Title: Voyager DVD set

ken1701e - May 7, 2004 11:10 PM (GMT)
Can anyone tell me why the advert for the first series box set of Voyager has Jeri Ryan on it or indeed why the box itself has????

Crichton Kicks - May 7, 2004 11:31 PM (GMT)
Pretty much for the same reason they introduced her into the show in the first place Ken, to get people's buy-in :)

To be honest I hadn't noticed that, bit of a faux pas no ??

Do they actually tell you on the packaging that you only get 16 episodes from the first season ??

Phillip Culley - May 8, 2004 12:21 AM (GMT)
What's stranger is that it's a newly-made montage since Janeway has the 'bun of steel', which had gone by the time Seven turned up...

Crichton Kicks - May 8, 2004 12:26 AM (GMT)
Perhaps they're pulling a "Trials & Tribblations" on us and they've now digitally inserted Jeri Ryan/Seven into the first few seasons as well :D

That and they've inserted some dialogue for Harry and a bit of plot for Chakotay. Ok, I know, now we're getting silly

And you know if Braga saw that suggestion, he's probably make sure it's done :)

Braga, Ryan, insertion. Probably the stuff of his dreams ;)

Actually, weren't they linked in that way at one point during the series ??

I thought they still were - I know she was his girlfriend during the last season of Voyager - so why he approved the Chakotay/Seven romance I have no idea, unless he's still nostalgic for the days the closest he'd get to sex is watching others, not unlike some people I could mention :)

No idea whether they still are - perhaps he dumped her and is now trying for Blalock :)

Crichton Kicks - May 8, 2004 06:11 PM (GMT)
Tsk tsk tsk, I thought I was the one who insults Carl ;)

They may well be for all I know. Odd, surely she can do better.....

As for the Chakotay/Seven romance, I think they just came to the realisation towards the end of season 7 that, "Holy Crap !! We've never give Chakotay anything to do.....", still better than poor old Harry. The only time he got things to do were when someone needed to be kidnapped, or worse still, given the intergalactic clap ;)

That's true - I'm his new friend :)

Peronally I think Beltran had some revealing photos of Braga, so they gave him the 7 romance to shut him up - it's one thing to give him a larger role in an episode - and another to get him to snog your girlfriend :)

Crichton Kicks - May 8, 2004 09:56 PM (GMT)
Aren't you one of his cited supporters ?? ;)

I'll never forget the Rob Beltran Rant Generator. Sure I've still got it in my favourites somewhere :)

Here we are :)

Phillip Culley - May 8, 2004 09:58 PM (GMT)
Yaye - firsttvdrama :D

I'm a bit disapointed with them though - in the last few months they've fallen behind in their episode reviewing/destroying :)

Crichton Kicks - May 8, 2004 10:01 PM (GMT)
I haven't been there for a while, so there's probably new ones there for me to scan :)

I think the last time I checked they were about 4 or 5 off the end of season 2. Are there new ones past that ?

Phillip Culley - May 8, 2004 10:03 PM (GMT)
Oh, a fair few - they've done everything up to Similtude, and after that I think it's Chosen Realm, Stratagem and Azati Prime :)

Edited to add: Oooh - post 100! :D

Crichton Kicks - May 8, 2004 10:04 PM (GMT)
Ah, on the issue of post counts, I need to get Mr Bester up to about 450 as quickly as possible on the Beeb boards.

Phillip Culley - May 8, 2004 10:12 PM (GMT)
Ah - the plot thickens :)

Crichton Kicks - May 8, 2004 10:15 PM (GMT)
Well since Mr kelly had to hand out a lesson in irony to the Whovians over on the Beeb boards, it would appear that his posts now go through Pre-Mod mode, meaning that it's unlikely when the time comes that he'll be useful in my plans for Carl's lesson :)

Bester's now come back into play.

Phillip Culley - May 8, 2004 10:24 PM (GMT)
Ah - obviously someone was whinging :)

So how many alter egos are there :)

Crichton Kicks - May 8, 2004 10:25 PM (GMT)
Just the two. I tend to have one on the go at all times. They come in handy when you want to tell someone to f*%k off but don't want to risk being banned :)

Seeing as Mr Kelly's now pretty ineffective, Bester's back in the game ;)

I'm kinda tempted by the Voyage box set, I must admit. It's one of those series I feel I didn't pay enough attention to when it was on. I'd lost interest in Star Trek at the time cos DS9 bored me rigid.

Heathen !!! :o

Blasphemer

To be fair, if you're going to get any of the Voyager sets, then either seasons 1 or 2 are the ones to get :)

I stopped regularly watching DS9 after about the 4th season, had piles of episodes taped which I never caught up on, so in the end I just gave up. When the dvds started coming out I went and bought the first season - I'd heard so many people rave about the latter seasons that I thought I should give it a second chance.

I got that box-set the day it came out. To date I have watched precisely one episode ("Duet" - it was always my favourite). And I haven't bought any further sets. Apart from anything else I don't have room on my shelves (which is part of the reason I haven't rushed out and bought Voyager). <_<

I know - I'm a heathen. I'm bad, bad, bad!

Given Paramount's extortionate pricing and the fact that I've got all of DS9 on the VHS releases I've only got one season on DVD myself, season 2. To this point, and I've had it since it came out too, I've seen the first three episode arc and the final episode, the cliffhanger The Jem'Hadar.

DS9 is a great series. The early episodes are relatively weak in that they're not a patch on the latter seasons (especially season 1), but they're important in their own way in that they begin to form the characters and their relationships at that early point. So much so that by the time that you get to the important arcs later down the line in the fourth season onwards, then the plot means so much more because the characters and their dynamics are so well-rounded.

DS9 demands attention and committment. If you give it that kind of focus then you can't really help but love the show.

You're really trying hard to part my cash from me, aren't you? Are Paramount paying you royalties?!!

Hey, DS9 sells itself ;)
