Title: 1.15 Objects In Space
Persephone - September 27, 2004 10:08 AM (GMT)
The crew is caught off-guard when a bounty hunter, eager to claim the enormous reward on River's head, sneaks aboard Serenity and methodically begins taking the crew prisoner one by one

I thought this was a great episode, loved that River could read their minds and true intentions, quite sad though :(
Early was seriously creepy and very well acted I thought, nice to see him being freaked out by River though and how sweet is it when she gives everyone the strength to help, particularly when she speaks to Kaylee.
The crew's reaction to River totally changes from her being strange, a witch, dangerous to unifying them against Early and showing how strong she is even if odd
Simon again proves that he will do anything to protect her continually telling Early to kill him because he won't help :)

Although I liked this episode, there was something about it that set it apart from the rest of the series for me and I was a bit disappointed that it was the final one. I think I'd've preferred it to end with the previous episode.
Having said that, some great stuff, River pretending to be Serenity was inspired, LOL, and Simon's bravery and protection over his sister was lovely to see. Early was very creepy, especially when he was dealing with Kaylee :(

Yes Early really had the air of a psycho killer :fear: and totally insane, "am I a lion"
SIMON
Are you Alliance?
EARLY
Am I a lion?
SIMON
What?
EARLY
I don't think of myself as a lion.
You may as well, though: I have a
mighty roar.
SIMON
I said "Alliance".
EARLY
Oh. I thought --
SIMON
No, I was...
EARLY
That's weird.
:fear:

I listened to the commentary on this, and it was a mixture of pretentious crap and really interesting insight into how Joss' mind works. There was so much attention to detail - the comparison between the planet at the beginning and the bouncy ball at the end, the focus on River's feet and Summer Glau's past as a dancer, the way Serenity was constructed and so forth.
The setting was perfect for Simon's dry, sardonic wit. Although you always had the feeling Early had the upper hand in their conversations, Simon was there with the sarcasm which really helped when River pretended to become Serenity.
I was also disappointed that this was the last episode. Although Firefly proved it could do serious drama, my abiding memory will always be the sparkling script and a humourous episode would have gone down far better as the last one. It was a shame that we lost the show just as River started to play a more central role within the crew.

This was a great episode very dramatic I felt so sorry for River

| she understands but she does not comprehend |
that just about sums it up she is very gifted but because the Alliance have altered mind see can't relate to people nor does she know much power she has. She loves Simon and the crew but does want to put them in danger it was very nice moment between herself and Mal when he welcome her aboard :D

As I have said earlier, I think this episode and out of gas are my favourites of the whole series
Jubal Early (played by the very lovely Richard Brooks) was chillingly insane throughout, though it did tend to make conversations more interesting
River pretending to be Serenity was amazing, I really started to wonder if it really were true the first time I saw this  Well, they had all just been talking about her being psychic!!
Poor Kaylee, she was so happy after nearly making a connection with Simon, only to be threatened horribly by Jubal :fear: I was scared for her!
Simon. Well, I think this may have been his best episode. He showed just how much he was willing to do to save his sister, even going so far as to continue to attack Jubal after being shot! And he managed NOT to mess things up with Kaylee this time :D

I thought this episode was very tense and not as fun as other eps but still brilliant. Early was very intimidating and I found the scene between him and Kaylee very uncomfortable to watch - great acting by both actors made it very believable and poor Kaylee looked terrified.
I have to admit I actually thought at one point that River had bonded in some way with the ship and thought "I don't think I like where they're heading with this" but thankfully it turned out that she was on Early's ship. I really felt sorry for her in this episode because she seemed more aware of what eveyrone thought about her, but it all worked out in the end and she does have a place on Serenity. I also liked the final scenes with the crew at peace with each other and Early floating in space . I can't believe that more questions were raised about Book and we don't get any answers - Early's "He ain't no shepherd". Who is he?????
And :lmao: that Jayne slept through the crisis!
