"This is completely unacceptable, I want a refund."
Selah sighed, reaching up to swipe her hair away from her forehead, leaving a streak of chicken blood across her cheek and along the bridge of her nose unknowingly. "Sir," she said calmly, "You don't get a refund if the risen doesn't give you the answer you were looking for."
"Nonsense," he cried, face angry. "I can't do anything with that answer! I can't sell the house, I can't--"
"I'm really very sorry, sir," Selah said again, voice still gentle, but firm. She was glad she'd already put her zombie back to rest; she hated, hated when clients did this, argued about the information they'd received, in front of their risen. They didn't know how to lie; to accuse them of such was absurd and insulting. "But she told you everything. There's nothing else I can do for you tonight."
"Raise her husband," he demanded, nodding to the gravesite just beside the one she'd already disturbed. "He'll know for sure."
"Mr. Lyons," Selah sighed, voice hardening just slightly, arms folding over her chest, "That wasn't in the contract, and I couldn't do it anyway." Her limit was still one rising per evening, she couldn't break that threshold. Some Animator, huh?
"What do you mean, you couldn't? There a rule against that?"
"Sir," Selah repeated, voice trembling slightly, "If you'd like her husband raised, you'll need to go back and see Rich," she said gently, wavering a bit, "Draw up a new contract, get a new price, and he'll assign an Animator to your case. There's nothing I can do for you tonight." Easiest way of letting things go without outright admitting she wasn't in control enough, or powerful enough, to raise more than one zombie in one evening.
Mr. Lyons didn't look pleased; in fact, he looked downright pissed. But he nodded, gathering up his wife, who'd been standing at his side, silent throughout the ritual and the following argument, and stalked off toward the gate to the cemetery.
Once they were out of sight, Selah let her firm demeanor drop, shoulders slumping, and she sighed, turning to look at the resting place of the woman she'd just pulled from peace. "I'm sorry," she said softly, both to her and her husband, whom she was sure would be receiving the same rude wake-up call within days at most.
Scarlet Morti - November 23, 2007 03:54 PM (GMT)
Scarlet heard a loud sound from close where she was working, throwing her tools into her bag she went over into the direction, finally being able to hear the voices she listened in to two people shouting, Scarlet remained in the shadows, having finally finished off her helping of the night she didn’t feel like more people to annoy her with their problems, but she distinguished a slight tone to the woman’s voice, Scarlet brought out one off her daggers she had used to behead the chicken and stalked out from the shadows, only in time to see a man and wife walk off.
She looked at the woman standing over the graves, feeling a slight Animator power she walked over to her “ is everything alright?” she said her tone flat as usual but her eyes scanned the area, Full time Animator, part time Executioner, both together gave you two things, dead don’t stay dead and kill the dead…
Selah DuVall - November 23, 2007 04:08 PM (GMT)
Selah turned her gaze away from the tombstones, eyes hard despite how shaken she was, prepared to argue with Mr. Lyons all over again. She was about to open her mouth, when she realized it wasn't him at all; it was another animator. At least that was one thing she could pick up on easily enough, the feel of other animators. She smiled faintly, straightening her back, and crouched down to begin picking up her tools. "Just fine," she said easily, "Client wasn't thrilled with what the risen had to say."
Scarlet Morti - November 23, 2007 04:16 PM (GMT)
Scarlet smiled “ yes 6 out of 10 times it is that way” she said looking down at her won black bag full up with all her things, the air was quite mild, a soft wind gently grazing the line of Scarlet’s cheek. She smiled slightly at the silence of the cemetery, the softness of the breeze in the trees that rattled slightly against the leaves, she often wondered how life as a lycan would be, often put herself in a vampires shoes, but never had she felt the full longing of the sense’s that they possessed, the night so enhanced that no shadow or smell could escape them.
Coming back to earth she looked more closely at the young girl, “ I haven’t seen you before, what company do you work for” as far as she had heard she was the newest of member, Richard she was sure would have told her, seeing as there was only 3 girls it was quite easy to keep track off. She stepped back awkwardly as the woman started collecting her tools.
Selah DuVall - November 23, 2007 04:30 PM (GMT)
Selah slipped all of her own items down into her bag, black with red trim, and zipped it carefully. Reaching up and adjusting her scarf around her neck, she smiled slightly at the other girl, both at the comment she'd made and the question. Carefully swinging her bag over her shoulder, she stood, and offered her a hand politely. It was covered in dried blood now, of course, but if she was an animator, she understood. "I'm Selah," she said first, "I was just hired at Moonlight about four days ago, it's only my second night."
