Fallen Angel
Synopsis
Mulder puts the future of the X-Files in jeopardy when he heads to a UFO crash site being rapidly covered up by the military. He is arrested and while in jail he meets Max Fenig, a UFO nut whose NICAP group has followed Mulder's work on the X-Files.
When Mulder is released, Scully urges him to return to Washington to face his superiors and try and save his job but Mulder finds out that Max is more than meets the eye and ignores Scully to try and save him instead.
Fantastic episode for a number of reasons. Odd that after a string of average episodes it takes a return to the UFO/Alien genre to pick the pace back up.
Firstly there's the story itself, which was quite interesting. The first episode that we actually have a real live alien out and about on the loose. With the Alien POV and it's 'stealth' mode, it was very Predator-esque.
Then there's the introduction of Max Fenig, one of the XF's great characters IMO. Seeing another believers views just helps put Mulder's own motivations into perspective.
Finally, I love the scene where Mulder's spying on the crashed ship. All the smoke and the Bio-suits. Great stuff
