Title: a long walk home
Mia Dubois - March 27, 2008 05:23 AM (GMT)
The sun had long set when Mia finally finished work, she'd been wandering around for a little while, uncertain which of her 'homes' to return to, the pard house was safer, but in all honesty, Michael was still making her jump around like she was walking on mouse traps. It wasn't his fault, not really.
She was careful to avoid any vampires who happened to visit the library, in case Michael didn't like them, either. And she found none of them had such a pull on her, or any. She was glad. She didn't want to upset any members of the pard, especially ones that she found alarming. Even if it hadn't been her fault she had been drawn so to this Gerard.
Mia wasn't thinking properly, or, more to the point, she was letting mer mind drift, she knew she shouldn't, but she had quite a ways to walk and more than enough to think about. Her senses drifted, ignoring the nearly painfully loud hum of the city, the people had thinned out and so she didn't really think to worry about anyone.
Her mind kept running over her short time in Miami. 'so stupid.' she thought, 'already causing problems' and the thoughts continued on, she only stopped them, when to her surprise she found herself slammed against the wall of a big grey building.
It didn't hurt, but she was in an odd position and she automatically tried to turn around. It wasn't any particular extra strength, but humans were still fairly strong, even without lycanthropy. Mia hated using it against humans, it seemed unfair.
'If you want my wallet, go nuts. Theres not much in it.' she said, softly. Her voice was so low it was a wonder he heard her. He started to look for valuables on her, holding her wrists so tight it might have broken a normal girls wrists.
Joshua Quinn - March 27, 2008 05:38 AM (GMT)
Quinn was humming as he walked down steadly darkening streets of Miami. His first date with Sorin ahd gone really well the night before and he was happy with his lot in life.A good woman,a good jod and a pard that was as good as family. He smiled softly as he rounded a corner coming to a stop when the smell of Leoaprd and steel greeted his sentive nose. Tilting his head to the side he tryed to figure out who it was by smell along.
For a moment he coudn't place the scent when suddenly a face flashed in his mind. One of the newer leopards was a submissive Female that Micheal had told him came in smelling like Gerard. He didn't get the full story on what had happened while he was gone but he had a mighty bad feeling about it.
Turning the corner he spotted the Leopardess pinned against the wall with a young punk searching her pockets.A wicked smile graced his face as he strolled over making sure to block the mugger's exit.He stood just behind the two letting his leopard rise to the surface before greeting the two.
"Now that don't look friendly at all".
Mia Dubois - March 27, 2008 05:52 AM (GMT)
The man froze when he heard someone behind him, one hand still holding Mia's hands behind her back, one froze in her front pocket. Still looking for the wallet and anything else.
Mia, however, didn't freeze, she turned her head enough to see if what she smelt was right. She smelt leopard, but she had never met this one, she was rather glad she wasn't in trouble with him, he looked like he could cause some damage.
For her troubles, however, Mia got her head banged into the wall. Which, to the muggers surprise, only made a cut, and made her swear. It should have knocked her out, he still thought she was human.
Mia kind of wished she could shift only her hands, if only to scare him for making her hit her head. She still didn't want to hurt him. Not really, at least. She'd never been very violent. The man finally dropped her hands and said 'hey I didn't mean nothin' before he ran off, feeling the strange energy from the man behind him.
Mia watched him go, then turned around, rubbing her wrists and then putting a hand to her head to feel for damage. 'To whom do I owe the thanks?' she asked, voice still soft, looking at the other leopard from behind her thick brown hair.
Joshua Quinn - March 27, 2008 06:05 AM (GMT)
Quinn sneered at the punk and winced slightly as he watched the Mugger bang Mia's head against the brick wall. Fast healing aside that still had to hurt. He snapped at the kid as he ran past making sure he was still running even after he sped around the corner.
Rubbing a hand across the back of his neck he returned his attention back to the little cat in front of him. He offered a soft smile and dug a clean tissue out of his pocket as he walked closer to the bleeding girl. He offered it to Mia making sure to stay far enough away that she wouldn't feel crowded.
"Name's Quinn Missy.I think I just might know your name.Your Mia right?"
After handing her the tissue Quinn placed his hands in his back pockets letting his cat drift out and send a calming surge of power towards the other cat.
"You alright there.Looks like that was a rough knock on the noggin".