Scarlet Morti - November 23, 2007 05:16 PM (GMT)
Scarlet grinned “ same here, Has Richard been a git? I had 4 Bookings Tonight” she said frowning unhappily, true it was it was better than her old boss. She smiled slightly yet it never reached her eyes, it was hard to do so, she called it her professional smile, yet it implied in all situations. She shook the woman’s hand, keeping her shake small and firm. “ Nice meeting you, I’m Scarlet” she said awkwardly she had never been used to meeting people, never the less she tried to keep her smile intact
Selah DuVall - November 23, 2007 05:20 PM (GMT)
Selah's eyebrows shot up, unable to cover her surprise. Four? There'd been animators back in Chicago who'd topped out at three; anything more than that exhausted even the powerful. She shook her head, smiling a bit, and looked down at her hands, holding them palm-up in front of herself. "No," she said, "This was my only job tonight." No need to say it was all she could handle; she was a bit defensive about that. She didn't understand why she couldn't harness her powers or gain some form of control, after all of this time. Why she kept doing things in her sleep, but couldn't throw that power back to her jobs.
Scarlet Morti - November 23, 2007 07:10 PM (GMT)
Scarlet grinned as the woman’s eyebrows shot up, “ Yes where I was from, at the start I could only raise 2, but they pushed so hard the powers that after a while” she shrugged she didn’t need to add that she had once even raised 5, staring before sundown… Scarlet never knew hoe she so easily pulled her power towards her, and strong, years of practise, or the same as being an executioner, having to act on the spot …
“ Well that’s good to have a light hold, shame it had to be one tough client” Scarlet pulled out a pack of baby butt, wet wipes handing one to the woman that was in clear need of one. “ here for your” she motioned on her own face the marks of blood that was swished across the woman’s face.
Selah DuVall - November 23, 2007 07:21 PM (GMT)
"Cool," Selah said simply, smiling hesitantly, unsure of what else to say on that subject. She wasn't about to tell a fellow animator she sucked. That her powers were completely wild and weren't tamed even years after discovering what she could do. "I couldn't do that many if I had to to save my life," she added, chuckling, figuring that was safe enough, anyway.
Taking the wipe from her, not at all embarrassed about the blood, she swiped at her hands, then her face, well aware she had to be coated in it, she said, "Thanks, I don't carry these with me," as she pocketed the mussed wipe in her jacket pocket.
Scarlet Morti - November 23, 2007 07:43 PM (GMT)
Scarlet grinned yet still the effort was hard, she never understood why she wasn’t a warm person, mentally sighing she looked back at the woman “ trust me, if it was to save your life you would be able to, some of the things I do from being an Executioner” Scarlet paled, Damn, didn’t mean that to slip she quickly changed the subject. “ yes I keep them on me as I have a tendency to go places after working, and coated in blood isn’t the best welcome wagon”
Selah DuVall - November 23, 2007 07:52 PM (GMT)
An executioner. Well, that explained the power, she supposed. Not a job she wanted in this lifetime, though. The vamp bite scar beneath her scarf actually felt as if it was pulsing with the thought of it, and she straightened up again, shoulders forced and hard. "I can imagine," she said, acknowledging what she'd said, instinctively shifting her scarf. "See, everyone I know's used to the blood," she chuckled, "I just don't even bother anymore."
Rachel pardus - November 23, 2007 08:10 PM (GMT)
Scarlet felt a bit distant from the scene in which was rolling before her, she hardly ever told anyone she was an Executioner, only those she killed, it was a dangerous life in the wild when a quarter or more of your entourage were vampires. “ yes we earn a lot of scars from being Animator, I have double” she said scowling slightly a frown forming across her head.
“ Yes blood doesn’t bother me, yet if a human was to see you walking into a supermarket in blood, trust me they scream” she said grinning slightly
Selah DuVall - November 23, 2007 09:09 PM (GMT)
"Let them scream," Selah said simply, grinning in the slightest, and shrugged her shoulders a little. One of the drawbacks that came with who she was, was that nobody would really ever understand her. She hadn't really accepted her calling yet, but she was tired of pretending to be normal when it kept backfiring.
