Title: Season 3 @ Moe's Pace
Psycho Jack - November 15, 2004 05:59 PM (GMT)
Just got my hands on the S3 boxset and I couldn't be happier. :D
This is going to be my first viewing and I'm totally unspoiled . . . looking forward to it mucho. Hopefully will do reports as I go along.
I'm hoping to get two in this evening . . . . yay!
Jae - November 15, 2004 08:50 PM (GMT)
It's alright for some, I'm still waiting for Five to show it  . Looks like I'll be waiting some time!
willowroolz - November 15, 2004 10:40 PM (GMT)
I can still copy the first fifteen episodes for you, Jae ;)
Persephone - November 15, 2004 11:30 PM (GMT)
Yay Moe, may join you. Currently watching season 3 myself, for the first time
Jae, I have the whole 3rd season downloaded, if you're interested :)
Psycho Jack - November 15, 2004 11:55 PM (GMT)
Jae – I hope you get your hands on a copy soon or that C5 starts them up soon. Admittedly I didn’t actually purchase the DVDs per say. I nicked them off a friend! :D
Lisa – Yay! Do so, by all means. Be warned however, I have very erratic viewing habits. <_<

3.01 - The Two
Slightly dubious start. The DVD had a quick fade down and fade up to Sydney’s face as Vaughen told her about the two years which confused me. Eitherway, got better from there. Classic Sydney kicking ass. Loads and loads of questions too.
Director Dixon. Blimey! Things have changed. And great to see Weiss back too.
Bearded Jack . . . funny! Almost reminded me of another bearded Jack. Although I’m led to believe that Kiefer actually grew his for the start of 24 S2, this just looked plain fake! Nice parallel to the pen that Jack used to use in SD6 . . . “we have 90 seconds”. Anyway how the hell did he go from being in solitary confinement to back on duty. That was a bit of cop out. We didn’t get the full story. Syd only asked for his release. Convenient amnesia on the part of the script me thinks, which is odd seeing as it was penned by JJ himself.
Anyway - the general parallel to the pilot was all there too. The rouge agent, the red hair and the slow walk into the office of the boss. Liked it.
I’m getting this feeling this Covenant thing is going to be pushed into the foreground more and more. Even tho the ‘main’ guy didn’t last that long and managed to kill himself. Silly. I’m sure there are others higher than him. The ending was classic Alias thought and did suggest a definite Russian connection.
Don’t quite buy Sloan going straight either.
One other thing to note: neither Bradley Cooper, Merrin Dungey nor Lena Olin were listed in the credits.
7/10
Psycho Jack - November 16, 2004 12:14 AM (GMT)
3.02 - Succession
Back to basics . . . start off with mission, go do it, find something random out. Nice.
A very structured and plot driven episode.
Stark with short hair just looks plain odd. Good sequence in the desert. Loved the filter they used!
The covenant is definitely flavour o’season then. I sincerely hope the revelations about Syd’s past come at good intervals and are handled well because potentially it could all be ruined. There is a great set-up imo, it just needs playing out well.
Loved the sequence in the Sloan’s office and then in the bathroom with Syd. Like father like daughter! I’m just waiting for Sloane to turn btw. Don’t trust him as far as I can throw him . . .
So now we also know that Irina is alive. Also we know that Will is in Witness Protection. Don’t quite know why . . . was he in any immediate danger? Did I miss something out?
As for Mrs Vaughen. Woa! She’s English, how odd. Be interesting to see how that pans out.
7/10

