Title: A Hyena Meets The Mistress
Description: Attention Darla
Ray Benjamin - November 30, 2007 01:30 PM (GMT)
Ray looked upon what most would consider a magnificent building with little interest. He was not some college graduate who would faun over something as stupid as a building. To Ray, large buildings such as the one he was being drawn to now were meaningless and only a way for those with money to show it off. He chuckled to himself quite suddenly as he thought about all the rich snobs in the world who complain about having things stolen from their home and not knowing why they were chosen out of everybody. Ray could sense his hyena pacing slowly back and forth within him, not only uneasy about whatever was calling him, but uneasy that something could call them. When Ray had decided to come to Miami he had specifically done his research to make sure there was no female leader for a clan. Not only that, but he also looked in to make sure that no vampire could call hyenas. Apparently some vampire had either come into the power while he had been traveling here or he had just been plain wrong.
Ray made sure that his weapon was secured within the front of his pants as he neared the front door of the mansion. No matter what was to happen he didn’t plan on loosing his weapon and didn’t plan on staying for long. He was only here to find out who was calling him and make sure they knew that he didn’t like it. He hated master vampires almost as much as he hated cops and that was saying a lot. As Ray reached out and pressed upon the doorbell, his throat produced a rattling growl. To any other lycanthrope a growl could have been seen as a million things. However, hyenas were very vocal creatures and even more so was the spotted hyena which Ray was. A rattling growl to a hyena meant that he was giving a call of alarm. Most werehyenas didn’t usually fall into the instinctive calls of their animal, but Ray was much more in tuned, much more willing to be the beast, and because of such he naturally took on some of it’s habits.
Ray stood back as he waited, surprisingly patiently, for someone to answer the door. He didn’t like walking right into the domain of a vampire, but he had to do this. As he waited for someone, probably a servant, to come answer the door his mind went through several scenarios. Ray was not an intelligent or wise person according to most. However, what he lacked in knowledge of literature and mathematics he easily made up for in fighting ability and street knowledge. He made sure to quickly think of a few possible exit points if the need were to arise. Once he had those thoughts clear he breathed in deep and awaited the welcoming committee.

And so another hyena had made its way to her city. Not moving from her desk Darla waited for the manservant to answer the door and listened with half an ear as the hyena was lead to her office, the other half of her mind focused on a letter sent from Romania telling her that one of her attendants within the castle was ill, and that he would have to be out of the castle for a few weeks. She would have to arrange how to take care of the man, his family, and the castle whilst in the care of one less servant from here, but that could not be helped.
Looking up as the manservant with the hyena reached the door and knocked softly twice, Darla folded the letter back into the envelope and slid it into her drawer, clearing the desk of anything business-related.
"Enter."

Eventually someone did come to answer his presence. As he predicted some boy toy manservant had opened the door for him, leading him towards the vampire that lay in wait. As he followed the vampire Ray wondered just how old the thing was. He could always tell if one of them were strong just like they could tell if a lycanthrope was tough. However, he was always bad at placing ages on them. Some of them played the modern vampire very well and it made it tough. Honestly Ray hadn’t had much experience in playing ‘Guess Their Age,’ very much any way, he didn’t like dealing with vampires. Lycanthropes were easier to deal with. In comparison lycanthropes, even lions, were much more blunt in who they liked and didn’t. You could always tell who your ally was and who your enemy was. Vampires were a completely different ball game. It was as if all those centuries had twisted their little minds and turned each and everyone of them into little psychos in their own ways. Ray in his own mind was fairly crazy himself and thus didn’t judge them so much. However, being able to watch their little fun games and having to actually participate in them were two different things. Ray could deal with vampires as long as he didn’t have anything they wanted. Once ulterior motives came into play that was when things became a little less fun.
Ray brought his attention back to the task at hand as the manservant and he moved around another bend. Ray was beginning to regret not having paid attention the whole walk over. Ray was in some serious trouble if something were to go wrong and this master of the city to be depraved for some reason; Ray would need to get the hell out of there. The place was huge; almost a castle in its own right and Ray had been so busy daydreaming that he had neglected to keep track of all the maze like twists and turns. Ray calmed himself down quickly however, if worse came to worse he would have to fight his way out. Though the mistress of the city was strong and indeed had the power to call his kind he would not die here. Eventually the pair reached a small wooden door and Ray silenced his personal thoughts and prepared himself for the meeting. He didn’t plan on acting unlike himself, but at the same time he would need to be careful on where he looked and how he answered.
Ray entered the room shortly after the manservant did; taking quick note of the place he was entering. His eyes gazed upon, but did not exactly meet the vampire that lay in wait behind the desk. She was a woman and if thought to be human people would have mistooken her for young. However, if she had come into power enough to control a whole city chances are she was old as dirt. Ray nodded his head a bit chance as recognition of her presence and then he sat down on one of the lounge chairs placed before the table without the need of an invitation. He sat there for a moment his eyes, remaining fixated on her chin. Ray kept a comfortable smile as he waited for the more polite vampire to introduce herself. Her call had brought him here not the other way around. Though he was planning on telling her to tone it down a bit, he would let her make the first move.