Scarlet Morti - November 25, 2007 05:58 PM (GMT)
Scarlet grinned, "so have you been Raising the dead for long?” she asked as she put her wipes back into her pocket, digging out this time a small towel, she smoothed it down the sides of her dagger, placing it back into her hidden leg pouch, tightening her holster strap with her easy 9mm in for comfort she threw her bag back over her shoulder, normally after work she glided around the night, for those humans in distress though she couldn’t kill them, she could still stop them from feeding if she walked past.
Scarlet admired her job, it never came to her once that with each call for another vampire to be hunted put her life in danger, instead she embraced it, an adrenaline rush after all can become quite addictive, yet still there were times that wanted her to quite, but there will always be a ghost of her past, the deaths of her family that will for ever more haunt her.
Selah DuVall - November 25, 2007 11:19 PM (GMT)
Selah laughed slightly; how to answer that? Professionally or incidentally? She shrugged her shoulders helplessly, the bag sliding down a bit along one of them. "I started raising human zombies about two years ago, but I've been accidentally raising mice and rats since I was seven or so, I was pretty young." The rat thing had sealed the deal, of course, and was what had caused her mother to contact the church about the exorcism. She didn't say that aloud, though.
Scarlet Morti - November 26, 2007 06:30 PM (GMT)
" well it is longer than me, i didn't even know such exsisted untill i was sown and my dormant power become strong, yet i have never tired raising those that are close to me, such would only be an illusion of something long gone" she said her voice half distant, she looked round slowly shakng off the feeling of being watched as her sense's felt no power
Selah DuVall - November 26, 2007 08:27 PM (GMT)
Selah smiled a bit, but nodded a few times, her own eyes scanning the cemetery briefly before resting back on Scarlet. "I don't know which is more common, the dormant energy or the accidents," she admitted; Jake had told her he'd done a few accidental risings himself before he'd harnessed his power, but not to the extent that Selah kept it going on a regular basis. Luckily, she'd only ever raised one human zombie by accident, but one had been way more than enough for her tastes.
Scarlet Morti - November 27, 2007 06:38 PM (GMT)
"yea, so when ever you need help though with a shift just give me call im the first right after Rich's office" she said smiling, she watched Curiously as the woman infront of her scanned the area, she wondered if she too had the feeling of being watched
Selah DuVall - November 27, 2007 07:54 PM (GMT)
Selah smiled, a genuine one. "I will, thank you," she said, meaning that. She knew she couldn't do more than one, and if the office got busy, she was going to be in real trouble. She looked back to Scarlet, eyebrow raised, wondering if she was thinking the same thing she was.
Rose Muertos Sangre - November 28, 2007 04:35 PM (GMT)
Rose walked out of the shadows she had been standing in for a while, her footsteps were silent the rhythm matching her slow heart beat easily she saw two woman not so long ago, each one held a energy of the dead, one some what stronger that the other, but never the less Rose was sure they were Animators, Rose wondered if she could have a little laugh with the two and so headed off in that direction, getting closer to the two she had the feeling they had already felt her presence.
“ a lovely night hey” she said her voice carrying in slowly in to darkness towards the too, the sound was cold and full of torment, some humans were so easy to roll with nothing but the sound of their voice, Rose herself never used for such instead she played around with the different emotions she could hang on them.
Scarlet Morti - November 28, 2007 04:48 PM (GMT)
Scarlet turned towards a presence she could finally locate, she watched at the young woman approached them, Scarlet had the worst feeling, a cold sweep of air that ran across her skin and swept down her spine, in a flash she brought out a dagger, being human didn’t mean we had to be foolish, and being and executioner also gave her the right to hold any weapon against a vampire, though it would be hard to get out of it, and never knows if the master of the city was to hunt her down if she perished one of her Kiss.
She spun her dagger slightly as she looked at the other woman her eyebrows raised wondering if the other animator knew the vampire in front, she turned back to the vampire that had just spoken, she felt the words run down her spine as she quickly closed off her mind, a large block hidden in front of all her thoughts as she enveloped her power around her, being an Animator she had learned how to use her power as a defence, she just had to be careful not to get scratched and raise all the dead in the cemetery.
“ Lovely ? maybe before you arrived” she said sourly, it wasn’t her fault she hated the vampires, it was their own fault after her tragic past she blamed al vampires, they were never her friends and Scarlet never had the patience to find out.
Selah DuVall - November 28, 2007 07:02 PM (GMT)
Selah visibly tensed and took several steps back, away from Scarlet and the vampire, eyeing the other animator confusedly. She couldn't kill the woman; she should've known that, being an Executioner. She had to have a warrant. "Scarlet," she said quietly, reaching for her bag and holding it close against her body, more for comfort than anything else, "What are you doing? You can't kill her without a warrant."