That's a matter of opinion. ;) I thought she was just a posh speaking aussie for much of the season.
Persephone - November 16, 2004 11:35 AM (GMT)
I had a conversation with one of the girls at work about Alias, apparently Mrs vaughan, used to be in Home and Away, so bona fide Aussie
I love Sark's hair shorter
Not so keen on Dixon, what happened, his sense of humour has completely disappeared. Not buying why he's head of the division either, hasn't been that long since he was taken in by SD6 as bogus CIA. Totally agree about Sloane, no way is he straight ;)
What can you say about Syd, she's lost her 2 best friends, her Mom, Vaughan and 2 years of her life, there's nothing you can say :(
Psycho Jack - November 16, 2004 11:47 AM (GMT)
An Aussie, aye?!
Well she did have all of two lines so I guess I just heard a non-US accent and thought English. Guess I'll find out tonight. :)
I think I like the new improved Dixon. Don't forget he was a mess when we saw him last iirc. Looks like he has just immersed himself in work after his wife's death. We’ll see how he get developed over the course of the season.
You’re quite right about Syd tho Lisa. Poor girl. Meeting Vaughen’s wife would’ve been the last thing she needed. Especially in the given circumstance.

ooops, I did say I was downloading it Steve ;)
Do you want eps 16-22?
Persephone - November 16, 2004 11:52 AM (GMT)
Moe, I'm hoping Dixon's character will grow on me. It's so different to how he was before, but point taken, finding out you've not been working for the CIA all those years, and of course the murder of his wife will have an affect, just can't understand how he took over.
btw Moe, bought 24 season 1 last night, haven't watched any yet, probably won't for a few weeks, cos I've promised Steve I'll catch up with Farscape, but I
'll let you know what I think, once I've seen some. ;)

Yep, Melissa George, aka Angel (hehe) from Home & Away, circa mid 90's I think. Back in the days when I used to watch H&A before I had to stop because I joined the world of work and hence couldn't get home in time to watch it.
She is definitely supposed to be English anyway because I think it was mentioned in a later episode.

Good good. Season 1 is by far the best and most addictive. Do leave some time free when you start with it because you will be hooked.
And make sure you report back when you do start.
And I’d just like to reiterate what Michelle asked. How have you stayed away from spoilers? Well done anyway. :)
Persephone - November 16, 2004 01:43 PM (GMT)
Nope, never seen 24, don't even know really what it's about, except it's in real time, and he's a cop called Jack :D
Haven't been spoiled, cos never took any notice of any threads here or on the Beeb about it, so haven't got a clue what happens. I'm guessing from your comments, that the shit hits the fan at some point, so thanks for that :P
I'll start watching it after I've caught up with Alias, and of course a respectable amount of Farscape (okay Steve)
ah, Angel from Home and Away, sounds so dumb on a girl, I think I vaguely remember the character :)

3.03 - Reunion
Sydney and Vaughen back in action and Jack up to his old tricks. Nice bit of suspense as Jack was uploading the worm and as the mission was going tits-up but apart from that bit of non-episode apart from JG looking very nice in her red dress.
I still say Sloane is knee deep in it. And nice to see evil Sark/wimpy Sark too. He is such a weasel. As soon as anything goes wrong, he is out of there. You gota love him though.
Re Lauren . . . mhhh . . . always difficult to get to like a new character when she goes for jugular and attacks the main character from the word go. Doesn’t she know Syd does what Syd wants! Don’t think I quite like her just yet. Her attempt to make amends was civil enough, but she needs to earn my respect. <_<
I’m still liking Dixon in charge too. It suits him. And Weiss . . . oh Weiss, I would love for a spark of sorts to appear between him and Syd. But it just is not going to happen. Mind you having said that, there is nothing between Syd and Vaughen anymore either.
Nothing else of interest to note really. Oh, apart from the elevator scene and Syd turning away from Vaughen. And also that this was the 47th episode of the season. :D
6/10
Psycho Jack - November 16, 2004 09:50 PM (GMT)
3.04 - A Missing Link
Better. The hotel sequence alone was worth the whole episode. Especially the swim suit. Mama mia!  A great look for JG in general as well. It was very Elektra . . . especially the leather pants. Simon knowing her from before turned out to be a nice little touch. Think of the chances! :whistling:
A great ending too. Very 24 thought, for those who know what I’m referring to. I’m itching to get the next one going, but I wont be able to til at least Thursday night now.
Anyway – back to basics with Sloane. He is quite clearly manipulating Lauren. Looks like she might turn out to be an interesting character after all with the hint at her controlling father.
Jack’s move in making Dixon aware of the video of Syd killing Sark’s father was perfect. Reverse game theory at its best. Thought whether it will come to bite him in the ass yet remains.
I have to pull them up on accents though. They were wavering left right and centre. Lauren and Simon especially. Maybe it was just me but one minute they were English the next a hybrid of American and English with a pinch of Aussie in Lauren’s case.
Nice interaction with Marshall and his Mrs too. I know Marshall doesn’t have a big fan base, but I like him. His lack of common sense amuses me.
7/10
Flamingo - November 17, 2004 12:42 PM (GMT)
Marshall doesnt have a big fan base? Now thats not right! Dammit if I cant find one Im gonna set one up.
Yeah, I dont like S3 Dixon either, but I have found that over the several years I have been watching Alias his character has grown on me.. he is a great guy! B)
Oh, and Vaughn is spelt like that < Just thought Id let y'all know! :P
Persephone - November 17, 2004 02:02 PM (GMT)
pffft, Kate's gone all 'spelling Nazi' like
willowroolz - November 17, 2004 05:26 PM (GMT)
All this means is that JJ Abrams can't spell.
Flamingo - November 17, 2004 06:24 PM (GMT)
LOL. I didnt mean to sound like a Nazi, promise! Just thought I'd point out a little fact :D

