Physical description:
Although he is not overwhelming in stature, Jason makes up for his 5 foot, 5 inch frame in attitude. He does have the muscle to hold his ground in a fight; he just is not huge and bulky like a lot of guys are. Quick on his feet his body is built more for speed and agility than simply brute force. His frame is normally covered by a t-shirt or sleeveless shirt and a pair of jeans, typically faded and a pair of steel-toed boots. As a tattoo artist, he himself is almost like a walking billboard as tattoos cover his arms and various areas of his torso and back. The most noticeable tattoo is a small star on his cheek, under his right eye. Tattoos are not all of his markings as there are three studs on his right eyebrow and his ears are pierced. Finally there are a pair of twin scars on his abdomen, below either ribcage, both are in the shape of four claw marks and are in near perfect symmetry.

Personality description:
Jason tends to carry a lot of attitude at times, though if you ask anyone who really knows him his bark is worse than his bite. But then those who know him are not often privy to seeing Jason angry or enraged. In truth it is a side of himself that not even he sees all that often. Among friends he is easy going and can be charming in his own special way. He can be a bit crude when it comes to language, but a lot of it comes from where he grew up and those he hung around, in a friendly setting his language is just something to overlook.

As far as his affliction is concerned Jason has slowly begun to accept it, there is no sense in fighting it after all. You can’t change the past and he cannot change what he is. Even in the years he has lived as a lycanthrope, he enjoys the perks that come with it. But of course he knows too well the downside and is always wary of anyone who gets too close, especially humans. If humans knew, or the wrong humans for that matter, he was a lycanthrope he would probably be banned. It would be risky in the eyes of many humans prejudice against lycanthropes to have one handling needles. How easy it would be to pass on the disease, although he is far from that type of person.

Vampires are something else entirely though and Jason finds himself rather distrustful of them. He’s not sure why, it’s just a feeling that he has felt ever since arriving in Miami and being exposed to them. Nonetheless Jason tries to get along with them, especially those who may come to his shop, though those seem to be few and far between. It suits him just fine though.

Take me home to meet mom and dad:
Parents: Gillian Riley – Mother; Robert Riley - Father
Siblings: Andrea Riley - Sister
Children: None… that he is aware of.

History:
Born into a normal household, Jason was one of two children to be born to his mother, Gillian and his father, Robert. He was the eldest and his sister, Andrea was three years his junior. A fairly normal life growing up in the town of Boston, Massachusetts; having to deal with a bratty younger sister, growing into puberty and leaving behind the innocence of childhood and the responsibility of manhood. It was all rather cliché sounding, but it was the truth. Of course he developed certain traits and hobbies along the way. He had an artist side that he loved to indulge in, even at a young age he enjoyed scribbling whatever onto a piece of paper and sticking it to the refrigerator with pride… even if no one else knew what the drawing was suppose to be.

His teenage years allowed him to explore more into his artistic side as he found others who shared his love and encouraged it. His parents hoped that perhaps he would take up a more profitable profession than being a painter or whatever artist it was he wanted to be. His art was not traditional though, it was more ‘exotic’… ‘primal.’ Skin ink was his calling and he gladly began to experiment and learn the trade while he was still in high school. Many of his first tattoos were results of his experimentation and what better to practice on than himself?

Jason’s family was not entirely pleased with his choice of profession, at least his younger sister was going a ‘straighter’ path. Admittedly, she was practically Jason’s opposite. She was an A student and had dreams of college and a real career. While Jason remained in the city and getting jobs where he could, his sister went off to college in New York and her destiny would eventually take her on to Africa as part of her work and study for her Zoology degree. Jason led a fast pace life once he left his parents home and if you asked his mom or his dad they would say that he fell into the wrong crowd. His life consisted of parties, women, drinking and even drugs; in addition to his work as a freelance tattoo artist.

