Title: The West Wing On E4
Description: *Spoilers*

dr.noah - August 19, 2004 06:29 PM (GMT)
Don't know exactly what Im gonna say, so there maybe spoilers :o  :upside: :weird:

I was wondering if anyone here had been watching the new series on E4? I think it's season 4 or 5? they're showing? It's been very good so far.... Im wondering what Leo is upto? He's turned into a right little prat this year so far!!!

And Gary Cole (OK there are spoliers!!!) as the vice prez?!! Lineing him up for the role of the prez in season 9?

I know this show is about politics and dosent have the cool factor like Six Feet Under, but its good drama from the US and usually find myself left suprised by whats gonna happen. (Probably coz I dont read any thing like a "Spoiler Zone" for the show! Which I hate myself for doing with the cult shows and spoil the future episodes!) :whistling: :toomuchtv:

Its S5 Noah - I've seen it all at US pace - while still superb the absence of creator Aaron Sorkin has meant that this season is less sharp than the previous ones imo. Still quality TV though

Don't remember noticing anything huge on the Leo front - there is less of the first lady which is fine cos she annoys the crap out of me.

It's S5 they are showing on E4 at the moment. I'm not watching it because I don't have Sky/Cable but have read TWoP's reviews of the season.

I'd keep watching the tension between Leo and POTUS, POTUS is beginning to make decisions without needing Leo more and more.

I'm not sure TWW will make it to S9 and I don't think I'd like it if there was a new staff tbh. the ratings in the US have been falling for a while now and some people are thinking S6 may be the last. Richard Schiff gave an interview a couple of weeks ago saying he thought S7 may be the last.

I put The West Wing right up there with The Shield. Whilst I may prefer a few other shows, there are none that are better written than The West Wing. The best episode that I can remember would be the season 2 finale, Two Cathedrals, where Bartlett has to announce whether or not he's going to run again. The final scenes as Bartlett and his administration stride through the corridors of power on the way to the press Q&A are great scenes.

I can't help myself with the spoilers I'm afraid :(

Think it's season 5 you're watching there Dr Noah.

I'd settle for seven seasons. A couple more years and a good run. The lifespan of the series is pretty much dictated by the fact that no one's allowed more than 2 terms in office. Don't think it would be half the show without Martin Sheen's character.

Season 4 out on DVD in less than a month and all of season 5 to look forward to as well

My S1 DVDs should be dispatched soon  Really looking forward to them since there are some S1 episodes that I haven't seen.

I initially borrowed the S1 set (part 1) off my brother. Sat down to watch a few episodes while the other half was out. I was that impressed with the first couple of episodes that when she got home I insisted that she sit down and watch them. She did and then another 3 or 4. IIRC we got to bed around 5am

We got the S1/S2 boxset from Amazon last Christmas for about £50.

I can't remember when I started watching TWW but I think it was before Josh met Joey Lucas. I don't even know why I started watching it because it wasn't the kind of show I was into then, but I'm glad I did.

I've got mine at £30 and R1 for two reasons:

1. I want the boxsets to match when I can afford other seasons and they changed the boxsets in R2 S3 to look like the R1 DVDs. Sad I know

2. The R1 DVDs apparently have more extras on them :)

I thought it was season 5, but wasnt sure. Had missed most of s4 and just lost count!

Shame about the raitings going down, would have loved to have seen it go right through an entire US presidensey from begining to end. Although is it still true that TWW prez is still more popular than the the real US prez in the opinion polls? I cant blame them, why would anyone want to vote for that murdering little creep? (Soz getting all political!)

Leo has been a bit more nasty to people since s5 started (Like last nights episode making Allison Janneys character retract the statment in that way) or maybe I've missed the beginnings of this from last year and just noticing this now?

Ive always like Stockard Channing, ever since Grease! Although I think as the First Lady the character is blamming the prez too much on what happened to their daughter?

I wasnt blaming you Angel, this time! I just cant help myself reading the spolier zone in SFX and then hating myelf after reading it!!!!

I haven't seen S4 or S5 so I'm only going on the TWoP reviews and the S4 transcripts so maybe Leo has been more pushy in S4. I did feel sorry for C.J. when I read how she was forced to take back the statement though.

I can't blame Abby for blaming Jed tbh. She didn't want him to run for a second term and he did it without telling her and then his job puts their daughters life in danger. I liked that it was exactly the scenario that Jeb was fearful about and told Zoey about in S1, or was it S2 I can't remember.

It was when she was goimg out with Charlie, and they were getting death threats and someone to a shoot at them for going out with each other?

C.J. Thats her name!!!! I could not remember it! I thought it was a bit strong, the way Leo had treated her. Shes been havin a ruff time of it lately. In last weeks when the pianist was wanting to defect her opinions werent given any sort of good hearing and she was basically ignorned. I mean honestly wether real or in fiction North Korea sitting down at a table and stying there? They should have let him defect. Or at least told him to run into the Canadian or Swiss embassey it defected that way!!!! I think I should be president, I have all the good ideas :o :o :o  :toomuchtv: :toomuchtv:

You can't be worse than the one they have at the moment

C.J. seems to always struggle with the things that she finds morally wrong, see when she made the "Saudi Arabia, our partners in peace" comment which led to her getting death threats and I think this is coming more and more to the fore this season, the characters struggling with what they think is right and if it matches with the administration's ideals.

I've found the kidnapping scenario, it's from Mr. Willis of Ohio (1.06)

The Secret Service should worry about you getting shot.

BARTLET
They are worried about me getting shot. I’m worried about me getting shot. But that is nothing compared to how terrified we are of you. You scare the hell out of the Secret Service Zoey, and you scare the hell out of me too. My getting killed would be bad enough, but that is not the nightmare scenario. The nightmare scenario, sweetheart, is YOU getting kidnapped. You go out to a bar or a party in some club, and you get up to go to the restroom, somebody comes up from behind, puts their hand across your mouth, and whisks you out the back door. You’re so petrified, you don’t even notice the bodies of two secret service agents lying on the ground with bullet holes in their heads. Then you’re whisked away in a car. It’s a big party with lots of noise, and lots of people coming and going. And It’s a half hour before someone says, “Hey where’s Zoey?” Another 15 minutes before the first phone call. Another hour and a half before anyone even THINKS to shut down all the airports. Now we’re off to the races. You’re tied to a chair in a cargo shack, somewhere in the middle of Uganda. And I’m told that I have 72 hours to get Israel to free 460 terrorist prisoners. So I’m on the phone pleading with Benjamin and he’s saying, “I’m sorry Mr. President, but Israel simply does not negotiate with terrorists, period. It’s the only way we can survive.” So now we’ve got a new problem, because this country no longer has a commander in chief, it has a father who’s out of his mind because his little girl is in a shack somewhere in Uganda with a gun to her head. DO YOU GET IT?!
