Description: Was reviewed at Internet/US Pace

Thought we better have a thread just for Lost discussions to avoid spoiling it for people.
So what does everyone think they are?
I reckon Mr O’Quinn is in the know :ph43r:

Ep 2’s out, just a reminder to keep all revealing talk about it in this thread ;)
Should have it by tonight :)

[Sorry for using the wrong thread. It took a while for me to figure out what this thread was about.]
Second episodes of...
LOST. Still very interesting. This time it focused on other survivors--including a virtuous Iraqi Republican Guard (gee, any message there?). We get revealing flashbacks to the plane in flight just before the crash. We haven't seen Daniel Dae Kim's character background yet. He plays a Korean and he spoke only Korean in this episode while he spoke few English words in episode 1. Air crew is Australian, I guess. Accents not strong so it's hard for me to tell until they utter enuf words. Any Aussi's on this messageboard who can tell if the crews are authentic Aussi?
CSI: NY. Kept my interest but despite efforts to evoke emotional responses, it felt flat. Part of the fault may be due to Melina Kanakaredes who has a strong presence but is somewhat colorless. Puzzling: only one of the regular cast, Carmine Giovinazzo as Danny, has anything like a New York accent (well, only Emily Proctor of CSI: MIAMI has a southern sound). For DUE SOUTH fans, David Marciano (Det Vecchio) makes an appearance.

How creepy was that radio bit at the end :ph43r: Do you think that one half of the island is covered in snow? (Due to the Polar bear). I don’t think they’re giving Terry O Quinn enough to do, he’s such a great actor. I hope his story picks up soon :)

I think it's a perfect role for ToQ. You can pretty much guarantee that there's more to his character than currently meets the eye ;)

Definitely, but maybe he should call Frank in, he’d know what was killing them :P
Mr O’Quinn seems to have the biggest screen presence there imo, I find my self glued to the screen whenever he appears in anything.

O'Quinn seems to be much more involved in Episode 3 according to the previews.
The radio reveal was stunning. Very unexpected.
And that may not have been a polar bear (just a guess).
TV Yank - October 2, 2004 11:03 PM (GMT)
Did I mention (or anyone else) that ABC is replaying the first two episodes tonite (Saturday). As if it doesn't have a big enuf audience.... B)
TV Yank - October 8, 2004 02:47 AM (GMT)
Well, I was mistaken about O'Quinn having a big part in the third episode. Instead it focused on the mystery behind Kate, played by the appealing Evangeline Lilly. When she is asked if she is American, Kate says she's Canadian. When I looked up Lilly at TVTOME.com, I discovered that, indeed, the actress herself is from Alberta, Canada. Her filmography is amazingly brief. So right at the start of her career, she lands a major part in LOST.
Overnites indicate about 16.5 million viewers tuned into LOST--still impressive. It even beat out CSI: NY with 16.4 million (a CSI MIAMI repeat won the nite).

Finally got round to watching the first eps. John, the actress playing the main stewardess in the flashbacks, is definetly Australian. She's been in English dramas, as an Australian character :)
Very intriguing at the moment, I wasn't expecting Kate to be the 'prisoner' from the plane, and again, absolutely the radio reveal was stunning.
mmmmmh polar bear, on a remote tropicalish island
It took me a while to recognise Daniel Dae Kim, I wasn't expecting him not to speak in English, recognised Emilie straight away, and I love her hair straight, big improvement
Is the main character from Party of Five, looks just like him
I'll look out for the next ep
Darris - October 8, 2004 05:39 PM (GMT)
I watched Tabula Rasa today.
It was another interesting episode, i did think Hurley would tell everyone about the picture of Kate. The Kate tale was intriguing enough, i still have no idea what she could have done to be brought back on a plane in handcuffs. She obviously went to Australia to hide. She appears so nice, even asking that the man who she stayed with for 3 months got his reward money. You would expect her to be angry towards him. Just when she was about to tell what she had done, hero guy says it doesn't matter! grr what does he know!! haha
Where have i seen the black guy who's son has the dog before? Everytime i see him he seems too familiar.
I can see in a couple of episodes Emilie giving birth, she is huge!
Edit: Hoorah! i know where he is from now, he was Link in the Matrix.

Watched the third episode earlier this evening. Enjoyable stuff. I think I'll be catching this every week. Been a while since I saw the pilot but it seemed in this episode not surprisingly that certain characters took a backseat. You just kind of hope that all of the characters will be getting their turn in the spotlight. The development of Kate's character was interesting, as was that of the sneaky guy (I forgot his name already!!), can't see where he's going, although he still seems too shifty. The closing scene also leads you to believe that there's a lot more to ToQ's character as well, and perhaps not positive. Can't wait for next week's ep.