His lowest point came while dating a young woman named Samantha. He had been stricken with a case of love at first sight when he had ran across Samantha at a bar one night. There was something that drew him to her and he was not about to question it. Of course much of that night and the days following were a drug and alcohol induced blur. Anyone else could have easily seen how foolish their relationship was as they practically became “boyfriend and girlfriend” in a single night. But it was the fact that Samantha seemed to be more of a tease than anything or it was really that she just wanted to reel Jason in more. Though within that fast paced span of a week Samantha did eventually allow their ‘relationship’ to move forward and in a mix of drugs and alcohol they made ‘love.’

Samantha’s true form suddenly took form in the middle of their fun as she apparently could not control her urges or her human shape. Unfortunately for Jason he was simply too out of it from the cocktail of alcohol and pot to really understand what was happening, but he would remember it for the rest of his life. Samantha had not severely hurt Jason when she shape-shifted as, thankfully, Jason’s buddies had come to the rescue and pulled the female off, but not before the damage was done and blood had been shared as they had struggled to be free of each other.

Jason sobered up quickly after that night, now faced with the reality that he was now infected with the disease of lycanthropy and at the age of 21. He was ashamed by what had happened and that he had allowed a woman to get close to him only to have her take advantage. It had happened before when he was in high school, but not to such a degree. Unable to face his parents or return to the same crowds he had mingled in before, not as he was now. There was no way he could get a real job as a tattoo artist with the word spreading of what happened to him and what he was. Even if lycanthropy was considered a disease and no one could discriminate against you.

He decided to move south, as far away as he possibly could from Boston. Taking what little money he had and hoped his abilities would carry him the rest of the way, Jason Riley left his home and moved to Florida; Miami to be exact. Of course he didn’t realize at the time that preternaturals were practically flocking to Miami as well. He found out quickly and quietly set up his small shop which was beneath his rundown apartment. It took many months and even years struggle to make a reputation for himself and he eventually was able to purchase a small parlor down in the Club District and ever since, 6 years later, his business has improved as humans and preternaturals alike come to get inked.

Writing Sample:
A breeze blew down the alleyway, newspaper and loose debris swirling out in various directions as it is carried along the currents of cool air. The alley itself was long and narrow. It was so narrow that the noise from the Club District was muffled against the brick of the two tall buildings to either side. The moon was full and loomed high overhead, casting a pale glow down between the small space between the buildings and illuminating the gritty, dirt and grease ridden concrete. It seemed all the freaks came out on the night of the full moon, for whatever reason, and so the night life was at its peak. Outside of the alley, neon lights competed with the brightness of the moon above though the signs eventually won out, but the moon made the shadows more laminated.

In that quiet alley a soft panting could have been heard, though there was no one there to hear it. Moving through the shadowy illumination, a creature walked slowly, cautiously. It slipped from the side of the building, no longer hugging the coolness of the bricks now that it was within the confines of the alley. The wolf tilted its head skyward and sniffed the air gently. The scents of the night scene were now behind the creature and safety was moments away. The wolf’s ears flattened against its head, hearing a group of teenagers laughing and cackling loudly near the mouth of the alley. The canine stumbled forward, pushing onward down the alley and ignoring the troubling sounds of humans on the streets. Muscles rippled under gray and black fur as the wolf pushed itself into a trot, though it seemed to sway and swagger as it moved as if fatigued and wary.

It was not long before the wolf found what it was looking for. It clawed and scratched at a small wooden panel at the bottom of the right building. With a bit of force, perhaps the last that it had, the panel fell free and the wolf lowered its body and began to wriggle its way inside. The tunnel was short and ended with the animal lurching forward to slump down on the cool tile of a bathroom. It was there that the wolf laid, eyes now closed as if the creature was asleep. The form began to change as it lay there, no longer appearing to be quite so wolf like. It was a matter of an hour or so did the change take place and in place of the wolf was the form of a naked man.

Jason Riley had returned safely to the bathroom of his tattoo parlor, he would sleep through the rest of the night and much of the next day. It was a good thing the shop was closed.