Mia Dubois - March 27, 2008 06:18 AM (GMT)
Mia took the offered tissue and smiled gratefully, dabbing at the wound. It wasn't bleeding much, it'd be long gone within the hour. She appreciated that he didn't try to get in her personal space, even though she didn't mind either way that much. Despite the fact she was one of the more jumpier leopards, she didn't think this man was going to hurt her, rather, he'd stopped her being seriously hurt.
'Yes, I'm Mia.' she nodded. 'Mia Dubois. And apparently Miami's newest magnet for trouble.' she said, still quietly, eying the direction the human had ran too.
Mia watched Quinn curiously, not entirely sure what to make of him, other than it was likely he was pard. She felt him trying to calm her, and it did help.
''I'm fine. I've fallen out of trees much harder than getting slammed against a wall, but thanks.' Mia lent back against the wall, with a sight and mumbled 'Its my fault anyway, wasn't paying attention. I do know better, not that you'd guess.'
Joshua Quinn - March 27, 2008 06:36 AM (GMT)
Quinn chuckled at Mia's word. He loved his fellow leopards but not to many of them had a good sense of humor. It seemed like Mia was comfortable enough to be able to make fun of herself. He leaned back against the wall across from Mia and watched as she dabbed at the small cut on her forehead.
"Miami is a bit on the rough side. Not 'catly the safest place for a young girl to be walking along. I don't think you got to meet me when you were at the Pard house. I was out of town for a couple of weeks handling some Pard stuff for Micheal. I'm one of the Enforcers for the Pard."
Quinn took a moment to glance up and down the street before pushing off the wall. Empty street was the best place for a chit-chat he thought to himself as he walked slower to Mia.
"If you not busy ya wanna get something to eat with me. I'd feel better all in all".
Mia Dubois - March 27, 2008 07:07 AM (GMT)
'Well, I don't think it's the crime rate that gets me in trouble.' she said with a gentle shrug, The last two years had made her get used to getting in trouble, even if most of the time it was just small things. She was certain she got in much less shit before she was changed, but still. She couldn't change anything about that.
'No, I don't think I did... of course, Michael spent half of the visit making sure I didn't jump out of my skin everytime someone walked next to me.' she blushed slightly in the dark. 'Getting better at that. It's nice to meet you... and very well timed.'
'I'm not busy, I was just working out where to go. Avoiding Michael and undead fangy things. Nothing very interesting. Food sounds good.' she said, she was fixing her clothes, straightening them from where she had been manhandled.
Joshua Quinn - March 28, 2008 03:33 AM (GMT)
Quinn nodded as he came to a stop only a few feet from Mia. He stuffed his right hand in the back of his jeans as he waved for her to walk out of the alley. He rolled his shoulders feeling the comfortable weight of the gun on his back before he followed Mia in the main street.
"I try my best to meet all the leopards and have some mighty good timing" He offered a grin as he looked up and down the street. Pointing south he looked over at the female leopard.
"You got Taco and burgers that way" He turned and pointed the other way. "And Chicken and Ribs that way. I'm pretty open 'ta whatever you might like".
Mia Dubois - March 28, 2008 05:08 AM (GMT)
Mia followed Quinn out of the alley, turning her eyes quickly from the glaring street light. banged heads and bright lights where no fun, even if it'd be okay in a little while. The main street was as quiet as the one she had left before she went in the alley, she looked at Quinn when he spoke again, listening carefully.
'Good timing is a very good virtue, aye.' she said with a soft smile. 'As for meeting the leopards - I seem to keep running into them, certainly in no short supply, unlike back home.'
Watching where he pointed for food, she considered for a moment. 'I'm partial to chicken, if you don't mind.' She was still a little shy, there was no reasoning to it, she just was, despite how easy it was for her to talk. Mia tugged absentmindedly at her necklace, it was made of steel (a copy of her silver original) and had a small pendant of a woman on it, simply shaped, elegant. Her answer to a crucifix.
Joshua Quinn - March 28, 2008 09:11 PM (GMT)
Quinn crossed his arms across his broad chest as he waited for Mia to decide. In his years of mingling with leopards he found it weas often easier to have options for them to chose. It felt less like he was forcing something oin them and that seemed to make them more at ease in general. He watched quietly as Mia glanced around then turned back to him slowly.

