Title: NID to return in Season 8

An upcoming episode in Stargate SG-1's eighth season will bring the shadowy group behind the rogue N.I.D. operation back to the fore, co-executive producers Paul Mullie and Joseph Mallozzi told GateWorld. "There will be an episode called 'Endgame,' which will involve what I call 'the heist to end all heists,' and deal with those pesky, former rogue N.I.D. operatives," Mallozzi said.
"Endgame" reveals that the individuals behind the rogue N.I.D. operation were not all apprehended when the Committee was taken into custody in Season Six's "Smoke and Mirrors." The newly re-organized group is called "the Trust," and will also have a significant role to play in the Season Eight episode "Covenant" (story). (The group needed a new name, Mallozzi and Mullie explained, because the "rogue N.I.D." haven't actually worked for the N.I.D. for a long time now; and the N.I.D. is now a rehabilitated organization.)
"The Trust is the ex-N.I.D. agents, but it's also the money that's supporting them," Mullie explained. "It's a shadowy international business cabal that's funding these ex-N.I.D. agents. Their agenda is still the same. It's basically: Get alien technology."
The rogue N.I.D. element was first introduced in Season Two's "Touchstone," when SG-1 discovered that a black-ops team was using Earth's second Stargate to steal advanced technology from other worlds. Despite shutting down the program and arresting many of its operatives ("Shades of Grey"), the people behind the illegal program have continued to be a thorn in the side of the S.G.C. ("Chain Reaction," "Smoke and Mirrors").
"It's really interesting," Mallozzi said. "This episode is going to touch on elements from tons of previous episodes: all the N.I.D. episodes, 'Chimera,' and Season Five's two-parter, 'Summit' and 'Last Stand.'" |
Sounds quite interesting. The NID thread has always been one of my favourite parts of SG1. Long may it continue :)

Looking at this, it's interesting how of the 8 titles announced for Season 8, 3 of them have been taken from Trek episodes (and two of them 'finales' in their own right!)

Of course ENDGAME was used by B5 before Trek got it's hands on the title ;)
Interesting though, hadn't noticed that myself :)

Oh, I just remember useless crap like that - which is how I caught out whats his name (the new guy - George I think) with that Voyager episode title :)
Of course, I''ll never remember anything useful, such as the stuff for this exam on Monday! :)
Crichton Kicks - May 8, 2004 09:58 PM (GMT)
Well I'm useless with Voyager titles, as I missed most of the later ones, I'd stopped caring by that point :)

Yeah, but Prime Factors was season 1 :P

hey I remembered that one. I was just making sure :)

I'll let you off, since it's Voyager :)

I think I'll have to go back and view season one again. As I recall, the first season was actually quite good, especially compared with other Trek first seasons. Didn't like Faces at all though :(

Personally I never really had a major problem with Voyager until about the end of Season 4 - perhaps slightly later.
Wasn't it Season 5 when Braga joined - taking over Jeri Taylor? It would explain an awful lot :)

This poses an interesting question that I've not really thought about for a while. When exactly did Voyager go rubbish. Agreed it's not the first two seasons at least, probably not the third either. Got a feeling it may have been the fourth. I'll have to have a scan through an episode guide on this one.

You know, we should really move this thread to the Trek forum - seems we've deviated wildly from the original topic :D
Crichton Kicks - May 8, 2004 10:17 PM (GMT)
Hmmm, this might be true :)
It's definitely season 4 btw. It was that YoH and TKG 2-parters that turned me, couldn't stand either of them :(

Then I think it's season 5 for me, as I quite liked them :)
While there were some good episodes in the later seasons (Bride of Chaotica, Tinker Tenor..., Pathfinder and so on), I think this season was where it started to turn into the Doctor and Seven show, especially with episodes like 'Someone to Watch Over Me', which, although a good episode, heralded the beginning of the end...
That and adding cute kids like Naomi and the bleeding Borg kids :)
Crichton Kicks - May 9, 2004 03:27 PM (GMT)
I agree.
Odd, that an episode I love proved to spell the beginning fo the end ;)
Season 4 though had two2-parters I didn't particularly like, as well as the new trend of "how to emasculate and make impotent the Borg this week".
Phillip Culley - May 10, 2004 12:09 AM (GMT)
To be fair though, the Borg were still a threat in Season 4 - they were only really included in 'Scorpion II' and 'Hope and Fear', and in those two episodes they were still treated as a serious threat.
It wasn't till 'Dark Frontier' that they became another 'easily-defeated alien'.
Also, to be fair, I think you are in the minority when it comes to disliking Year of Hell and Killing Game :)
Crichton Kicks - May 10, 2004 12:23 AM (GMT)
I'll happily agree that I'm in the minority on that one Phillip. Especially it would seem with regards to YoH, I've just never liked it, but can understand that most other people do. I get my own back by holding 11:59 in high regard where apparently no one else does
I think as far as the Borg go, there's the certain argument that the Borg were on a hiding to nothing as soon as they introduced Species 8472. The unbeatable enemy got beat big time. A slight difference to their single cube defeats they'd suffered at the hands of the Federation. I would agree though, DARK FRONTIER is an awful 2-parter. HOPE AND FEAR is another good example of why I don't care much for season 4 though, as season finales go that one was quite poor.
