Title: Help Needed!
LoobiLou - August 14, 2004 09:48 PM (GMT)
Ok, seeing all your wonderful pics you've all made has inspired me to have a go myself :)
I downloaded PhotoPlus, i chose my pics, i used one as a background...now i'm stuck! How do you make the other pics you want to add blend into the background one? Does that make sense?
I've tried the help option, no luck, and i've tried searching google but nothing seems to be helping me...so how do you all do it? Anyone have any step by step tips they'd be willing to share? I'd be very grateful :D
Thanks anyone :)

PhotoPlus' help is useless, I had to teach myself. It works using layers so if you want to add another picture you have to select the picture you want and then paste it as another layer(Ctrl+L) on to the background. The only way so far that I have found how to make the two layers blend together is to use the freehand selection tool to select the outline of the thing you want and then go into the select menu and to modify and then to feather. This will make the transition from the outline of the picture to the background less severe, you have to choose a number by which you want to feather but that will be up to your personal tastes - I recommend having a wee practice at it to see what you prefer.

Thanks Laura and Rob :) I'd worked out how to add layers, but the feathering thing has come in useful

I'm gonna be really annoying now cos i've been at this all day and either PhotoPlus is really crap or i'm incredibly stupid
I was cropping images before using the freehand selection tool, but now when i try i draw around the part i want to select and instead of highlighting the area i chose an entirely different shape comes up as being selected
Anyone have any ideas? Pleeeeeease :D

I'm not entirely sure what PhotoPlus is doinf, it can be a bit unpredictable at times - I recommend saving your work at regular intervals as it once crashed on me as I was about to save a finished wallpaper.
It could be a couple of things:
1. If you are using the proper crop thing it will only crop in a rectangle/square shape.
2. You could have chosen the oval shape selector instead of freehand as they are right next to each other (but this seems unlikely if you have been using it all day and are used to selecting things with freehand).
3. PhotoPlus is being an arse

Number 3 is it then
I'm looking for a new type of software...it's doing my head in and i can't say with all certainty that i won't throw the computer out of the bedroom window

The Gimp is a good freeware programme
Or you can usually find Paint Shop Pro being given away by magazines etc.