| 'I'm partial to chicken, if you don't mind.' |
He offered a friendly smile and nodded, "Chicken it'll be then."
He headed off in the direction of the chicken joint making sure to take his time and move slowly so that Mia would find it easy to keep up with his long legged stride. Wanting to keep the conversation easy and light he turned his head and glanced over at the young girl.
"So how long have you been in Miami ? ,You like it here so far?"
Mia Dubois - March 28, 2008 11:30 PM (GMT)
Still playing with her necklace, Mia followed Quinn down the street, she was watching the surrounding now, unlike before, so when he spoke, she startled just a little, making her step jump for a second, before she looked at him and considered the question.
'Uh, a little over a week, actually. Very new around here. It's alright, though I kind of miss my forests back home. So many trees.' she smiled fondly at the thought of them, she'd grown up near the woods and didn't know how to live without them, but she was coping well enough in the city, if not for the alarming amount of shapeshifters she had a habit of running into she might have felt fine.
Mia had visited cities, sure enough. However, living on one was a very different bag of bones. 'Its very hot here. I'm from Washington state. Much less with the heat more with the rain.'
Joshua Quinn - March 29, 2008 04:06 AM (GMT)
Quinn nodded as he walked making sure to keep his stride easy. He noticed the way Mia seemed to forget his was there for a moment and was startled at the sound of his voice when he asked his question. Made him wonder what kind of a pard she came from and what the Nimir-Raj was like. He kept a half eye on the street as the street lights slowly started to flicker on.
"Washington ,huh? That's a bit of a drive from here. You got family round..Is that why you chose Miami to settle down at?" Quinn spotted the chicken shop on the other side of the street from where they were so he made his way off the side walk and into the empty street. He looked up and waited for Mia to follow him.
Mia Dubois - March 29, 2008 06:12 AM (GMT)
'I caught a plane here, I don't drive.' she said with a shrug. 'Didn't take very long, even if it's a long way.' Mia let go of her necklace, trading playing with that for twirling her hair around her fingers, it was like she had to fiddle with something.
'I've got no family around here, they all live back home. It's better like this. Joseph, my little brother, hasn't got a good grip on the idea of his sisters ability to eat him if he's not careful on full moons.' the last was softer - she missed her brother, no matter how annoying he may have been some of the time. 'besides, I needed to find a Pard, I only knew some wolves.' It was still soft, barely a breath. She'd been alone for too long, she sometimes wondered if it was all just some odd and twisted dream and she was still home with her family.
Mia followed him easily, across the street. The smell of food made her beast surface a little, even though getting attacked hadn't. She felt the brief brush of fur against her insides that still made her feel a little queasy and sighed. She was going to have to pack more food for work, or walk much quicker home in the future.
Joshua Quinn - March 30, 2008 06:09 AM (GMT)
Quinn waited till the pair was across the strret before he replied to swer. Her comment about being around wolves made him curious but he didn't think asking her a bunch of questions at once would help her get more comfortable in his presence. He stood to the side of the double doors holding it open for Mia before he spoke.
"You don't drive? You haven't got your license yet?" A honest question that wasn't prying to much was all the Quinn was going to attempt. The smell of fried chicken hit his nose and his felt his stomach growl at bit in time with his beast.
Mia Dubois - March 30, 2008 09:41 AM (GMT)
Mia watched him open the door for her, and a look of curiosity briefly crossed her face before she entered the shop, she stopped just inside of the door to answer him. 'Uh, well I can drive a horse and cart, but nothing that runs on fuel, no.' she said with another gentle shrug. 'I've always done a lot of walking - but Dad used to take me to school... when I was still going. I worked with the forest rangers.'
She had always loved that job, she'd hardly ever gotten lost in the Forest. She knew her way so well. She knew, even when she was human, how to track and climb trees better than most. The forest was another kind of home to her, even if sometimes it scared her now, because she had been attacked in it, she couldn't help but return.
Joshua Quinn - March 30, 2008 05:25 PM (GMT)
Quinn waited till Mia had entered the shop fully before he left the door swing shut. He glanced around the half empty shop paying attention to anyone that might look shadey. For a run down shop near the bad side of town it wasn't as bad as Quinn thought it was going to be.Looking over at the front counter where the help was standing around Quinn looked over his shoulder at Mia as he approached the counter.
