Title: Season One Spoiler Thread
Description: B5 Veterans Only
Crichton Kicks - September 12, 2004 09:54 AM (GMT)
Let's keep the episode threads and the 'speculation' thread free of spoilers guys. Bear in mind that there'll be a few newbies taking part, as such, any spoiler chit chat we can have here.
NJS - September 19, 2004 03:12 PM (GMT)
As noticed last time I watched this - a huge spoiler in the dialogue itself when Kosh greets Sinclair with "Entusah Valen".
Also something that slighly jars is considering how hard it was to kill Kosh he went down pretty easily from that poison.

You know, I've never noticed that. Something to look out for later when I watch it
I know the 'poison' thing was done to death on the net for a while during the show's run.
I'm sure we all know this, but just to mention Takashima once more; she would originally have been the traitor at the end of the first year. Whether that would have necessitated a new second in command who knows.
Crichton Kicks - September 19, 2004 05:23 PM (GMT)
Couple of interesting things popping up. Can't remember if these were in the original version, but in the TNT SE there's mention of 'dust' and 'stims'. There's also the lengthy 'chat' between Carolyn and Delenn that lets slip that Delenn's been sent to B5 to 'observe' Sinclair.
I'll comment more on the movie itself in the other thread, after footy :)

I always thought there was more to that than they let on, or delved into.
Could that Minbari have been a servant of the shadows (I mean, who would know how to poison a vorlon? Really?)

To be fair though, if anyone would, it would be the Minbari, they did fight the last great war side by side ;)

Yeah, but to be fair, we are the only species who look at our allies and think of ways to kill them :fear:

I didn't know that, as it goes. Kind of renders my comment about her in The Gathering thread a bit redundant!
Crichton Kicks - September 26, 2004 08:33 PM (GMT)
Jack (Garibaldi's Security guy) took over certain elements that would originally have been Takashima's. Certain others were taken over by Talia, ie. being a sleeper.
willowroolz - September 26, 2004 08:36 PM (GMT)
Ah, that makes sense. Mind you, I only wanted her to stay because she's rather attractive :innocent: :whistling:

I couldn't stand her. Her performance in The Gathering, especially towards the beginning was little short of a horror show :fear:
I seem to recall her popping up on 24 as well, although I can't remember how she was in that. Think she had a stint on JAG as well.
willowroolz - September 26, 2004 08:45 PM (GMT)
I must admit she didn't seem as bad as I remembered her when I watched it this time around.
I remember her in the first episode of The Shield, too, and wasn't she in Quantum Leap?
Crichton Kicks - September 26, 2004 08:50 PM (GMT)
Yep, she was definitely in The Shield, but I can't remember Quantum Leap. Given her Japanese heritage, was it The Americanization of Machiko ?? The one with the GI who brings home a Japanese bride ??
willowroolz - September 26, 2004 08:52 PM (GMT)
Just looked it up, the QL episode was Temptation Eyes.

Guess that's just a hint that I should get the upcoming QL DVDs as well

Did someone just say "Quantum Leap rewatch"?
Crichton Kicks - September 26, 2004 09:01 PM (GMT)
Nooooooooooooooo
There's only 9 episodes in Season 1 though and no mention of a second season set over here just yet. Bet we could fit it in, although I'm sure we'll all be Rewatched out by that point
willowroolz - September 26, 2004 09:05 PM (GMT)
Yes, there's only so much you can watch at one time. We should have thought this through and staggered them a bit
Crichton Kicks - September 26, 2004 09:07 PM (GMT)
That would have been the sensible thing to do for sure, but how could we resist the temptation of just going for everything we could possibly watch ??
willowroolz - September 26, 2004 09:09 PM (GMT)
Damn all these companies for bringing out dvds of our favourite shows. It's very inconsiderate of them.
Crichton Kicks - September 26, 2004 09:12 PM (GMT)
Anyone would think they're in it for the money
Phillip Culley - September 30, 2004 10:10 PM (GMT)
The great thing about rewatching B5 again and again is the little things you never notice before, such as Ivanova's comment about Santiago being weak and Clark being powerful - given Clark's scheme to kill Santiago :)
Crichton Kicks - October 1, 2004 09:57 AM (GMT)
I love the way that that whole election was so understated, almost an afterthought, when really, at that point it was equally as important, if not more than the Narn/Centauri political shennanighens that were going on at the same time.
NJS - October 2, 2004 07:53 PM (GMT)
Can someone remind me how/when Adira dies?
I remember her being in Day of the Dead in S5 so when I watched Born to the Purple I had a sneaky feeling she was in for a "just when you thought it was a happy ending" type death.

