Part 3 of the trilogy

This is a very good episode, but I do think there are some problems with it. David Kemper freely admits that Look At The Princess was originally intended to be a two-parter but that he felt he had such a set of riches in store that expanding it to three parts was a logical step.

For me, that decision makes this third part feel a little stretched, particularly with regard to the Aeryn/Dregon subplot, which only really serves to emphasise her inability to deal with her feelings for John.

And when Empress Novia shuts down the city and threatens to kill all offworlders until they find out who beheaded Crichton's statue why didn't they just ask Katralla's statue? She can see and hear everything, after all.

In typical Farscape style the story's main issue is dealt with almost immediately, although not before it has been made even worse: as previously mentioned, Scarran emissary Cargn beheads Crichton's statue and allows Prince Clavor to dump said head into a vat of acid. Fortunately for Crichton, Scorpius is is able to track him having taken a sample of his DNA whilst he was in the Aurora Chair. Unfortunately for Scorpy, he walks right into someone else's trap.

Jenavian reconstitutes Crichton and takes him out of the city to interrogate him and, latterly, allow him to recuperate. She has her own mission, after all, and believes that Crichton may be working against her. He convinces her otherwise and they end up sleeping together (and she suddenly looks very sexy - when did that happen? ). You have to assume that he does this because he feels so rejected by Aeryn, yet there is an unwelcome element of the "Captain Kirk Syndrome" about it.

Scorpius: You underestimate the strength of a relationship even your friend does not yet understand.

Scorpy, meanwhile, attempts to form an alliance with D'Argo and once again offers to return Crichton to Moya unharmed once he has got the wormhole information out of the human's brain. Once they are interrupted by Cargn and D'Argo is overpowered by the Scarran's heat attack (and has surprisingly turned his enemy's attention on Chiana), Scorpius shows his duplicitous nature by immediately trying to form an alliance with the Scarran. But Cargn, and - by assumption - all Scarrans, regards Scorpius as a "biological mistake".

Various events occur in quick succession: Cargn captures Chiana, kills Clavor, and leads Scorpius and D'Argo back to the acid chamber, where - in true Saturday Matinee style - he suspends Chiana perilously over the liquid.

Yet again the look of this episode is amazing. The acid chamber looks fantastic and there are nice contrasts set up between that, the palace interiors and the barren lands. The action is dramatic and well handled.

John: I'm not your enemy, I'm not your friend. You leave me the hell alone or the next time we part one of us will be dead.

As Crichton threatens to throw Scorpy into the acid he is once again assaulted by images of the Aurora Chair and backs off. Once he leaves, Scorpy dusts himself off and quite happily dips his hand into the acid. He was never in any danger. What on Earth is going on here...?

Everything is wrapped up nicely. It turns out that Kahaynu was not punishing Moya and Pilot, but testing those who live aboard her - in this case Zhaan. It is interesting that The Builders judge her to have passed the test even though she has just tried to murder Kahaynu, although they cover this by applauding her attempt to protect and save the Leviathan.

John and D'Argo are drawn even closer together when Crichton has to forsake any chance of seeing his child, who is being carried by a craftily impregnated Katralla. Having once again been given the opportunity to see his baby, Crichton passes the responsibility on to Counsellor Tyno, which somewhat predictably solves that little conundrum, telling him "You take care of my little girl".

But I couldn't end anywhere else but in saying this:

How wonderfully acted and beautifully written and directed is that final scene? If it doesn't bring a tear to your eye then you must have a heart of stone.

Simply perfect. <sniff>

I think the beginning of this episode is rather rushed. One second D'Argo and Chi are saying goodbye, then the next John is having his head dramatically removed. The D'argo/Chi bit seems to end rather too abruptly. And furthering from Steve's thought of just asking Katralla what had happened, surely they would have had some record of who went in and out of that room, if not having direct camera access inside it.

Why did John's head float in the acid? It was supposedly made of bronze, not cork <_<

Everything just seemed....a little too convenient this episode. Everything wrapped up too nicely. When did D'Argo learn to fly? Cos thats what it looked like he did to rescue Chi, though John's line there was a classic :D (How Batman was that)

I'm sure this trilogy must have been one of Ben Browders favourites. Just how many women did he get to......., erm kiss?

Confession time - that last scene between John and Aeryn? Love it ;)
Hmmm, was the kiss sweet? I think their satisfied smiles say it all
Yes, I cried. But only a little :D

Alternative ending to Moya subplot.....

Zhaan: You live.

Kahaynu: As does Moya.

Zhaan: What kind of repellent game is this?

Kahaynu: We are talking Jape of the Decade. We are talking April, May, June, July, and August Fool. Yes, that's right -- I am Queeg.

:lmao: :lmao: Sorry. Wrong show.

Never thought of that !!

I found this one to be alright. Nothing brilliant, but better than average. The PK?Scarran thing seems to have been avoided, for now. John gets his head back, and all's well that ends well, maybe. You get the distinct impression that Crichton would have been a lot better off killing Scorpius when he had the chance

As far as this particular trilogy goes, I've enjoyed it. It's certainly kickstarted what has been thus far, IMO, a lacklustre, or inconsistent start to the second season.

You know I could answer that but there would be spoilers ;)

I love this trilogy, its not the best one that is yet to come but I quite often find myself just watching it as a stand alone - just the three eps, very entertaining

Still, it'll be great for you to see it as it was meant, James. Just wait till you see Won't Get Fooled Again

Well, as I watched My Three Crichtons before the trilogy, and with me watching Beware The Dog earlier, I'll be posting my comments about the latter and then toddling off to watch that one Steve