"You worked in the forest. That must been nice. What'cha all did on that job?" Quinn rested his hands once more on his hips as he looked over the menu.Since he made it a point to meet all the new pard members it was always nice when he found out they might have things in common.
Mia Dubois - March 30, 2008 09:40 PM (GMT)
Mia went to the counter and ordered some chicken and chips and payed for them with the money in her wallet she pulled out from under her shirt. The mugger hadn't had time to find it, which she was glad for, even if it didn't contain anything large money wise.
'The job? Ah well a lot of it was looking after tourists. Or finding them if they got lost. Sometimes we did tracking, mostly animals... the actually animals all the time kind, I mean. We - well I never took the offers to track the wolves.' she had her face turned to him, waiting for her food to come, but not speaking overly loud so the humans wouldn't hear much over all the cooking appliances and themselves.
When they brought her her food, she moved to the side of the register, out of his way.
Joshua Quinn - March 31, 2008 01:16 AM (GMT)
Quinn let Mia move in front of him and start to order her food. As he told the shaggy haired youth what she wanted Quinn pulled out his phone and checked the time. It wasn't that late in the day but he had been half expecting a call from Bou. Since he had gotten back in town he hadn't really had a chance to spend time with the kitten and showing up at the Pard house covered in his Maker's scent wasn't likey to make the Snow Leopard overly happy. After slipping his phone back into his jean pocket Quinn looked up in time to hear Mia talk about her job.
He settled his hands across his chest moving closer to the counter as she slipped out of his way. He quickly order Chicken with Mashed Potatoes while pulling out his wallet. He would have offered to pay for Mia's but that seemed like crossing the line and he wasn't ready for that just yet.
"Bet your used to being outdoors alot then" Quinn mentioned picking up his tray and waiting for Mia to do the same.
Mia Dubois - March 31, 2008 01:30 AM (GMT)
Mia picked up her tray and looked around at Quinn to answer his question. 'Yeah, but I also worked part time at the library back home. I'm alright most places.' she shrugged slightly. 'Growing up in my family requires outdoors savvyness.' she said, a soft laugh accompanied the though, though it was gone as quick as it came.
'I work at the library here. It's nice, though I think I'm going to have to change shifts.' she nearly explained why, but she didn't. Especially not near the all too interested help. Tilting her head towards the tables she asked 'where shall we sit?' Slightly to her amusement, the board youth at the register seemed to be trying to listen in on their conversation, but failed to hear her soft replies. She snorted slightly, when she looked away from the direction of the counter.
Joshua Quinn - March 31, 2008 10:22 PM (GMT)
Following Mia's example Quinn picked up his tray and sood next to the leopardess. He sent a look over his shoulder towards the young kid that seemed to be hanging on to their every word. The boy caught Quinn's eyes for a moment then hurriedly looked away grabbing a towel to wipe down the clean counter top.
Sighing Quinn tore his gaze away and glanced around the half filled shop spotting a cluster of empty tables near the wiindow. It would be a good spot to view the front door so Quinn motioned over to it with a jerk off his head. As he walked he caught the tail end of what she was saying.
"Yeah. I get ya on the need to change hours. You work alot during the week?" Quinn asked as he settled his tray on the table and looked up at Mia.
Mia Dubois - March 31, 2008 10:40 PM (GMT)
Mia followed Quinn to the tables and sat down across from him, setting her tray on the table then picking at her chips, eating one here and there. Mia looked out the windows at the street, watching for something, she knew it probably wouldn't happen, but still. She planned on making sure she didn't get into a bad situation twice in so short of a time.
Not that she was convinced that it was a bad situation... but she trusted Michael, or, rather, his desire to protect his Pard. If he said no, she wouldn't. And Gerard was a definite no.
'Five days a week, from noon to about.. now, actually. We closed the library early. Annie had to go home, and I didn't want to be there alone.' she said, still quietly. She didn't look at Quinn, or even her food, her eyes were still glued to the window
Joshua Quinn - March 31, 2008 11:58 PM (GMT)
Quinn leaned against the table bracing his elbows as he started to tuck into his chicken. He had taken a bite when Mia started talking so he looked up quickly making sure to check the door before turning his attention to her. He tilted his head to the side as he swallowed the chicken and made a grab for the Sweet Tea he had bought with his meal.
