| DR WHO legend Tom Baker has slammed the show's new star – saying he's never heard of him. He also rapped Christopher Eccleston for taking the role too seriously, adding: "Get your head out of your fat bottom." Baker, 70 - who played the time travelling doctor from 1974 to 1981 - said of Ecclestone, 40: "I was rather disappointed to hear this Doctor was going to be more serious. "It always sounds very hollow in the mouth of an actor. When actors use words like 'challenge' and 'serious' you think to yourself 'Oh just shut up'." During his days in the Tardis, Baker's Dr Who was famed for his long scarf, cloak and wit. But Eccleston - star of Shallow Grave and Gone In Sixty Seconds - said of the role: "I plan to give weight and ambiguity to it. I don't think he's going to be as eccentric and foppish as some incarnations." Dr Who hits TV screens next year with Billie Piper, 21, and the Daleks - reinstated after a Sun campaign. Baker, whose outburst came in the TV Times, has said he'd like to play the doctor's other arch-rival The Master. |

| That Tom :D Forever publicity hungry. Could it just be that he's a wee bit pi$$ed off that everytime there is a story about Dr Who, the press look to him to comment on it? I haven't seen the press stalking Peter Davison, colin Baker of Sylvester McCoy to comment on the new series. You must admit, it must be pretty damn tiresome after a while...... |