Thanks for that. It's very strange listening to the show. The accents aren't very strong which suggests the actors (even Monaghan) are modifying their accents. I guess the producers are afraid of that American viewers will flee. But they weren't afraid to resort to subtitles for Daniel.
Daniel Dae Kim's extensive use of Korean was a big surprise for me too. It turns out he was born in Korea but was in the US since he was two, which explains his perfect American accent and his ability to speak Korean. For fans, here's a website devoted to him (unofficial, I think):
http://www.danieldaekim.org/home.htmlI haven't been able to find out about the pretty lady playing Kim's wife. While her name is Kim, I doubt that she's his real life wife or that would have been mentioned time and again. She also is from Korea, but I think she grew up there.
In episode 3, Aussi actor Nick Tate makes an appearance. He's aged quite a bit since SPACE 1999--which, in the fictional sense is only a few years ago :-). But at least he sounded noticably Australian.

An accomplished actress who has already made a name for herself in Korea — and all over Asia with the film Shiri — Yunjin Kim is making her mark on American television with Lost.
Kim was bashful as a kid, so she decided to get over her shyness by taking drama classes in the seventh grade. She was immediately cast in a musical and fell in love with the theatre.
Her Korean feature film credits include starring roles in Ardor, Yesterday, Iron Palm, Ginko Bed 2 and the Japanese film, Rush, as well as roles in the television weekend dramas With Love and Wedding Dress, and the miniseries Hunch and Beautiful Vacation.
Kim was the Goodwill Ambassador for the 2002 World Cup in Japan and Korea, representing Korea. While born in Seoul, Korea, she grew up in Staten Island, New York. She attended the prestigious High School of Performing Arts in New York and received her BFA in acting from Boston University.
Kim resides in South Korea with the love of her life — her 14-year-old dog, Tobi.

Certainly is John. My one concern before the show aired was that it might not pick up the viewers necessary for survival, but so far, so good

Very interesting, James. So, like Daniel, she probably has a good American accent. But, if they ever do speak English, they'll both have to assume a Korean one, strangely enuf.
I'd to be happy to take the place of her dog, who, in human years, is considerably older than I am. ;)

The American TV GUIDE magazine had an article on LOST so I bought it. I should have read it while in the grocery line. There's isn't much that was fresh.
The first two hours (I read elsewhere that the pilot was intended to be two hours long, but they divided into two episodes, instead), cost $10 million dollars when a typical pilot will cost about $4 million for the first hour.
"LOST will mainly be a character study."
The doctor was supposed to die in the first episode but the producers liked Matthew Fox so much, they kept him alive.

Just watched the third ep, once again it was great. Kate’s story’s interesting, but I hope they don’t go down the road of making her crime accidental, misunderstood or framed, that would be far too predictable. Over all it was very good. Not too much was given away about Mr Quinn, but the little camera pan at the end keeps your interest :shifty:

That little camera pan at the end was the perfect hook to get you back for the next episode. Was for me anyway, not that I didn't plan on checking out 1x04 anyway
I'm with you on the Kate front Rob. I think a misunderstanding would be far too predictable, but with the character going the way that she is, you get the impression that a) she didn't commit the crime, and more likely B) that she's been fit up somehow. The impression I got at least. Although, the bloke chasing her seemed quite adamant that she's a danger. Interesting.

The copper did seem to let slip that he fell for her when he looked at the doc and said she’s gotten to you too (oslt) I really hope they turn her character round and give her an evil crime like murder or something

An initial half-season order of 13 episodes. Looking at the numbers garnered so far though, I'm amazed they haven't picked it up for the backward 9 yet. It should get the full 22 episode order before too long, barring catastrophe.
The thing so far is that we still know very little about any of the characters. I'm looking forward to seeing where Dom Monaghan's character goes. I like the Iraqi character as well, although we didn't see much of him in the third episode.
Guesses so far, the creature's some sort of experiment, perhaps ToQ's character is involved, perhaps an observer ??
Fascinating stuff.
Persephone - October 11, 2004 06:57 PM (GMT)
I watched the third ep. Agree about Kate, please don't make it a fit up
Interesting theory about Quinn, though the radio reveal may discount that, whatever the thing is, looks like it's been there for a while, at least 16 years anyway ;)
TV Yank - October 11, 2004 07:03 PM (GMT)
The neat thing about the show is that the possibilities are so wide-ranging. I think it is a lot of fun for viewers to speculate.
Normally, it would be very difficult holding the island mystery in abeyance, but the mysteries behind the various characters make that easy to take.
My favorite technique with whodunnits: find the least suspicious person. In this case, it would be the doctor--but he was supposed to die in the first episode, so I'm trying to determine the second least-suspicious character.

The creature's been there a long time that's for sure. That still doesn't discount Quinn from being involved though, I don't think. If the creature is an experiment, then there's no reason to assume it might be the same creature as 16 years ago, it could be a later release. Clutching at this point I know, but as John's pointed out below, the possibilities are practically endless.
TV Yank - October 14, 2004 04:15 AM (GMT)
Episode 4: LOST has not lost its momentum. Still fascinating. As I've said before, taking the time to reveal the various survivors distracts from the delayed reveal of the island's mysteries. Very clever. And it works.
This is the episode that provides us with more of Terry "Locke" O'Quinn. All I'll say is that his background story is wicked
Emilie de Ravin has more lines. This time her accent seems stronger. I don't know whether its her or me that's behind the change.