"What time does the library close any how?" Quinn asked after taking a sip of his drink. He watched thoughtfully as Mia kept glancing out the window. He wondered briefly if she was expecting someone or if it was a nervous twitch kind of thing.
Mia Dubois - April 1, 2008 12:08 AM (GMT)
Letting her eyes go back to Quinn when he spoke she replied 'Sometimes as late as twelve. The younger.. vampires, they go to the library sometimes. Can't go until after sunset, of course, so someone has to take the late shift - and I figured if they were stupid and didn't feed... well the other librarians are more human, and more likely to get hurt.' she shrugged slightly, before eating some of her meal, her eyes drifting back outside.
'Probably should change to sunny hours though, I never want Michael to get that cranky with me again.' she left off that she found him much more frightening than any of the vampires she had met, including Gerard. She met some at the library, after meeting Gerard. They didn't make her scared out of her skin - just cautious.
Joshua Quinn - April 1, 2008 12:27 AM (GMT)
Quinn nodded setting down his tea before pciking up another leg of chcken. He hadn't thought about Vampires going to the library,it seemed off to him. Most of the Vamps he had run across were usually old enough they felt they didn't need to learn anything else.He took another bite keeping his eye on the door as a group of boys headed in laughing loudly.
Setting the cleaned bone back down on his plate Quinn wiped his hands off on a napkin. He leaned back in his chair tooking towards Mia once again.Placing his hands in his lap he kept one eye on Mia and one eye on the boys.
"Micheal's just worried bout you. I don't trust the Vampires around here any more than I can throw one. I had issues before i moved here though". Quinn spared a thought to his old Pard wondering how they were. It was sad to see a Nimir-Raj hurt his Pard like that but there was nothing Quinn could do about it now.
Mia Dubois - April 1, 2008 12:39 AM (GMT)
Mia jumped slightly at the sound of laughter, but settled herself down again, turning away from the intrusive noise, blocking them from her view with her long hair.
'A few of them look barely legal, the little ones, the others think they're harmless... I know they're not, but I can't blame them for thinking they are. Though, when push comes to shove, probably still more harmful than me.'
She was speaking a little louder, enough to be easily heard over the boys. What they were laughing at, she didn't know, but somewhere inside her her beast wanted to give them a good smacking across the room for frightening her, however unintentional it had been. Mia swallowed the urge and looked to Quinn when he spoke again.
'I know he's worried. Rhia didn't look too happy either.. but she didn't make me feel like I was the next meal. I think if I'd let myself run I might have been dinner.' she cringed. The urge to run had been so very strong, she could still feel the urge. 'But I think you probably could throw them a decent distance if you tried.' she smiled slightly. 'I'd never met any before I got here... of course, I'd only met one other leopard than myself too. If met is even the right word...' her voice trailed off.
Joshua Quinn - April 1, 2008 01:14 AM (GMT)
Quinn pushed his chair out a little so that he could lean forward angainst the table top. Keeping his arms on the table he watched as the boys got food and headed to the other side of the shop. His Leopard gave a quiet purr of approval as it would be easier to watch them if they were not right on top of the Leoaprds.
"Vampires are never harmless. They're always looking for ways ta get more power." Quinn shook his head snorting slightly. "I've been lucky enough to not run in to but one Vamp since I've been here".
Quinn raised his hand enough to knock on the fake wood of the table. Hopefully his luck held and he wouldn't have the chance to meet more anything soon. " Ya gotta be careful. I'm not totally sure but I think one of the Stronger Vamp's can call Leopards. I know the Master of the City calls wolves unless I got my info wrong".
Mia Dubois - April 1, 2008 01:22 AM (GMT)
Mia who had gone back to eating her food when she was finished speaking, looked briefly for the other people, noticing they had sat down away from her and Quinn she relaxed a little.
Picking up a piece of chicken she looked at Quinn when he mentioned vampires calling leopards. She knew who it was. She was drawn to the vampire.
'It's Gerard. He calls big cats, all big cats.' it was barely a breath above a whisper, as if she was sure the name would make something happen. Of course, nothing did happen, but when she spoke quietly again she said 'I know it's him for certain. He's called me before.' The thought didn't seem to bother her as much as it should have.
