Title: Season 2, Your Thoughts......

melian - October 6, 2004 09:59 AM (GMT)
When we finished season 1 we had a 'Story so far....' thread. This time I thought it might be interesting for us to share our best bits from season 2.

So whats your favorite episode, quote, scene. The best/worst/most disgusting/scariest creature. Funniest episode.
Basically anything and everything you liked about the whole season

melian - October 7, 2004 10:07 AM (GMT)
This is harder than I thought :(

Hmmm. For me, the funniest episode this season has got to be Out Of Their Minds. Or Won't Get Fooled Again. Help!! I can't decide!

willowroolz - October 7, 2004 10:15 AM (GMT)
Okay, well this may take several posts cos I'm doing it off the top of my head...

Favourite episode:
Well, the last four, from A Not So Simple Plan to Die Me, Dichotomy are absolutely stunning and pave the way for the magnificent third year, so they'll always get a mention. Then there are cracking comedy episodes like Out of Their Minds and Crackers Don't Matter.

And then there's Won't Get Fooled Again, which is a scarily brilliant and daring piece of television.

But I think, as an indivual, stand-alone episode, The Way We Weren't stands out by a country mile. In terms of writing, direction, acting, character development and raw emotion it is one of the very best and I think it makes it impossible to view Pilot as "just a puppet" ever again.

The best/worst/most disgusting/scariest creature:
Hmmm. Well, Natira's undoubtedly the best - the costume is just unbelievable on a tv budget. The worst has to be the Vorc, bloody awful. Most disgusting, I'm going with Grunchlk, although I think Scorpy runs it close and the Plakovoids were pretty oozy. Scariest, I'm going with Natira again. Those things on her head are seriously freaky.

Funniest episode:
I'm torn between Crackers Don't Matter and Won't Get Fooled Again, both of which are absolutely brilliant pieces of work that you just wouldn't find on any other series. The humour in Farscape always seems to come naturally out of the characters and situations to me, much like Buffy and Angel, whereas it seems forced on a lot of other shows.

Quote, scene:
That's too tough - there are too many! Quotes, anything in Crackers... and Out of Their Minds, anything in the last four episodes.

John: This is becoming a problem you're going to need professional help with. First you betray the Peacekeepers, and every vow you've made since you were born, and now poor Sparky here? Tell me, Princess, when you're old and fat, will you have anything to look back on with pride?
Aeryn: Is that it? Oh, don't stop. Why don't you make another speech, you self-important, deficient little man! All you ever do is talk! Your father was the hero, you know. He did things. You're just a test monkey that screwed up your first experiment!
John: That is good! That is fantastic, coming from a frigid, flat-butted, Peacekeeper skank!

Aeryn (to Pilot): Do you remember when you first came aboard Moya? Velorek stroked your cheek like this to calm you. Back then I couldn't fathom why he'd do a thing like that. And now I wouldn't fathom not doing it. We've come a long way since then, Pilot, and we've still got a long way to go. Take the journey with me.

John in Rygel: Yeah, Zhaan wants to hear it from you. She won't listen to Rygel.
Rygel in Aeryn: I told you. You all say I'm paranoid, but it's frelling true: no-one ever listens to me.
John in Rygel: Can it fur ball.
Rygel in Aeryn: Great, now I'm getting yotz from my own body.

Officer Gordon (Crais), holding a dog: I like your style, hombre, but this is no laughing matter. Assault on a police officer; theft of police property; illegal possession of a firearm; five counts of attempted murder. That comes to $29.40. Cash, cheque or credit card. (pause) Toto. (turns and walks out)

John: What about your great reformation?
Bekesh: It's easier to reform when you're rich.

Rygel: I'm nobody's puppet!

Aeryn: I am reminded at this point of a word that you actually brought to this vessel: hope.
John: I would be lost without you.
Aeryn: Then you'll never be lost.

Scene, oh God I don't know. I love Aeryn's last scene with Pilot in TWWW, the final scene and the rescue in Plan B, the final scene of With Friends Like These, practically everything in Won't Get Fooled Again and Crackers Don't Matter. And then there's the whole of Die Me, Dichotomy, especially the dogfight and the funeral, the bit with the mirror at the beginning.

Hey, you asked!

I know I'm banging on about this, but season two was very erratic in terms of quality. I can see why the series lost a lot of viewers during this year, due to the poorer episodes. Unfortunately the knock-on effect was that it made it next to impossible for them to return to the series later on, because the ongoing story becomes such a major player from now on.

The structure of the season is identical to all the others: a lot of stand-alone stories to start off with, the big arc kicking in around halfway through, building up to the big multi-episode climax.

There aren't many series around that will devote an entire season to the mental breakdown of its leading character. The closest I can think of is Willow's deterioration in s6 of Buffy, but I don't think even that comes close in the end (especially seeing as she's not the leading character   ).