She glanced back and forth between the two woman, taking a few more steps backwards, stumbling over an uneven patch of land beneath her feet. She swore, something she really didn't do all that often, and steadied herself by grabbing a tombstone directly in front of her.
She was confused by the guarded power Scarlet was giving off; this vampire was old, over five hundred, but she was no Master. Not that she could feel, anyway. If she wasn't a master, it was unlikely that this woman would be able to roll her mind. At least, that was how it'd always been for Selah; baby vamps couldn't grab her mind in the way that Masters could. She briefly wondered if that was a common thing, but pushed it away, concentrating on the situation at hand instead.
Fingers digging roughly into her bag of equipment, she kept a close watch on the two women, but said nothing else.
Rose Muertos Sangre - November 28, 2007 07:19 PM (GMT)
Rose looked surprised at the way the two characters clashed, one standing in front of her fearless the other one hiding behind a headstone, her eyes were dead cold on the woman holding the daggers in front of her, she didn’t blink she stood there almost no movement in a sign of breathing of otherwise escaped her body.
“but down your weapons” she said coolly, she was not master vamp as she choose it, but she could sure control her anger and also send it out towards people.
Yet in a different way Rose was still slightly attracted to the woman’s power, her own death power used for protection, Rose had not yet came across this use, and nor this much power beaming off the woman in won go, listening to the squabbling woman’s words, she soon found out why the woman was fearless, an executioner, she has had practise then she thought wickedly.
Scarlet Morti - November 28, 2007 07:20 PM (GMT)
Scarlet turned to see where the other woman had disappeared off to, she nearly laughed as she saw her hiding behind a tombstone. But she kept her mind concentrated; it wasn’t natural for a vampire to walk up to two people into a cemetery that they didn’t know with out an explanation.
“ Who said I was ganna kill the vampire, I was just taking out for protection, unless of course the vampire makes a direct move that could threaten my life, these blades are soaked in holy water, again I still wouldn’t kill her but I can defend myself” Scarlet was talking to both the vampire and the woman, her words meant to comfort the woman who was letting of strong fear vibes and threaten the vampire who stood there calm and cool, as though fully in control of the situation.
Selah DuVall - November 28, 2007 07:45 PM (GMT)
Selah's skin was literally crawling, like thousands of ants all trying to creep down her shirt, her jeans, find their way into her ears and out her nose. Being around vampires was enough to scare the living shit out of her, but this close to one, one who was speaking almost directly to her...yeah, Selah wanted to rip off all of her skin to get that feeling to go away.
Instinctively, without thought, Selah reached beneath her scarf, wound rightly around her neck, and yanked up the dangling silver chain, a delicate, but good-sized silver and sapphire cross hanging from the bottom, and withdrew it so it was flopped out over the scarf. Already, it was beginning to glimmer with a deep, blue glowing effect, and when she looked down at her wrist, her tiny bracelet, each charm attached a cross as well, she found that it, too, was emanating a soft, blue, burning glow.
She said nothing, only stood behind the tombstone, and watched the two women.
Rose Muertos Sangre - November 28, 2007 08:01 PM (GMT)
Rose hissed slightly, her fangs lashing out in the darkness as she saw the glow of the woman’s cross, coward she thought, rose always looked down at those that looked up to god, so what did that make her? Higher than god? She hated the dagger woman nearly less than the one with the cross, she too wrapped her power around her, her laughed as the glow continued dimly but Rose detached herself from the feeling, she concentrated on the woman in front of her.
Rose sneered at scarlet “ You can defend yourself but you cannot kill me, you would have more than the cops on your back”
Mean, yesh, true, maybe bluffing ? hell yea
Rose looked down at her black dress; it was originally gothic type 1500’s dress, one of her favourites!
She turned to the woman “ put them the hell away before I give you a reason to have them out” she said this time her voice was cold, each word hard and firm
Scarlet Morti - November 28, 2007 08:14 PM (GMT)
Scarlet looked at the woman behind the headstone, she watched the crosses glow, Scarlet distantly looked at her bag not so far away, where she had a cross the size of her forearm and a long dagger that came threw it, it was her execution weapon, but her carried it on her at all times.