'He was trying to call the tiger I was with, too.. but she's an alpha, I'm not even close.' Mia had had a lot of time to think it over, and she was sure this is what it was. It had to be... but Gerard had been a comfort, not a hurt. 'He shifted me back into my human form.. too...'
Joshua Quinn - April 1, 2008 01:36 AM (GMT)
Quinn slowly sat up leaning back as he did. The was a frown on his face and the look of thoughfullness increased. He tapped one long finger against the table thinking about what this could mean. For Gerard to call the beat of a leopard that just gotten into to town must have meant something bad. He wondered if Micheal knew everything that Mia just told him. If he didn't he was about too.
"Does Micheal know all 'bout that Sugar?" Quinn asked his finger still tapping lightly against the hard surface of the table. He didn't know that Gerard could call more than one animal, it made him wonder if Darla had more than one animal to call as well.
Mia Dubois - April 1, 2008 01:44 AM (GMT)
Mia frowned a little, setting her food down again. She wasn't sure how much sense she had made to Michael, or if he was even listening.
'I, Uh. I don't know. Wasn't in a listening mood..Not entirely sure how much sense I was making anyways... Only reason I went to the Pard house that night was because I was told to tell them something about a dinner meeting.' her voice was soft, a little worried and more than a little confused.
'Gerard... he didn't hurt me or anything...' she blinked a little. 'Michael seemed to be under the impression I was the devil in disguise though...' Mia swallowed at the thought. It wasn't comforting. She'd been staying in her apartment to avoid him.
Joshua Quinn - April 1, 2008 01:56 AM (GMT)
Sensing the distress that was coming off the other loepard Quinn sent out his own strong roll of comfort. Now he really wished he hadn't been out of town as long as he had been. hind sight was 20-20 though so Quinn just shook his head. Pulling the chair closer to the table he shot a look over to the group of boys that had quieted down rather suddenly.
They seemed to be focused on something in the middle of the table so Quinn just turned back to Mia. He rolled his shoulders and relaxed as much as he could.
" Twasn't you Sugar. From what I've gathered Gerard wants to meet with the Pard". Quinn hadn't actually heard so much from Micheal but had been piecing what happened while he was gone together. it didn't make his beast happy one bit. "You have nothing 'ta fear from the Pard. You don't need 'ta stay away. Everyone would like to meet ya I'm sure." Quinn forwned thoughtfully before adding more. "I might stay away from any Vamp's till we know for sure what's gonna on.Don't wanna take any chances you see".
Mia Dubois - April 1, 2008 02:10 AM (GMT)
Mia was ignoring the boys rather successfully, and didn't really care why they had quieted down. She felt the push of calm against her, and she shook her head a little. She was getting sick of that, however well intended it was. She didn't need it right now. Maybe if she was scared, really scared, but not now.
'He wanted to meet Rhia and Michael, told me as much...' she said quietly, again she tugged at the necklace again. She knew the pard was home, but she was yet to work out what kind of home. The first time she'd been there, it was fine, but then, Michael hadn't scared her out of her wits the first time.
'I know I don't have to stay away.' it was quiet still, but her voice was more controlled. 'I've never been in a Pard before. I'm not used too it.' she shrugged. 'I've been a leopard since I was 16, I shouldn't be scared of everything still, but...' she sighed, pushing her long forgotten food out of her way.
Joshua Quinn - April 1, 2008 02:16 AM (GMT)
Quinn keep a watchful eye on the kids when he noticed them casting looks forwards the leoaprds. Keeping half his attention on the boys Quinn asked Mia another question.
"You've never had a pard before. Can I ask how you got infected or would you rather not say?" Quinn knew that alot people didn't like to talk about how they got infected. Some just didn't want to think about it which Quinn didn't blame them for.The attacks to be a feline lycan had to near fatal and talking about the attack didn't sit well with them . Some people even manged to block theie attack all the way out of their mind.
"I'll tell you my story if you'd like".
Mia Dubois - April 1, 2008 02:32 AM (GMT)
Mia blinked at the question, then after a second she said ''In the forest, I was checking a trail. It was just before the full moon, but we'd never had trouble with the shifters back home.' she shrugged. 'Guess he wasn't from around there. And I was alone.. ' she shuddered slightly at the thought, in her head it played out like a movie.