The big episodes are huge, massive, epic pieces of brilliance and they really are the season's saving graces. It's because of them that I stuck with the series.

I found it the same as season 1, a few very dodgy eps, but obviously still something to take on, even with the bad eps, to carry on watching.

I'm going to think, before I post anything else. The 2nd season finale has put me in a strange mood

I forgot Crackers Don't Matter :(

I love that one too! Oh god, this is really hard

I'll have another think.

Oh, I think grossest moment has to be the eyeball thing in A Clockwork Nebari. Closely followed by Scorpy popping his rod in Liars, Guns, and Money, Part 3 :o

You thought that was gross? I thought it was hilarious. And quite pornographic.

melian - October 7, 2004 01:57 PM (GMT)
Sorry, no. I thought it was gross!

Ah, I forgot you have a thing for Natira

Ah, I forgot you have a thing for Natira

It wasn't the Natira thing, it was just so funny, like Xander and his drink carton. How many different ways can they come up with to show the male of the species throwing a pearl necklace?

willowroolz - October 7, 2004 04:03 PM (GMT)
I knew I could kill this thread if I tried

melian - October 7, 2004 04:04 PM (GMT)
Not so fast Mr!!

I was just looking to find my favourite quotes to post :P

laughitupfuzzball - November 4, 2004 09:06 PM (GMT)
 ah Season 2 where to begin.

Mind the Baby, excellent start, love Talyn, Crais trying to manipulate Aeryn, D'Argo & John scissors paper stone. The brilliant Crackers don't matter, its the first time we see John with a dark side - interesting and the silly ending was admirably daft v funny.

The Way We Weren't is brilliant and the flashback sequences worked really well. Wow Pilot wow! Reminds us how Aeryn used to be, important for character change, Pilot shows aggressive side and also flaws not so innocent after all. Also how Crais/Aeryns relationship has changed.

Home on the remains, good fun. We get to see just how shady Chiana's past was and how funny is Ben Browder. Out of their minds just totally hilarious and for some reason the Halosians reminded me of original Battlestar Gallactica not sure why.

Look at the princess trilogy had many good points, the return of Scorpius, the introduction of Scarrans, Aeryn and John kiss, Aeryn and Dregon very funny,D'Argo & Chiana lol, Crichton being turned into a statue and having his head knocked off (you think ok how are they going to remedy that!) Braca wonderful in this and how great was the Chiana rescue.

Beware of the Dog, the crew are starting to notice that John is acting strange. Evil Rygel oooh.

Won't get fooled again. Great acting in this one also very sad and funny at t same time. Scorpius - mmm so what are his motives? Scorpy playing drums surreal episode or what.

The Locket, I liked old cantancorous and dirty old man like John & Aeryn.

Clockwork Nebari, liked seeing more Chiana, Neri story and more Nebari imo shame they never developed this storyline further. Ouch at the eye pulling scenes. Aeryn v creepy in this. Rygel what cowardly fun.

Liars Guns & Money trilogy, oh how good are these eps, what a fantastic ending to the season. Love Natira, love bringing old characters back. Full of suspense, action what a visual treat and John, poor John.

When I first watched Die me dichotomy I thought no way! They can't do that and I was totally shocked they killed Aeryn, John killed Aeryn or so I thought. How cruel was that for Aeryn to finally admit her feelings and then the wickedly evil scorpius (how freaky was john/scorpius) uses this trust to kill her. What an ending, I was upset for a while I can tell you!!!

Overall these are just a few of the reasons that I loved this season. I'm sure I'll add some more:)

Are you going to join the rewatch, Alex? :)

I think season 2 had some of the very, very best episodes, especially among the ones you mentioned, like The Way We Weren't, Won't get Fooled Again and Die Me Dichotomy. Actually, the final four episodes are amazing. And you can't beat the final scene of the Look At The Princess trilogy.

laughitupfuzzball - November 4, 2004 09:25 PM (GMT)
 Yay of course:)

Scene from Look at the Princess trilogy, how many times have I watched that!!!

They're both such brilliant actors that they made it work perfectly

laughitupfuzzball - November 4, 2004 09:34 PM (GMT)
:D Thats the thing, unlike some other shows they are incredibly talented actors and handle anything thrown at them with ease. Oh no I feel a why oh why coming on:)

willowroolz - November 4, 2004 09:37 PM (GMT)
I know what you mean.

If it's any consolation, The Peacekeeper Wars is an absolutely stunning way for them to end it all.

I think 'The Locket' is a vastly underrated Ep.
I found it very touching and emotional

Well, that's the nearest I'LL get to my 'feminine' side anyway

Glad to hear it.

I liked The Locket, too. It was just that it reminded me so much of TNG's The Inner Light, except it was more fun. Crotchety old Aeryn and John

:D I liked the locket too, I grew on me the more times that I saw it :D
