Title: Season 4 ??
Crichton Kicks - May 8, 2004 01:45 PM (GMT)
Interesting comments from Berman in today's Trektoday article;
........................................................................................................................
"I am confident [...] that we are going to get a season 4 from UPN,"
Berman and his writing staff have already begun planning for season four. The producer said the the final episode, "Zero Hour" will set up a "mini-arc" for the beginning of the new season, but added, "If I tell you more right now, I will give away the ending of the season."
He continued: "My feeling is that Enterprise will probably not go back to the first and second season job of simple exploration of space. I think there will be missions, but not missions that are anywhere as lengthy as what we have done with this 25-episode Xindi arc. I think that we will probably be dealing more with smaller arcs, maybe arcs of three, four or five shows. We see season four being as different from season three as season three was from season two."

Given the relative success of the Xindi arc this time around, I just wonder if the smaller arcs issue is a bit of a backwards step. Just have to wait and see I guess ;)

Given how Berman's "confident" of everything, I have just as little faith in this as anything he says :)

He's probably trying to entrench himself. Popular rumour had Season 4 been greenlit but without Berman. Now surely there's the best of both worlds :)
Not too sure about this small arcs thing though.

Makes it sound like its turning into something like DR WHO used to be with serialised stories within the season???????????????????????????????????
Why not do another long arc this time with the creation of the federation that ARCHER now knows about and the battle with the romulans?????????????????

The Founding of the Federation per se is a little early yet. Chronologically the Federation isn't founded until what would be Enterprise's 8th or 9th season. That date would also end the Romulan war. What they could do however is start things off, and then possibly conclude both in an Enterprise movie, either TVM or large screen. Or, they could just get rid of the one season = one year thing.
Either way, yes, they should now involve the groundwork for the Federation as well as introducing the Romulans.
Sadly, the last comment by either of the trained monkeys was when Braga stated that "we don't want to do Romulans, you've seen them all before...."
Right, not unlike the Ferengi, or even worse the Borg !!!

To be fair though, I get the feeling they're trying to stray away from the 1 season = 1 year aspect they've had in the past (this possibly explains why they're using Earthdates instead of Stardates).
After all, I get the feeling that several months have taken place during and between 'The Expanse' and 'The Xindi', so it's possible that they might just squeeze the Federation founding in at the end of the (originally planned) final season.
However, these cancellation threats are doing no-one any favours - I wonder if they're going to suddenly set Season 4 'a few years' after Season 3 :)

Doubtful. Season 4 starts (supposedly) with the Enterprise heading back to Earth in the wake of the Xindi arc being resolved. I think you're probably right though with the 1 season = 1 year thing though, wasn't it also supposed to take Enterprise a while to actually get to the Expanse as well ?? Which equated to about 2 minutes of screentime :)
Berman and Braga just don't have a clue as to what people want.
Tell people that it's going to feature the Romulan war, tell them that it's all about the Founding of the Federation. You'd have people tuning back in droves I'm sure.

A pity that we can see this so clearly whereas it never crosses either Berman or Braga's mind :(