Interludes & Examinations, albeit offscreen.
Londo's had enough of Morden and his associates, now of the opinion that the Centauri Republic can look after itself. Morden has Adira killed and frames Lord Refa to ensure Londo's continued cooperation.

I remembered late last night that it involved Refa but had forgotten it was a frame up - though Refa probably deserves his fate anyway.

Who would have thought that Gospel Music could be used so effectively in a sci-fi series. :)
Crichton Kicks - October 12, 2004 12:32 AM (GMT)
Just a few things carrying over from the Mind War review.
Does Ironheart 'become' a First One perhaps ?? The Million years thing kind of pans out.
There's incredible foreboding where the Corps are concerned. The whole importance of telepaths as a defence. Needing them to cut through telepathic blocks. The whole Assassination arc is forewarned.
And there's the introduction of Jack.
Interesting episode.

When I heard the million years comment, I did think of 'The Deconstruction of Falling Stars', which showed that in a million years we would become like the Vorlons..

Presumably that being the time where Humanity ascends to First One status.
NJS - October 16, 2004 08:03 PM (GMT)
Okay when Lionheart said "See you in a million years" was he talking to all of them or just Sinclair? :) - and if the latter should he have said "a thousand years ago? :)
I hadn't remembered that line or the "ascension" so that was a pleasant surprise - the biggest shiver down the spine I've ever had watching TV was when the human did a Vorlon at the end of Deconstruction so its interesting to know that there was a shortcut available that just involved drugs
ANother line that will become a classic, though usually a Delenn standard was aired by G'Kar - "There are things in the universe billions of years older than us" :)
When I could see what was going to happen to Catherine I immediately thought we were about to get our first glimpse of a Shadow vehicle but either it was meant to be that and the design was changed or it was something else - another First One?

It works either way I think. The time is the key, a million years into the future. I'd feel comfortable speculating that Ironheart ascended to first one status.

Yep, it was a First One. Ivanova later recruited them to their side against the Vorlons/Shadows in the fourth season episode The Long Night.

I remember that ep (though as usual not with your obsessive accuracy) so - was the Sakai incident referred to or did they head out to Sigma 957 as a starting point?

I believe Lorien led them there to find them. Ivanova may have made some passing reference to Sakai, but not by name I don't think.

The War Prayer
The signs are here in this episode to see what's to come on later on back on Earth. Pro Earth hate groups on the rise, increased numbers and backing, prompting Earth into an eventual iscolationist policy.
It's also a possibility here that Earth is already reaping the benefits of Shadow tech. Whether or not Morden and his 'associates' have made contact with Clark and co is unclear, although I'd tend to guess that he has; we know that they've made contact before the events of Chrysalis at least.
There's also the throwaway line about Centauri arranged marriages coming into tradition 1000 years ago. Ordinarily you'd think nothing of it, but that's an awfully convenient date. Were the Shadows perhaps influencing them at that point, perhaps seeding them for future use ??
And the Sky Full of Stars
Love the newspaper headlines in this one;
One mentioned Psi-Corp and the upcoming elections, the other making reference to Homeguard. Of course, all three of those things were linked.
