Title: 4x13 United (2 Of 3)

QUOTE
The crew of the Enterprise NX-01 will reportedly draw closer to discovering the relationship between Vulcans and Romulans in season four's thirteenth episode.

Currently entitled "United", the episode is set to continue the storyline begun in "Babel One", in which Enterprise is assigned to transport Tellarite and Andorian delegations to a peace conference. When the Andorians claim one of their ships was destroyed by the Tellarites, on-board tensions start to escalate (story).

However, the real culprit in the attacks appears to be the Romulans, though their identity is unknown to the crew of the Enterprise. The Romulan ship is equipped with technology which allows it to attack without being discovered — but the vessel is damaged during the altercation. The high-ranking Senator Vrax, together with his official escort of Reman guards, is sent out to the ship to investigate the situation.

The Romulan captain, Valdore, explains the critical nature of the situation to Vrax. He is concerned that Enterprise may discover that the Romulans and Vulcans are related. This will tie in with the Vulcan Reformation Arc, set to begin November 19 with "The Forge", in which the Vulcans recover Surak's writings, which could contain information about their link with the Romulans.

Senator Vrax isn't trying to prevent the Vulcans discovering the true nature of their relationship — far from it, he is committed to the reunification of the two species. But he feels that premature discovery of the fact by Enterprise could destabilise the Romulans' plans for reuniting with the Vulcans on their own terms. And the Romulans will do anything to make sure their secret does not come out...

Well this is the first episode I have watched since the disgraceful decision to prematurely axe the series (and yes I still feel angry at that and yes I will still defend Enterprise!!!) and already we have a perfect example of why the show should NOT have been axed.

Well acted, well directed, a perfect continuation to the previous episode and a 'shock' ending.

This episode furthered the series aim to lead to the United Federation of Planets and I cannot wait for the concluding episode of this particular arc next week.

The best thing I have watched all weekend inc the two episodes of B5 I watched ealier.

My favourite line was

"You're good at building things, I'm good at blowing them up."

If there's one good thing that Enterprise has taught us, it's that its good to have a character who likes blowing things up.

This episode was better, and gets the dubious honour of being one of my favourites from this season so far. It was nice to see Trip and Reed together again - I've always felt they w**k well together under pressure - S1's Shuttlepod One was one of my favourite episodes.

However, there was one annoying bit - the oh-so predictable fight, where Archer is forced in a fight to the death which we all know he'll win, and that he won't kill Shran.

Also, I think this story has best shown the idea of a story arc - while the Andorian/Tellarite subplot is all hapily sorted out by the end of this episode, there's still an ongoing arc with the Romulan threat.

By far the best part of the trilogy this one. I was a little disappointed with the next one :(

Did I miss something important in this episode, or is the synopsis James posted up there, seriously spoilery?

Another enjoyable one. But a bit mixed though. In some places, good stuff, in some (the fight between Archer and Shren) it was Trek by Numbers, however well done it was.

I did enjoy seeing Hoshi and Mayweather getting their heads together in going through the information about the Andorian ritual. How long did that sequence last? Just how much effort does it take to get little character pieces like that spliced into a show. So damn irritating that you get little positives like this in season 4, when we should have had them in season 1 and all through.

I'm with Phillip... I've always enjoyed the Tucker/Reed thing too, when we get to see it. 'Shuttlepod One' was easily one of the first seasons stand out episodes. I agree with your arc comment too, Phillip.

I laughed too at the line Matthew quoted.

I was slightly :o at the revelation of the Andorian being under the VR hood. But I expect that was just me!

All in all, looking forward to the finale.

I enjoyed this one also. I wanted to see Enterprise explore some of the other species and now they're doing it. Better late than never.

Like Andrew I was surprised at the final shot. Just when I thought it was over as well.

Roll on next week