3x05 (Repercussions) and 3x06 (The Nemesis)
3x05 and 3x06
Repercussions The Nemesis
You’ll have to excuse the mixed up comments, watched two in one go and now can’t remember what happened in what!
Two good solid episodes.
Very good re-introduction for Alison. And very odd ending . . . are we to belive she is some sorta super-human or something. Hmmm… guess I’ll find out tonight when I carry on watching. I am quite happy that MD is back. Even thought it is for a short stint. I always quite liked her. The fight was disappointing thought. But I guess that’s because nothing is going to top the *that* fight. :(
Random guest star of the week: man, he is sinister. I was sure he’d cut off Sloane’s arm. Whilst we’re on Sloane, this parallel being drawn to him and Sydney as the double agents is almost w**king for me, but I’m still unsure of his allegiances. <_<
As for Jack. Ah man. Isn’t he a clever boy?! Killing Walker in cold blood was, well . . . . cold!
Re Lauren and Syd. It was nearly going to all kick off, but then they it didn’t and they bonded. Still unsure about her as a character . . . . she is very thin thought, isn’t she? The random bit of semi-nudity was great. It catered for both girls and boys. I was happy! B)
So - the CIA is holding information from the NSC who in turn is withholding information from the CIA. What the f**k? The US has far too many agencies. They all need to just sit down and sort it out over a pint because it really is getting silly now. ;) :D
Anyway – major knit-pick – Vaughn’s speedy recovery from a stab wound. Wow! What lies!
Still liking Dixon in charge. He hasn’t done anything to disappoint me yet. Telling Syd to kill ‘that bitch’ was just the icing on top of the cake for me.
Oh - the drums. *shakes head*. That was cringe-central . . . didn’t like that.
The flashbacks were rather good though. At last seeing how Francie died.
Anywho – that’s about it really. Nothing majorly wrong atm but at the same time nothing all the good kicking off either.
Repercussions - 7/10
The Nemesis – 6.5/10
Psycho Jack - November 23, 2004 12:27 AM (GMT)
3.7 - Prelude
Woa! A very ‘big’ episode . . .
The most disturbing start to an Alias yet. Not very good computer graphics mind.
Lauren turned out to be interesting after all. As did Sloane.
I want one of those cars Marshall had.
A fantastic fight scene. Very Elektra again, especially with the double mini-sword things. :D
Good confrontations between Jack / Vaughn and Dixon / Sloane
A sign of the good old spark between Syd and Vaughn.
Absolutely no reference to Alison and her escape thought. Very disappointing on that front. <_<
And a great ending.
Overall, enjoyed it mucho. Probably best of the season so far. Must’ve been a sweeps episode!
7.5/10
Psycho Jack - November 23, 2004 12:29 AM (GMT)
3.08 - Breaking Point
Another belter . . . thought it seems to be recurring pattern in Alias now. Someone is in trouble via official channels, lots of rules are broken, said person is broken out. Meah, who am I to knit-pick? I actually thought it worked quite well.
A nice adrenaline packed episode with a nice little twist in the fat bald guy. I would’ve quite liked to see Syd hit him a few times before Lauren killed him. Guess killing the Doc was enough for her.
Good developments both on the part of Lauren and Sloane, could he possible be good? Mhhh, I’m not buying yet. Although his actions certainly merit reward.
A very out of tune opening sequence thought. It jumped into the credits straight from the Previously.
Also have to pull MG on her accent again. It keeps wavering between Aussie and English and American.

