Persephone - September 27, 2004 09:58 AM (GMT)
Mal is shocked to discover his friend's new bride is Saffron who, although furious after Mal blows her cover, offers to cut Mal in on what she calls the perfect, big-time scam

:) Very funny episode and Naked Mal
Saffron great character, good to see her return although I'll never believe she was really crying.
Loved the plan
I liked the idea of the super rich having their own tiny islands above the ocean
Yay for Zoe for punching Saffron, yay to Inara for being there to lock Saffron in the trash can
and Naked Mal :)

Did you happen to notice naked Mal at all? ;)
This was so brilliantly done with all the twists and turns and the big surprise at the end with Inara being the one to finish the job, so to speak. I also loved the little islands for the very rich :D
laughitupfuzzball - February 28, 2005 09:53 AM (GMT)
 Oh and I noticed that Naked Mal had a tattoo of Serenity on his thigh, or thats what it looked like to me
willowroolz - February 28, 2005 10:06 AM (GMT)
Brilliant episode, despite naked Mal :p
The special effects are superb, loved the scenes with Simon and Jayne, loved the way Kaylee proved herself smarter than Saffron
Was it me, or did the gun look like a crap water pistol?

I noticed something but didn't pay attention to what it was! Time for a closer look, methinks ;)

:ph43r: On closer inspection I'm not so sure, I have read a theory that it might have something to do with the independents, doesn't hurt to keep looking

According to
this it's a real tattoo that Nathan Fillion got when he was 19. So not just for the show!
Cardelia - March 27, 2005 11:37 PM (GMT)
Saffron's back :D
Was it just me, or did Simon seem strangely reluctant to treat Jayne just after he got electrocuted? He didn't find out about the betrayal in Ariel until after Jayne was immobilised (despite River's hints in earlier episodes) so I don't get what was going on there.
One of the weird things about Firefly was that in 500 years time, the most advanced weaponry was still projectile-based weapons. Maybe it's simply the most reliable weaponry, but it was good to know that energy-based weapons were out there.
grrrarrrgh - March 30, 2005 09:18 PM (GMT)
I love this episode - esp Nathan's bum  :D
clever: loved the twists, the turns and everything reallu. (Not v articulate reallu, but everyone else has covered it :D)

Well my replacement Firefly set arrived today  So I could continue my I was can't say rewatch as it the first time I've seen Firefly so I guess thats makes it a "watch" instead  Anyway I continued where I left off.
It's always good to see Saffron she maybe a double dealing cheating snake but like she said she's hot  I knew the crew wouldn't fall for it but hadn't worked out their plan. You know what they say never play a player or in this case players  very funny episode I think they should have rewritten it so that Kaylee was the one sitting naked on the rock :naughty: I'm not sure if the narrative would have still have worked but who cares
laughitupfuzzball - May 1, 2005 07:19 AM (GMT)
 No it worked fine as Mal ;)
very funny episode
Im_Here - May 10, 2005 06:17 PM (GMT)
another funny episode, love jaynes humour again, if theres anyway for him to get cruder i just cant see it.
Jayne: Captain says you're to stay put. Doesn't want you runnin' afoul of his blushin' psychotic bride. She figures out who you are, she'll turn you in 'fore you can say... "don't turn me in, lady".
Jayne: Well, I say as a rule that girlfolk ain't to be trusted.
River: Jayne is a girl's name.
Jayne: Well Jayne ain't a girl. She starts on that "girl's name" thing, I'm a show her good an' all I got man parts.
Simon: I'm trying to think of a way for you to be cruder. It's just not coming.
AL

Another great episode as everyone else has said
 to naked Mal, always a good thing to have a naked man on TV
So glad it was Inara that shut Saffron in the trash can :lmao: and Jayne was hilarious as always :lmao:
melian - June 24, 2005 04:28 PM (GMT)
I know everyone else seems to love the 'Saffron' episodes but I really don't like her
It may have something to do with her trying to kill Mal and the crew ;)
Though I suppose the sight of naked Mal is enough to tip the balance in this episodes favour
Best quotes:
Mal: Yep... That went well.
Mal: This is my scrap of nowhere. You go on and find your own.
Saffron: I'll die.
Mal: Well, as a courtesy, you might start getting busy on that, cause all this chatter ain't doin' me any kindness.
Saffron: He's my husband.
Mal: Well who in the damn galaxy isn't?
River: Also, I can kill you with my brain.
endgame - June 26, 2005 01:33 PM (GMT)
Oh my, naked Mal  :naughty:
Nice to see Saffron again. Was she really crying on the ship with Mal before she took the gun off him? And was she really in love with Hamer? It was a nice twist that the crew duped Saffron. Love the title too: "Trash" - it works on so many levels :lmao:
And Simon knows that it was Jayne who turned him and River over to the Feds on Ariel. I expected him to do something to Jayne when he was knocked out, but I liked what he said to him in the infirmary about how how they should trust each other because they have enough enemies and River's: "Also, I can kill you with my brain"
I can't believe that when these eps were first screened in the US they were shown out of sequence, given the continuity between eps how did the network expect fans to understand what was going on? Seems like they didn't want to give Firefly a chance to catch on
 I only have 3 eps left now. Is it bad that I don't want to watch them because then it'll be over? I know the film will be out soon, and I can always rewatch and watch all the extras, but it won't be the same :tear:
laughitupfuzzball - June 26, 2005 04:50 PM (GMT)
The only thing I can say to console you is apart from the film (s) is that you can enjoy watching them over and over and get more from them every time.
The novelty is gone but you will still get emotional and enjoy various scenes just as much. Certain episodes grow on you more too.
Actually I think its the only series that I can watch episodes again shortly afterwards and still enjoy just as much.
The commentaries are fabulous and the extras are great too
endgame - June 26, 2005 05:39 PM (GMT)
Thanks laughitupfuzzball :) . I know I'm just being silly, but I'm really enjoying the series (probably because it's the only show I haven't read any spoilers for). I didn't expect to enjoy it this much - not bad for an impulse buy  . I'm actually looking forward to watching it all over again because there have been a few eps that I've wanted to rewatch straight away, and I can't wait to hear the commentaries and watch the extras. Normally I'd go for them first but I didn't want to be spoiled for the series.
I'm still going to wait for a while before I watch the last three eps though ;)

