Title: 2.10 Look At The Princess Part 1
Description: A Kiss Is But A Kiss
willowroolz - August 25, 2004 08:32 AM (GMT)
It's coronation time at a breakaway Sebacean colony and the event's festivities draw John into a web of intrigue...
Meanwhile Moya, Pilot, and Zhaan are following an elusive trail to an unexpected outcome.
willowroolz - August 28, 2004 05:01 PM (GMT)
John: Humans don't live as long as Sebaceans or Hynerians or Delvians. When I get back everyone - my dad, DK, my sisters, Cameron Diaz, Buffy the Vampire Slayer - will be dead.
D'Argo: Well you may never see these people again anyway.
John: Hope, D'Argo. It's what keeps you going. You're going to see your son. I'm going to go home. Hope. I have hope or I'm nothing.
Hey, Crichton's a Buffy fan! According to Scott Andrews' Uncharted Territories, the events of Farscape's Premiere would have taken place during Buffy's third season. Personally, that would piss me off more than anything else. Imagine not being able to find out what happened with the Mayor or Faith. Doesn't bear thinking about...
Anyway, this is an excellent episode from the pen of producer David Kemper, whose understanding of the characters and ability to come up with situations ripe with high drama is almost second to none. It is the episode which brings Scorpius back into the fray, and simultaneously allows us our first view of the Scarrans. It toys with our emotions with regard to John and Aeryn's relationship, lets us see maybe a little too much of what D'Argo and Chiana have been getting up to, proves that both Pip and Rygel are possibly the most perceptive members of the crew, and puts John between a rock and a hard place. And this is only part one of three!
John: He's in my head, back of my mind, corner of my eye. He scares me Aeryn, I can't shake him.
The moment when Scorpius walks into the room and Crichton flashes back to the events of Nerve and The Hidden Memory nails me to the chair every time I see it. It's easy to forget that this is the first time they have come face to face since then. It won't be the last time.
The idea of having to spend 80 cycles as a statue is bizarre and a little daft. There must be easier ways of preserving and preparing them for leadership. But every society has traditions, I suppose. I doubt Crichton, having been snogged seven ways to Sunday, expected his amusing aside "I am never leaving this planet!" to be taken quite so literally.
Aeryn's confused state of mind in this episode is easy to understand. She doesn't want to be pressured into something that may have adverse effects on a small crew. But it is obvious that she does want to be with Crichton in her reactions to everything that happens here, especially after the marriage is announced.
John: I need you there. Aeryn, don't you think that there are things to say?
Aeryn: At this point what else can we say except good-bye.
The other interesting subplot that the episode throws into the mix involves Moya finding her way to The Builders, the race responsible for building the Leviathans and whom she considers to be gods. There is only a tantalising teaser here, which will be followed up.
Overall, what this episode does is to begin to expand the Farscape universe. It throws in a new enemy, and one that is an adversary to the Peacekeepers at that, with hints of political intrigue and manoeuvering that will become increasingly more important as the series progresses. It also shows that the producers have become confident enough to take on a three part story - and not for the last time.
Oh, and love the Aeryn/Rygel kiss! :lmao:
Great stuff.

S'Okay - I just decided to put all three parts of Look At The Princess up cos I figured the cliffhangers might make people want to watch all three in quick succession ;)
I'm thoughtful like that
goth willow fan - August 31, 2004 10:14 PM (GMT)
Just watched all three parts
Um.. can't think of anything to say though

Where's the audience gone?! It's not supposed to dwindle until season 4 <panic>  ;)
No, I do have a life, honestly...
Persephone - September 4, 2004 12:07 PM (GMT)
I have watched them Steve, honest. :innocent:
But I made a big mistake of having David watch it with me , so constant questions, Red Dwarf comparisons (? :o ) aside, I'll have to rewatch before I do a review
willowroolz - September 4, 2004 12:08 PM (GMT)
Red Dwarf comparisons?
That's a new one!
melian - September 4, 2004 03:27 PM (GMT)
Sorry guys. I'm really behind.

I have to restrain myself from buying tshirts at gigs, I have far too many as it is! These days I seem to buy things like tour exclusive cd's and such.
willowroolz - September 6, 2004 02:12 PM (GMT)
I pulled out all my old Rush t-shirts last night to find one to wear for the first night. They're all from 1983 and 1988 and 1992. None of them fit me. So I think some new ones are in order

Why do 'The Builders' have a welsh accent
Crichton Kicks - January 21, 2005 11:30 PM (GMT)
Just watched the first part. Interesting, very interesting.
This has the feel of a pretty important episode, what with the return of Scorpius, Moya going after The Builders, and a first glimpse of the Scarrans.
Not much to say at this point really. It works to set up the rest of the trilogy, and proves to be a decent story in itself.

 There are two fantastic trilogys in this season - enjoy

I watched the look at the Princess trilogy this weekend along with the Empire strikes Back but I'm finding it hard to try and find some comments to make.
Willowroolz, maybe Crichton only saw up to the end of season 2 of Buffy? After all some of the farscape project took place in Australia who were behind the US. So perhaps he doesn't even know about Faith and the mayor!
I was just about to take a look at everybody's comments on the second and third part of the Princess trilogy(for inspiration) and there isn't a thread started yet. :(

There are threads for every s2 episode. Try changing the option at the bottom right of the screen from "the last 30 days" to "from the beginning" ;)

I forgot this Chi quote from the beginning of the ep
"CHIANA: Go fast with the body slow with the soul. Maybe you should find someone like that."
willowroolz - January 25, 2005 11:59 AM (GMT)
 Well if she said that to me I'd have to go along, just out of curiosity of course :ph43r:

Also the fabulous opening between John and Aeryn in this episode where Aeryn finally softens towards John
| QUOTE |
AERYN: Wh-what?
JOHN: It's your hair. It smells.
AERYN: Zhaan gave me something.
JOHN: All right. It smells good. I like it.
AERYN: Well, it's not for you to like.
JOHN: Oh. Then what's it for?
AERYN: For me to like.
JOHN: You don't like that... I like it?
AERYN: Personal indulgences can fracture a small crew.
JOHN: I would never tell them that you scented your hair.
|
A lovely intimate scene and then Aeryn pulls away not yet ready for a relationship.
| QUOTE |
AERYN: I will not be a slave to your hormones!
JOHN: My hormones?! Hey, I was lips, you were tongue! |
Its no wonder John's head is all over the place
willowroolz - January 25, 2005 12:07 PM (GMT)
A woman messing with a bloke's head... go figure
I've always been a bit confused about Zhaan giving Aeryn something to scent her hair
