroyed, Jeff's vision made it pretty clear that the station (B5) was under attack and was about to fall. WE also see Jeff at thee end, meaning he's somehow involved with the theft of B4. Is it them, do they need the station as a base of operations ?? Is it their war ?? Who against ?? Is it Earth at war again ?? Or the Minbari ?? Delenn looked (or sounded) like she was also involved afterall....

Sinclair's flash in particular was fascinating. Who's attacking the station, and what happens to Garibaldi ?? It didn't look good for him :(

We also get the doom and gloom warnings again, "There's a great war coming, a terrible darkness....."

Then there's the whole issue of Zathras, played wonderfully as Tony's said by the late Tim Choate, another strck down by the B5 curse :( Who is he ?? Where does he come from ?? Why the confusion around Sinclair and 'The One' ?? Is he or isn't he ?? And what is 'The One' anyway ??

And you just gotta love his line;

QUOTE
You take, Zathras die. You leave, Zathras die. Either way, it is bad for Zathras.....

And once again we discover that Sinclair has a destiny. Arrgghh !! Yes, but what ?? Is it this ?? To steal B4 ??

Beyond that we have Garibaldi's flashback featuring Lise Hampton. We discover that Michael followed Jeff to B5 after only meeting him twice on Mars. One of those meetings at least was important, and features in one of the comic books exclusively. Unfortunately it's a little too spoilery to disclose at this point ;)

And finally, that final scene aboard B4, with the aged Sinclair. What was that all about ?? So they have come from the future ?? Some way in the future by the looks of it. And why didn't we get to see Delenn ?? To prevent us seeing what she's become no doubt, that would kind of spoil that one I guess

Speaking of Delenn, that leads us in nicely to the second thread for this episode. She was chosen to lead the Grey Council but refused, instead to remain on B5 ?? Her w**k there is obviously of monumental importance, given that she risks exile in order to remain. Just what is her task aboard the station and why is it so important ?? She says that change is coming to Babylon 5, you get the impression that this is coming sooner rather than later. And what of prophecy ?? We hear it time and time again, but still we don't know what this is. Humans are apparently to be the future. In what way and when ?? And is this a good thing ??

Delenn also takes possession of a triluminary. Why will she need it ??

QUOTE
We're surrounded by signs and portents and I feel a darkness pressing at our backs.

Prophetic words ??

A fascinating episode this one, and you get the distinct impression that we may see the other side to this particular adventure at some point further down the line. Certainly hope so !!

Great episode in many ways - both in terms of questions and answers in connection with the arc and in writing terms a nice balance between comedy and drama.

started watching this this afternoon and fell asleep - god help us but i have only had 4 hours sleep last night.

Try again possibly at the weekend

Well I finally got around to watching this last night (without falling asleep).

Maybe it was because you had all built this episode up but I felt disapointed at the end of it. Dont get me wrong it was a very good, very interesting story, well acted by all present, but I came away from it thinking "ok but nothing startling".

Never mind on to the next one.

Babylon Squared is only half of that particular story Ken. You've still got to wait for the pendulum to swing the other way ;)

Like most B5 episodes, so much better in hindsight

A most enjoyable episode that brings up far too many questions and ideas about what we can expect to see in the future...

So... is Sinclair a religious man? In the intro he spoke of taking early morning mass... or was that just a part of the wonderful prank he and Garibaldi pulled on Ivanova?

Also a comment of Sinclair's puzzles me...
QUOTE
That's one explanation. There's also...

"Also what", me wonders...

And there's something spooky about the comparision between B4 and the Flying Dutchman when Ivanova asks if it ever made it home, and Sinclair replies "No."... especially after having just found out who the one in the spacesuit is...

And you've gotta love Garibaldi's PPG-minigun. :)

I forget at the moment, have you seen the series before ?

I have - I'd seen bits of it over the years since it started, but summer 2 years or so back Phillip encouraged me to watch the whole lot, so over that summer and the latter half of the year I did a marathon of the whole thing.

Though I haven't watched it again since then, so this is something of a revision session for me. :)

Crichton Kicks - February 26, 2005 09:35 PM (GMT)
Ah, I see :)

The thing with B5, is just how much detail you can actually pick up when you see the episodes again.

This is probably my 4th or 5th time through and there's still things I find that I hadn't noticed before.

willowroolz - February 13, 2006 09:04 AM (GMT)
Ain't Zathras great?

Love this episode, absolutely brilliant. And this time through even the "zip or fasten" conversation didn't have me cringing (first time that's happened  ). The temptation to certain other episodes straight after this one was very strong, but no, I shall resist.

I like the design of Babylon 4, subtly different but equally impressive.

What was going on in Sinclair's vision? What was coming through? What change is coming? :fear:

I'm sure I had more to say but my brain is fried from watching so many episodes so close together :weird:

Fantastic
