Title: Angel 5.18
Persephone - May 11, 2004 09:06 PM (GMT)
All hail Drew Goddard ;)
About time they addressed the whole mindwarp. Loved the scenes between Connor and Angel, wow.
I'll post more tomorrow, this one is definitely one to watch again.

This episode is just fantastic
And at the end where Connor's telling Angel he has to look after his family and that it was his father who taught him that....the few seconds where Angel realises that Connor remembers everything and the look on his face as he watched him walk away...wow :D

I don't know if I'm getting more sentimental, but there has been a few Angel episodes this season to bring a tear, sad and happy.
I definitely need to rewatch, I was trying to explain the backstory to hubby at the same time, and missed bits :(
Those scenes between lovely Wes and Illyria were perfection

I just remembered,
Illyria: I want to keep Spike as my pet

“I’d like to keep Spike as my pet!”
Great stuff. A good solid 40 odd minuets of what I like about Angel; back-story, axes, jokes, treachery, action, old characters, Spike getting an ass kicking and at long last the mind wipe issue addressed.
Starting from the top: the Spike and Ilyria interaction was brilliant. He was again reduced to comic-sidekick and with good reason this time, but it was balanced perfectly imo. AA is still refreshing as when she first transformed and it was good to have her involved in the main arc. Her time-shifting antics certainly came in handy.
It was fitting that Wes was the one to betray Angel again. Way back when at the start of the season, Eve asked something from Angel along the lines of “How will he learn if he doesn’t know what he did to you?” . . . guess now he does. And the little montage they did of s3 through to s4 was great.
As for Gunn . . . . well, Suburbia-Hell was disturbing. He is still paying his price and looking for redemption as he clearly let Adam Baldwin know. Whilst we’re on him, I’m likeing him more and more. He has a very dazzling persona.
All of which bring me on the prodigal son. Having been one of the critics of Connor from the start until around Home when he actually got interesting, I liked ‘College Boy’ Connor. I've read a lot of speculation about the ending, but imo it was clear. Connor remembered and finally understood. I can see the argument for both sides but for me it was ‘Destroyer’ Connor that killed Sahjan, but not before some fantastically written banter. VK done good. On top of that DB and Vk interacted well, I think DB nailed the ‘proud but protector’ father right on the head.
It was a fine end to the Connor arc for me, be it a tad rushed. I think I would’ve preferred a two-parter.
I am now officially sad at Angel’s cancellation.

Looks like you'll be buying a ticket to denial land, like the rest of us Psycho Jack ;)
Great review btw,

Yeah Psycho Jack. You summed it all up perfectly. Why can't I write like that?
I also liked the fact that 'College' Connor even looked different to 'Destroyer' Connor, and not just in his clothes and attitudes. You could really tell when he got his memories back, his whole stance and bearing changed instantly.

Since Jack did such a great review, I'm just going to put a few random quotes that made me laugh
Connor: I've always had a thing for older women
Angel: (muttering) I thought they fixed that
Spike: First, no more hitting me in the face, secondly ,when I punch you in the face, tell me how you feel, so I can write it down on my clipboard, thirdly, no touching my clipboard
Gunn: Come on Sparky, it's not gonna cut itself up
Connor: I'll slit your throat, and if that doesn't work, I'll erm, cut your head off, and if that doesn't work, I'll stab you over and over, till you bleed to death
Hamilton: Let's be clear about this, things run differently now, I'm not a little girl and you and I won't be making love on this couch, anytime soon
Connor: Do you spend all your time making out with other vampires, like in Anne Rice novels.
Angel: No, I er, used to
Connor: Well before you start trying to kiss me, I should probably tell ya, we're supposed to fight
Sahjhan: Is that right

Cheers people. I just say it the way I see it. :)
To be honest, before this I wasn’t too bothered about the cancellation, mainly because I don’t think on the greater part S5 has been worth it. This showed what Angel can do. . . . better late than never I suppose.
Lets hope it goes out with a bang! :D

That was a fantastic episode. I never had a problem with Connor, so it was nice to see him get the send off (assuming it is his send off!) that he deserved. The Spike/Illyria stuff was brilliant too. And am I the only one who wants to see Gunn left in the hell dimension? Thought so.
