Title: Season 3

So I'm on to season 3 now. I really enjoyed season 2. The only disappointment for me was that it finished with a clips show - I thought (hoped) they were a thing of the past, but there you go.

Anyway, I've watched the first four eps of s3 now and they all seemed to be of a pretty high quality to me. I enjoyed Into The Fire, especially after the let down of Out Of Mind. And it was nice to see Hathor again... :ph43r:

I thought Seth was a very interesting idea which kind of copped out in the execution, concentrating on Jacob's estrangement from Sam's brother and the other father and son. Teal'c's Jaffa joke was hilariously unfunny, though!

But the last two episodes were excellent. Fair Game is one of those episodes that I thought I knew where it was going and threw a bit of a curve ball by having Teal'c and Cronus apparently get into a bit of a fight and nearly kill each other. I really appreciated Jack's negotiating skills, too

And Legacy was my favourite out of the four, particularly the first half, with Daniel ending up in a padded cell. Even though I knew he wasn't really going mad they did a good job of suspending the disbelief for 25 minutes or so. Michael Shanks was excellent.

And another thumbs up for the transition into Dolby Digital.

So a good start to the season. Looking forward to the next disc. :)

Clips shows ?? Hmmm, there are at least another couple of those that I can think of in later seasons. You'll be relieved to hear however that the context of those particular episodes makes the flashbacks quite necessary. They're generally better that OUT OF MIND, by some distance.

I hope so. I haven't seen that kind of episode in ages, so it was something of a disappointment. I understand why they do it, though.

One thing you guys may be able to answer for me, and I may be being a bit dense here, but I'm convinced that whenever I've caught the show on tv that the opening titles have been the theme music played over the camera panning around an Egyptian mask. All the titles on the dvds have been action and cast shots. I'm confused.

Didn't you read that book by the nice Mr Topping? The 'Did you Know' section for 'Singularity' tells you all about the different title sequences :)

Basically, the tracking round the head was originally used when Stargate was broadcast on Showtime, and when the series went to syndication they changed to the episode clips (also, they tweaked some episodes, such as O'Neill's 'Think you get Showtime' comment on 'Within the Serpent's Grasp' being changed to 'Mmm... Goa'uld TV...')

On the DVDs, they used the clip-credits up till 'Crystal Skull' (episode 321), but from 'Nemesis' (episode 322) onwards they deferred to the pharoah head.

Of course, come Season 6 when Stargate was dropped from Showtime and moved to the Sci-Fi channel, they got a new sequnce entirely!

Cheers Phillip. :)

Note to self: Pay more attention to Mr Topping

Saw Forever In A Day last night - wow, what a great episode, best of s3 so far I think. I was wondering how they'd get around the Sha're (sp?) problem and how it would affect Daniel, and I think they handled it really well whilst alos giving him a reason to stay on with SGC. Great stuff. :)

Ah - 'Forever in a Day' - the infamous episode which, when broadcast in Germany, had the title which translated was 'Sha'ra is Dead'.

Obviously there's no German word for 'spoiler' :)

I agree what a poor season finale Out of Mind was and a clips episode as well! On the other hand what a fantastic season opener, I'd forgotten Stargate could be that good.

One thing that struck me was the number of SG teams used in the rescue and for such a minor Goa'uld (relatively speaking) Hathor's defences were about as good and tough as it gets in Stargate.

I found the idea of the episode Seth to be quite a poor one. Considering the Goa'uld are power crazy you would think that they would have more power than a little Cult. After 2000+ years you would expect complete and utter domination over this planet. I thought Carter's father and brother storyline was too forced especially the reunion at the end.

When I was on holiday in Egypt recently, I took some time to brush up on my egyptology. The story of Seth is one of the more interesting ones, but it is seriously depraved. You wouldn't believe the stuff that the gods used to get up to.

I would repeat the stories here, but its a family board, and I'd probably get banned.
