Title: E-bay
dr.noah - September 11, 2004 01:31 PM (GMT)
Just thought Id share with the group!
I just got my first 2 items from e-bay!!!! And ofcorse they are Star Trek related-duh!
The first was a limited/collectors edition of Emissary witch includes a 50 minute making of/behind the scenes show hosted by Terry Farrell, which is ok. Includes some short interviews with all the main cast except Avery Brooks....
The other was a copy of The Way Of The Worrior in TV Movie form.
Will prob go back on again to see what else they've got, but will need to wait till after pay day!
:toomuchtv:

Just make sure you don't get duped with any of those Asian Collector's Edition DVDs ;)
Apparently there are chunks of the episodes missing

I nearly bought some of those Asian sets  Being old and cynical however I decided that it was too good to be true. Bloody glad that I did now
I have managed to get TWOK and TSFS SE's at around £8.00each brand new. :D
Smug mode now engaged

Up until about 6 months ago I used eBay constantly, but Amazon Marketplace has come on a bit of late. Although those dodgy Asian SEs pop up there as well.
With regards to the Asian sets, they're marketed as Region 0 collector's editions, I'm pretty sure they're bootleg copies. The official Asian releases won't have chunks of episodes missing, with some episodes it's the whole denouement
I nearly snapped them up a while back, but did a little research beforehand, luckily
I've got TSFS SE for £7 off there though.

Yes, they're CD-Rs. I was after the complete Fox series of Spiderman (Sins of the Fathers, etc) but was put off by the fact they weren't DVDs at all but CDs. Mind you, I haven't completely given it up yet......

To be fair, it depends on the set in question. As an anime fan I've imported a few series from Asia and the quality tends to vary. Some of it's pretty good. I got a set of Legend of the Galactic Heroes and that was fine. On the other hand I got a copy of the original Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (Battle of the Planets over here) and that was awful.
Re the Spiderman series, they've released the 60s version recently, fingers crossed on the Fox version, especially with the franchise being such a hot property at the moment. ;)

Oh er they sound nasty! Before I put in a bid for mine I checked to make sure that they were PAL VHS copies (Even though our video plays NTSC) and that they were UK sourced in the 1st place and the sellers had their details on e-bay.
I have heard some stories about some Asian countries cuting out chunks of movies because their vidoes were a certian length and to fit the movies on to it bits of the film are missing. A classic exmple is Batman. At the end they cut out all of the belltower scene so it apears that Batman gets up there and the Joker just jumps off!
I was looking for cheep Babylon 5 Mark II DVD box sets when I was on, but didnt see any that I thought were cheep enough!!!! But if I remember right there were about 20,000 items on auction that day!!! So I suppose there might have been a few bargins around. Emissary was £2.99 and Way Of The Warrior was £0.01! Not bad? No one else bid for them so got them at the price tey were put on for!

The really annoying ones are the people who list the item and put a photo of the R2 boxset on it. Unless you read the smallprint you'd never know they were the Asian bootlegs before you bought them.

The always delightful and gorgeous Dr Noah wrote that he was looking for the Deep Space 9 dvd boxsets on ebay.
But when the post was put on the board it came up with "Babylon 5 mark 2"!!!!!!
Now who on earth JAMES could have set that up????

You know, that's been there for about a month now. In the interest of fairplay however I've now reset it ;)
Going through the S7 DVD set, my fondness for DS9 has been re-enforced

It was childish and in no way funny whatsoever ;)

I was just reading this thread and I thought I would mention that with a fair amount of time and effort put-in, you can pick up some serious bargains without relying on places like eBay. Which as was mentioned sell an awful lot of dodgy DVDs! If you can spare the time checking the various internet shops and/or using price comparison Websites you would be seriously surprised on some of the bargains available from time to time. Also you can live safely in the knowledge that you're not buying knock off/pirate/copied DVDs from reputable companies.
A few examples of the bargains I've picked up earlier this year include Star Trek the original motion picture director's cut two-disc £4.49 region 2 :D ; Star Trek the wrath of Khan director's cut two-disc £4.49 region 2 :D ; Star Trek generations - the new two-disc special edition including DTS on region 1 around £6 on release :D (released in the UK Dec I think??). All brand new and sealed DVDs.
Having a multi-regional player increases your choices no end but I find its best, if possible, to only buy TV DVD box-set from the UK so you don't have to pay any customs duties. But with movies pick and choose between regions for better versions and more offers. Patience & vigilence is key.
