Title: The Big Rewatch
Crichton Kicks - September 5, 2004 09:37 PM (GMT)
So, shall we set a date for this ?? And do we start with Midnight on the Firing Line, or The Gathering ??
Phillip, when's the earliest you can start ??
ken1701e - September 5, 2004 09:55 PM (GMT)
How do you fit all these rewatches in?
Phillip Culley - September 5, 2004 10:06 PM (GMT)
I'm back on the 23rd, so how about the week starting the 25th?
Alternatively, as I have The Gathering on DVD here with me, we could do that the week beginning the 18th, and then begin properly with Midnight and Soul Hunter on the 25th?
Then of course we have the question of whether it's the redone version of TG which is apparently on the DVD, or the original edit which was on the videos :)
Crichton Kicks - September 5, 2004 10:14 PM (GMT)
I think we go with the week commencing the 18th for The Gathering then, and then kick in with the series proper the following week.
With regards to which version, I've got the DVD version so I'll be watching that, but either's fine, we can outline the differences I'm sure ;)
Next question then, what frequency do you guys want to watch the episodes at ?? 2 per week like the Farscape rewatch ?? More/less ??

Poorly, if my Farscape watching's anything to go by. However, for the TOS and B5 ones I'll be taking extra care not to fall behind ;)
So will you be taking part in the rewatch then Ken ??
goth willow fan - September 5, 2004 10:33 PM (GMT)
I hope my Movie set arrives soon! It was sent out at least a week ago
Not that it will affect a rewatch as I have the TG/ITB double header disc anyway (and also the tape come to that although it's a bit difficult playing that without a VHS machine) :) but I would like to hear the commentary.

Where did you get it from Paul ??
I've got The Gathering on the TG/ITB set as well. That, and the 2 different VHS releases.

I've toyed with the idea of using them myself a few times but never have. Loaded are the agents aren't they ?? Not the actual distributors. Always seemed like an odd arrangement to me.

and the post is awful in this area :(
willowroolz - September 5, 2004 10:46 PM (GMT)
My movie box set was despatched on Friday and should take 5 - 10 days to arrive, depending on customs. I'll join in at that point. Can we keep it to 2 episodes a week? I've got so many rewatches going on already. :)

Customs interference usually means customs charges :(
You might want to check out

I think 2 per week is the popular trend. Besides it may free up some time for the Farscape rewatch that I one day intend resuming

Probably is ;)
On the Customs front though, I noticed that despite the warning about possibly having to pay import duties, I didn't for either the Firefly or Jeremiah boxsets I got at the turn of the year.
willowroolz - September 5, 2004 11:08 PM (GMT)
The last two reg 1 box sets I've ordered from amazon.com have been shipped from Germany and avoided any customs problems. I hope they'll do the same with this set.

I think most of them are figuring ways around the old import problem now. Which is good

Well, if there are any requests for the R1 movie set, let me know and I'll see what I can do :)

For me as well, it must have been a good 6 months
actually it's a good 18 months ago now since I converted the wife
Orac - September 12, 2004 11:49 AM (GMT)
It must be about 18 months or so for me. Occasionally I'll watch "Sleeping in Light" and have a good bawl :D, but I've been meaning to revisit the series again for a while.
I'm curious to see what new insights I pick up this time around. ;)
Crichton Kicks - September 12, 2004 12:19 PM (GMT)
I have a spine of episodes I tend to go back over from time to time;
Signs & Portents, Babylon Squared, The Coming of Shadows, War Without End, Severed Dreams, Into the Fire, Endgame and Sleeping in Light.
I think I've been through the entire series 4 or 5 times now, and you end up picking new things up each time you go through it. There's also a lot to be said for going through it with newbies as well, fresh perspective and all that.
Orac - September 12, 2004 09:32 PM (GMT)
I'm almost envious of people discovering the show for the first time. :D It's great to see people getting into it, seeing it all unfold, and being blown away by how well all the pieces fit together. Every time I see it I find something new...one of the most impressive things about Babylon 5.

Next week (w/b 19-9) we're watching The Gathering (for those who have it), and then the week after (w/b 26-9) we're going on to Season 1, episodes 1 and 2 :)

Can't argue with that Orac. I've introduced a few people to the series, seeing the wonder in their statements is quite nostalgic in it's own way :)

Plenty of time for your S1 set to arrive Ken ;)
Besides, you've already seen The Gathering recently haven't you Ken ?? Will you be rewatching or posting from memory ??

I've also got to decide whether to watch it again, or just post from the memory of seeing it about 2 months ago, I think. I guess I should really watch it afresh.
goth willow fan - September 12, 2004 11:15 PM (GMT)
It's really worth having it fresh in the memory for the start of the series.

Just tried out the bbcode extension thingie with the right click menu. Its definitely preferable to how it was before anyway. :D

You know if I like the series, I'm gonna find it very difficult to keep to just 2 episodes a week. I'm generally fine if it's a rewatch, but with something new? Well...as you may have gathered from my viewing of Alias S3, DLM and Wonderfalls, I tend to speed through seasons in a matter of days. :D
Orac - September 13, 2004 12:46 AM (GMT)
Warning: The show can be quite addictive. :D

 I think twice through in a matter of months (years?) might be a little much, but I suppose I could charge ahead, as long as I make notes along the way. :D

Yeah, I think the best bet would be for us all just to rewatch it, that being the point I guess. Even though I've seen it more times than I can recall

Just bear in mind what Orac said. Not only is it very, very addictive, but it'll take you 2 or 3 viewings before you start getting all the little things in the show. As we said earlier, you'll find something new pretty much everytime you see it ;)

Well, I reckon I'll be deleting them as I watch them (to save on space), but if I like it, I'm sure I'll be purchasing the dvds at some point. :)
Crichton Kicks - September 13, 2004 08:52 AM (GMT)
Well, I'm sure you'll want to see them in all their DVD glory if you like 'em
Actually, that's a good point; a word of warning for those newbies following us via DVD, whatever you do, do not, repeat not, listen to the audio commentaries, and you may want to steer clear of the other extras until you've finished the season in question. They have a penchant for spoilers I'm afraid  Although nothing quite so bad as the Roswell S2 set; in the booklet with that you get episode synopses of all the episodes, only brief, but just so you know what the episodes about. One of the mysteries of late season 2 was who killed Alex; que synopsis for the season finale "The gang discover that XXX killed Alex........"