Looking up at the werehyena as he entered the room, eyes taking him in in a matter of moments, Darla gave a smirk that left her fangs hidden and watched the simple nod, not doing anyting as the man took a seat without so much as a verbal greeting. Taking out the letter once more, Darla started to write in it again, completely ignoring the hyena, eyes on the page. She was not going to have a meeting with this obtuse canine if he did not show her so much as a modicum of respect in greeting so she might as well have her time be spent productively. Now, if he were to greet her and do it cordially then things would go far better for him in the long run.
Keeping her shields up and solid so that only her call would be felt by him, she did not pause in her writing or look up from the page as she spoke, her tone cold but neutral. She kept the majority of her power out of her voice but let a little bit of it tug at his hyena, letting it know that she could affect it without using anything near all of her power. A subtle warning that doing as it was told was a better way to survive and get what it wanted in return.
"I would reccomend you greet me properly hyena, or we shall have a very long meeting in which we simply sit here."

Ray watched amused as Darla took out what he assumed to be a letter and began to write. She apparently was not as pleased with Ray’s silence as he was with it. Ray didn’t mind however, life was a game to him and this was just another fun mini-game within it. He similarly didn’t feel like introducing himself for he thought that such would be meaningless. He wasn’t planning on ever coming back to this place again and certainly didn’t want to have to deal with the mistress of the city ever again. Eventually Ray gave out a sigh, not to who that he had given up, but just to play with the mistress of the city as if he were bored. The woman was probably almost if not even a thousand year old vampire, but she had no clue who Ray was. He wasn’t certain if he could beat her in a fight, but he was certain that he could definitely get under her skin. It was talent that Ray had and very few were able to guard against it.
Ray could feel the call moving through her and towards him. The feeling was pleasant, but since his arrival it had toned down just a bit. Apparently she had wanted to show him the extent of her power without actually having to try. Ray had to admit that without trying to fully use her powers, the call was still dangerous to him. It wasn’t nearly as demanding as before, but the fact that Ray could still not totally ignore him did irk him slightly. However, Ray was never one to follow orders so as the vampire continued to write Ray still made no move. Eventually Darla must have gotten sick of this little game they had been playing and greeted him, sort of. He smiled and shrugged as she spoke taking her comment all in stride. Ray then said, “I am sorry then, vampire. I had only assumed that the master of the city would have known at least the name of a supernatural baddie that entered her domain. I am pretty sure that I am right on that last part too, especially since it would look really bad being that I am a hyena and you have to power to call me and what not.” Ray remained silent for a minute for letting a large smile break out on his face. He then continued to say, “The name’s Ray Benjamin. Didn’t come from an exact place so don’t ask where, just drifted here. Figured I stay for a few weeks see the sights of Miami. You must be, Darla Strigoi, Mistress of the City. I just wanted to stop by and ask you oh so politely if you could stop calling me. I don’t know whether it is accidental or on purpose, but it is annoying trying to get laid and then your power distracting me.” Ray sat there a smile on his face that was all casual. He hadn’t been overly rude to earn him death, but he hadn’t been the most pleasant guest. He was tip toeing on that line like he always did.

Arching an eyebrow with the hint of a smirk curving her lips Darla imitated Ray's shrug perfectly, right down to the muscle movement and the angles of his frame as he moved, and settled back into her chair in a rather informal position but still upright within her chair and ready for the slightest wrong move from the hyena.
"On the contrary my dear Mr Benjamin, formerly of Los Angeles. I know all about you, I simply found that your behaviour did not warrant the civiliity of me using your name. My name is easy enough to know, seeing as I am on the front of almost every newspaper in this city, so perhaps I should be asking if you bothered to know who was in control prior to your wandering little visit."
Taking a stick of crimson sealing wax from beside the letter Darla's facial expression did not change as she used a match to melt the end of it and then seal the letter before putting it away and focusing her attention fully onto Ray.
"My call is never accidental Ray, if I could not control my power enough to stop something that small I would not hold the position I do now. Now, give me a reason why I should stop calling you."