I can't remember if anyone's posted this before, but here's some details on the way the show was originally aired :)

Airing and cancellation
Though the show had a loyal following during its original broadcast, it was cancelled by FOX in December 2002 after 11 episodes shown in the USA and Canada. Low ratings were blamed for the cancellation. In the hopes of getting another network such as UPN to pick up the cancelled show, fans formed the Firefly Immediate Assistance campaign, but were unsuccessful in promoting the show's continuance. Fillion later appeared in the final season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, while Torres and Baldwin took on recurring roles in Angel.
Fans attributed the low ratings in part to some actions of the FOX Network. Firefly was promoted as an action-comedy rather than the more serious character study it was intended to be; episodes were occasionally preempted for sporting events, and the episodes were not aired in the order that the creators had intended. Most notably, the two-hour episode "Serenity" was intended to be the pilot episode, as it contains most of the character introductions and back-story. However, FOX decided that "Serenity" was not a suitable pilot, and so the second episode, "The Train Job," was rushed into production to become the pilot episode.
The sequence of episodes aired varied by locality:
* In the USA and Canada, starting on September 20, 2002, Fox broadcast the episodes on Fridays at 20:00 (except for the second hour of the pilot which was shown at 21:00). The order was 2-3, 6-8, 4-5, 9-10, 14, 1; with 11-13 unaired in the USA. * In South Africa, starting on 2003-04-15, the SABC3 broadcast the episodes on Tuesdays at 19:30. The order was 2-3, 6-8, 4-5, 9-10, 14, 1a-1b, 11-13. * In Mexico and South America, starting on 2003-04-19, MundoFOX broadcast the episodes on Saturdays at 18:00. The order was 2-3, 6-8, 4-5, 9-10, 13, 11, 14, 12; the pilot episode was not shown. * In the United Kingdom, starting on May 12, 2003, Sci Fi Channel (United Kingdom) broadcast the episodes on Mondays at 21:00 (except for the first hour of the pilot which was shown at 20:00). The altered episodes of the first season were shown in the originally intended order. * In the United States, starting on July 22, 2005, Sci-Fi Channel will air the show on Fridays at 19:00 Eastern/Pacific. It will be taking the slot previously occupied by Gene Roddenberry's: Kev Trek.

Thanks willowroolz, I didn't know the full story about the cancellation.
Ok, so Fox screened "Serenity" parts 1&2 last?? And they didn't even show eps 11, 12 and 13?? :damnyou: I'm shocked and disgusted (and even a little angry!). At least we're getting a movie though

Watching this again last night, some more favourite bits jumped out:
Monty: Damn you, Bridget! Damn you ta Hades! You broke my heart in a million pieces! You made me love you, and then y-- I SHAVED MY BEARD FOR YOU, DEVIL WOMAN!
Inara: Should I start with the part where you're stranded in the middle of nowhere, or the part where you have no clothes?
Mal: All according to plan.
Inara: Right. You're a criminal mastermind. What was the last cargo we snuck past the Alliance to transport?
Mal: We made a perfectly good piece-
Inara: What was the cargo?
Mal: They were dolls!
Inara: They were little geisha dolls with big heads that wobbled!
Mal: People love those!
Saffron: You're asking yourself if I've got the security codes, why don't I just go in and grab it for myself -- why cut you in?
Wash: No. Actually... I was wondering... What's she doing on the ship!? Didn't she try to kill us?
Saffron: Please. Nobody died last time.
Wash: We're in space. How'd she get here?
Mal: She hitched.
Wash: I don't recall pulling over...
Mal: Look. Point is, there's more'n one of us here wouldn't mind sticking it to a Chiang-BAO HOE-tze duh Alliance bastard. Besides that, this could be a very lucrative venture for all of us. This ain't no wobbly-headed doll caper. This here's history.
Jayne (raising his hand): Okay. I got a question. If she's got the security codes, why don't she just go in and grab it for herself -- why cut us in?