“ Are you okay” she shot this at the woman, she wondered if she would like a weapon, she had many hidden daggers over her body plus her gun, but it wouldn’t do much, but humans found it comforting. She raised her eyebrow questionly as her left hand went throw the lope on her gun holster, latterly saying do you want a gun!
Turning back to the vampire that she had only taken her eyes of for a small moment seemed to be closer to her, she kept her ground, anyone smart would take a step back but that showed weakness, and never would it cross her mind!
“ Well accidents happen” she said spinning her dagger “ but that is only if you mean us harm, otherwise why would one such as yours self walk up to strangers in a cemetery ?”
Selah DuVall - November 28, 2007 08:21 PM (GMT)
Selah shook her head at Scarlet; she had her own knife and stakes in her bag, if she really needed them, she could withdraw them with little effort. It was the fact that this vampire still hadn't made a move, and was all talk, that was confusing the shit out of her. If she had a reason to be harassing them, fine, but she needed to just get on with it already. Selah's nerves couldn't take it.
"Alright, look," she finally said, voice steady and calm, meeting the vampire's eyes dead on, just briefly, to check her power. There was a slight pull there, but she didn't think she could mindroll her. "I don't know what game you're playing, but if your intention was to come out here and scare the living shit out of someone, you win, and you know damned well you won, I know you can sense it," she went on, voice bolder than she felt just then. "If you're planning on doing something, just do it already, because I swear to God, I am tired, I need a shower, and you're wasting my time. And I can't handle my nerves being on edge like this for much longer."
She raised her eyebrows at the vampire, just waiting, ignoring just how much her legs were suddenly shaking from her declaration.
Rose Muertos Sangre - November 28, 2007 08:30 PM (GMT)
Rose’s mind drifted of for a moment, her hair blowing around her gently framing her pale features, she admired her own sense’s how intense each small was, the small damn musky smell of the earth, to the warm dry or damp headstones that surrounded her casting of the gentle smell of bark from the trees lying not far away.
She turned back to the two women finally taking them in, both in twenties, both dark haired yet the one holding the daggers had more the same dark colourings as herself.
Then finally coming back to her self she looked at the woman, missing her eyes by inches, she never used her power on many, but she had a strong bloodline, and was sure that if she could become strong enough in mastering her bloodlines power she would not mind roll, but take them to the nightmare land of her own reality.
Rose could indeed smell the fear reeking of the Animator, a dead scent that added a tinge of spice to her blood but never liked it suffocating her, she was more interested in the woman that stood bold in front of her, but again she dismissed her played on the weaker side, she moved, her body gliding around as she built her power up, she was getting closer to the woman then in a flash she was behind the young woman her fangs nearly grazing the woman’s scarf, until her cross flared back to life, blinded rose feel back away from the woman hissing like mad.
Scarlet Morti - November 28, 2007 08:37 PM (GMT)
Scarlet looked in disgust at the vampire as she seemed to be out of her head, then she turned surprised at the woman, seeing finally an inch of strength she was tempted to clap but resisted, “ Go girl” she grinned but as soon said the woman seemed to vibrate in fear, or cold, but Scarlet highly doubted.
Then all of a sudden a light burst in her eyes, she felt backwards disorientated feeling her back hit something hard, she opened her eyes and blinked a few times to see what had happened, the woman’s cross had blown up and the vampire lay on the floor just as disoriented as her self, Scarlet froze feeling her dagger gone from her hand as she must have dropped it she pulled out another, contemplating whether to hit or not.
Selah DuVall - November 28, 2007 08:46 PM (GMT)
As soon as the cross glared and flared at the vampire, the heat from the moment of contact sending Selah falling backwards, landing ass-first in the grass of the cemetery, she let out a sharp, angry gasp, both hands moving up to her neck, over the scarf, glaring almost murderously toward the vampire. A flood of memories hit, hard, all of them ending with her pinned to the freezing cold wall of an unknown building, the slicing, searing pain of fangs sinking down into her pulse point riding through her, causing her entire back to tense just as sharply as the noise she'd made.
That was last time. This time, she'd had her crosses. That wasn't happening again. Her neck throbbed beneath the scarf, but that was just the intense memory of being bitten. She was fine. Shaken up and scared fucking shitless, but she was fine.
She scrambled to her feet, not bothering to dust herself off, glaring down at the vampire. "Back off, bitch," she swore, chest rising and falling in almost heaving breaths, ignoring the way her vision was clouding at the edges. Oh no, no, people really didn't faint in the face of terror, that was a stereotype.