They tend to do that when they don't want anything to break up the opening of the episode. I kind of like the way they handle the opening titles on Alias. I think it still holds the record for the longest teaser I've ever seen, it was about 13 minutes before the opening titles ran.

It was on par with Tony's even speedier recovery on 24. One hour (literally) shot, in the neck of all places, and a few hours later back in the office to finish the whole day off. . .wtf??

3.09 - Conscious
Odd episode. Very odd. Clearly Mr Abrams took a book out of the Whedon school of thought and did a ‘dream’ episodes. It worked, but it also didn’t. It was certainly interesting seeing David Cronneberg of all people in front of a camera. I would’ve actually liked to have seem him guest-direct. Now that would’ve been one episode way way out to the left.
The more I see Kurt Fuller as Lindsey, the more convinced I am he wasn’t the right actor for the part. As distinguished as a career he has in B-roles and TV, he’s just not quite evil enough. <_<
Fight sequence of Syd V Syd was painful in parts as you could tell which was one was the stunt double.
Syd beating Lauren - nice touch. As was hinting at Sloane being evil still.
Also – managed to notice the 47 for the first time ever. Most of the times it just flies over my head, but this time there was no missing it.
Should’ve been excellent, was disappointing at worst, average at best. Classic ending though.
6/10

3.10 - Remnants
Yay! Will . . . you gota love Will. And he gets his way with Syd. Way to go, isn’t Alcohol lovely? And he killed Alison. Even better. Or did he actually? She survived the last time and she was shot. Guess we’ll have to wait and see. Excellent seeing Will back though. I always thought he was a great character. The conversation between him and Syd at the end was touching.
Anyway – better this. I like it when they go on ‘missions’. Will remind anyone else of JM doing Spike?
But I am confused. Very confused. How on earth did everything get sorted out and everyone get back to w**k? Eh? Was is the ‘hand’? did that prove that Sark’s dad was actually alive . . . more and more loose ends are being left all over the place. I would’ve loved for a little monologue at the end between Jack and Syd discussing, nay spoon-feeding me, with how on earth everything went okay . . .
Sloane is one bad man. <_<
Brutal kick to door to stop Sark, who we now know has a first name, Julian
Good conversation between Vaughn and Jack. “Be cruel to be kind . . .” – makes sense. And he clealry did.
Also – a nice return to Rambaldi I see. They’ve certainly danced around the issue for the past few episodes.
7/10

3.11 - Full Disclosure
Excellent start, excellent episode in fact. And a very good revelation of the past two years. When you get flashbacks in flashbacks, you know you’re in for a treat. Seeing Kendel back was also good. I always like him too.
In the grand scheme of things, I’m prepared to buy the back-story. . . for now!. So not much more to say on that really. How things go on from here and this mention of the passenger will probably set the tone for the season.
Now for the biggie – Lauren is, dum dum dum . . . evil. Woa! I didn’t see that coming. I should’ve. Having watched enough 24. By the time in became evident that were going to see this shooter, I had guess it though. So I’m not totally stupid. :whistling: ;)
One other thing, the voice in the flashback that told Syd to kill the man was quite clearly Quentin Tarantino. <_<
Overall, this probably pips episode o’season for me now.
8/10 (just for the little twist!) :D
Michelle - November 24, 2004 01:36 AM (GMT)
I'm finding it rather difficult to remember half these episodes, even with your long reviews. Probably cos I raced through them in about 4 days, so it all blurs into one!
