And now turmoil reigns in this once-fair land, a drought killing off many equines and leaving the rest maddened with thirst and grief for their fallen comrades. The darks are gaining strength, the fiery understudy Vesanta is proving to be more ruthless than the dark lord Jadero could have hoped. Still, nothing can prepare her for the terrible shock that looms on the horizon. Nothing can ready her for the test of finding out her true lineage and discovering who she truly is.

Meanwhile, the lights go on dutifully, the light lord Jaimas driven mad by the news that his mate and daughter were chased down by the dark royals and slain. Little did any of them know, the two had barely managed to survive the swim to the island of the Rebels, the mares who bow to no stallion. With Jaimas in no state of mind to lead, the lights are looking even less likely to be able to withstand an attack from the darks. And that's when they'll have to call upon every ally they have, for the darks have an even greater and more terrible allegiance with the herd of the undead.
