Title: 2.09 Out Of Their Minds
willowroolz - August 25, 2004 08:19 AM (GMT)
Moya has been targeted by an alien ship and the crew is trying to rejuvenate the defence screen. Zhaan has gone over to the Halosian ship, which is badly damaged, to try and stop them from firing. She is confronted by a bird-like creature who says that his ship was attacked by Talyn...

"By the Hynerian gods, I'm not me!"
For my money there has never been another series that does this kind of inspired lunacy as well as Farscape. The body swap routine is an old cliche in sf tv, right back to the days of the original Star Trek and beyond, but it's never been done in quite this fashion.
The episode might not have the dark edge that accompanied the humour in Crackers Don't Matter, or the hyper-cool, Tarantino-esque super-slick editing of season 3 masterpiece Scratch 'n' Sniff, and the hook that the whole personality transfer is hung on is very slim, to say the least, but it more than makes up for it by letting the cast have so much fun impersonating each other.
John in Aeryn: Oh c'mon man! They're here. They're right here. They've been here for a couple of arns and I just had to…
Aeryn in Rygel: You are mentally damaged.
John in Aeryn: No, I'm a guy. A guy. Guys dream about this sort of thing.
Aeryn in Rygel: I'll tell you one thing Crichton. If I find you've been dreaming anything else in my body I'll break your legs, even if they are mine.
And not only that, but they actually play out the scenarios that other series wouldn't dare, such as having Crichton in Aeryn's body having a bit of a feel around, or Rygel in Crichton's body discovering that he really should put things away properly before zipping. Yes, it's juvenile. But it's very, very funny.
Aeryn in Rygel: What are you up to Rygel?
Rygel in John: Nothing. And my own body shouldn't be suspicious of me - so rack off!
As I said, the most fun to be had in the episode is watching each actor play the others' characters. Tony Simcoe does an absolutely hilarious Chiana, right down to posture, and his scene with Rygel/John in the corridor is very well done, if a little disturbing. And Gigi Edgley's Pilot is almost spot on.
D'Argo in Pilot: I'm beginning to understand. The glimpses I get of what you experience Pilot, they make my own life feel insignificant.
Pilot in Chiana: That's not true D'Argo.
D'Argo in Pilot: Indeed it is. I have memories of a son, of a wife, but you have seen the galaxies and the birth of stars.
Pilot in Chiana: But I have no memories of love or friendship, none. You have the remarkable memories, D'Argo.
But it's Ben Browder and Claudia Black who have the most fun, firstly in impersonating each other, but mostly when they each get a turn at being Rygel. In fact, through them, Rygel is the real star of this episode. He gets all the best lines and winds up in the most critical situations. Browder has him nailed, completely, but if anything Black manages to upstage him with some of the funniest dialogue towards the end.
John in Rygel: Yeah, Zhaan wants to hear it from you. She won't listen to Rygel.
Rygel in Aeryn: I told you. You all say I'm paranoid, but it's frelling true: no-one ever listens to me.
John in Rygel: Can it fur ball.
Rygel in Aeryn: Great, now I'm getting yotz from my own body.
What else does this episode have? Well, if anyone didn't understand the "Gelfling" reference, it's just that the Halosians remind me so much of the Skeksis from The Dark Crystal. It's almost as though they wheeled those very puppets out of the Henson Creature Shop and put them back in use.
Also, creeping, evil vomit. I've always thought vomit was evil. This just proves it. As usual, Farscape revels in bodily functions. A point that the burgeoning relationship between Chiana and D'Argo has obviously reached, too.
And, most importantly, our first glimpse of Crais and Talyn for a while. And Talyn is becoming bigger and more deadly. Ominous.
To be honest, this episode has so many brilliant one liners that I may just as well have filled the whole review with quotes. I know - I almost have. But it's the brilliant, effortless dialogue that the writers seem to constantly conjure that elevates this episode above the norm.
Rygel: Oh, yes I'm back too, thanks for asking. Back to being me, back to being ignored.
Poor Rygel!
Priceless.

Ah yes, the bodyswap ep
As Steve says the reasons for the swaps occuring may be verging on the CPD but that didn't really matter.
One thing I don't get, why would they send Zhaan over in a shuttle to a ship that has Moya targetted with weapon systems, why not just starburst?
The actors obviosly had great fun playing each others characters, the standouts being BB and CC. Favourite scene has to be John in Aeryn "jiggling"
Also LMAO at the mad rush at the end to do a bit more "exploring" by D'Argo & Chi and John & Aeryn.
Rygels character came across really well, great kudos to all that played him in the ep, I actually felt sympathy for Sparky when there was concrete proof that everyone ignored him most of the time.
I thought those aliens looked kinda familiar, I hadn't got the Dark Crystal connection though :)
Oh yes, it was good to get an update on Crais and Talyn.

I'm too tired to do a proper review tonight, but I totally get the Dark Crystal ref, my kids love that film............a bit of the hideous creature from Jeepers Creepers too.
LOL at the whole episode
Will write more tomorrow :)

Ok. I love, love, love this episode!!
Too many fab bits to mention, but I’ll try ;)
Body-swapping has been done before, but not quite like this. If, by the end of this episode, you aren't laughing so hard that you're crying, you have no soul :o
LOL about the DRD doubling as a Polaroid camera!! Bet you didn’t know they could do that :D
And this episode contains one of my all time fav Farscape quotes…
John : Have we sent the "don't shoot us, we're pathetic" transmission yet?
Honorable mentions to.......
Chiana (D'Argo's body) : Face the wall and spread your feathers, big guy!
Disturbing much?
Rygel (Johns body) : Yotz. Creeping vomit.
Chi (D’Argos body) : How the...how the bizdec did it do that?
BTW – What the frell is Bizdec?
John : Well, they say you have to walk a mile in someone else's shoes to really understand them.
Aeryn : Well, I certainly know what you were doing when you were in my shoes, Crichton.
John : Gimme a break.
Aeryn : It's okay...it's okay, you know? You were in my shoes, I was in your pants...
John: Excuse me?!
Too cute
Hilarious and disturbing in equal measure (Pip in D’Argo anyone?), an episode of pure class

I have to admit when I realised this was a body-swap episode, there was an amount of
But, to echo a sentiment of Steve's, this isn't your typical body-swap episode. It's quite clear that everyone concerned has a blast acting outside their normal roles. I thoroughly enjoyed the episode for that one reason alone. In fact, the rest of the plot is merely a vehicle if you will to get the situation in place. Setting the stage for their antics throughout the episode.
We also get the return of Talyn/Crais which gets a
A lot better than I originally expected this one, and top marks for the acting.

 I love this one its hilarious and I think I will watch it again so I can do a proper review of it.
Farscape humour at its best

Not a great episode but very funny in particular...
Chiana (D'Argo's body) : Face the wall and spread your feathers, big guy!
the one I found disturbing was Chiana in D'argo's body trying to seduce Rygel in Crichton's body into leaving the ship!
I thought the scene with Rygel in Crichton's body taking a pee in the maintenance bay was excellent as well but for pure laugh out loud moments nothing beats "Face the wall and spread your feathers, big guy!"
I didn't think that a lot of the impressions were that good of the other characters with the exception of Chiana In D'argo. Anthony Simcoe's( spelling?) performance was excellent.