'I've not seen him before or since. He was in the trees, I didn't see him. I should have died.' she shrugged and looked out the window, resting her head against it. Despite the nightmares, she tried not to let it bother her. There were more details to the story, ones that still made her body ache, but he didn't need to know them. The basics she was willing to share.
Mia didn't look at him after she heard him speak, she didn't really respond except a shrug, to say 'if you like.'
Joshua Quinn - April 1, 2008 02:43 AM (GMT)
Quinn seetled back in his chair trying to get as comfy as he could before starting his story. It actually even had a back story to it as well. Wanting to take his time he reached out and grabbed his glass of tea and took a sip. The action gave him a chance to look over at the boys with out being noticable about it.
"Well I Joined the Armed Forces right out of school. I was actaully on tour in Italy when a Rouge Leopard killed my CO and tryed 'ta eat me. I happened to have a silver knife on hand so i killed it before it could kill me". Quinn offered a shrug as he twirled the cup in his hands. He watched the Tea splashed around before looking up. "Needless to say when Uncle Sam found out I wasn't in the force much longer than that".
Mia Dubois - April 1, 2008 02:53 AM (GMT)
Mia listened to his story, it was, by far, more interesting than her own, even if she had put the gory details back where they belonged. She looked at Quinn. 'Sorry about your CO. The Government.. ah well. They don't have much sense anyway.' she said with a sort of smile.
Army did explain more than one thing about Quinn, including why he seemed suspicious of the boys across the room. Curious she said 'What do you think they're up too? You keep watching them.' she was eager to change the conversation form leopards who liked to snack on people, even if it was highly unlikely she was in the 'people' category any longer.

Quinn could only offer a shrug to Mia's question when a sudden smell had him on edge. He couldn't pin point what it was but his beast didn't like it one bit. He pushed his chair back sharply making a shrill noise as he stood up. The boys looked over startled by the noise and in Quinn's eyes looked like they were exchanging odd looks. Staring them down Quinn spoke to Mia using soft tones.
'I think it's time ta go Mia.Your finished right?"
Quinn smoothly moved around the table coming to a stop next to Mia noticing the only people paying them any attention were the small group of boys. Looking over Quinn checked to see if Mia was moving out of her seat yet. He had a odd feeling about those kids and his gut hadn't failed him yet.

Mia frowned, no understanding what was going on, but she was willing to trust Quinn.
'Sure,' she said, getting up, her chair moving back with a slight squeak. 'I don't think I could eat much at the moment.' continued, glancing over at the table of boys, trying to spot some kind of clue, but the brief glance only gained her the fact that they were watching Quinn and herself. She couldn't fathom why.
Mia was next to Quinn, still frowning slightly before she went to the door.

Quinn left the store only breathing in easy once both himself and Mia were safely out of the store. He glanced behind his shoulder in time to see a dissapointed look flash across a couple of the boys faces. Making sure to cross the street before he answered Mia's question Quinn headed off in the direction of the Pard house slowing his steps now that they were out of danger.
"Not sure if they were just guessing at what we were but they had something Silver with them" Quinn mentioned glancing over his shoulder at Mia. "Figured better safe than sorry". Crossing his arms across his chest He shot a look at Mia. "Did you smell anything funny in there?"

Mia followed Quinn across the street and in the general direction of the Pard house. She didn't like the idea of going back much, despite the fact that she would. Frowning when Quinn answered the question she said 'Silver? I wish I could say I was surprised.'
She wasn't sure if she understood humans or not anymore, though she missed her silver jewelery - just not enough to wear it still. Thinking, Mia frowned and shook her head. 'I wasn't really paying that much attention to them, honestly. It smelt a little odd, I think.. but' she shrugged again and kept walking, She kept pace with him easily, she was quick when she wanted to be.

Quinn cast one more look over his shoulder to make sure the kids didn't have the idea to follow the two or anything stupid like that. Once he was sure the coast was clear he looked over at Mia. He hadn't planned on actually going to the Pard house but was unsure if Mia would like to go over. The Pard was welcome anything but he had planned on calling Sorin to see what she was up to.
"Did 'cha want to go to the Pard house? Your more than welcome to hang out with if you wanna. I was just gonna run around a bit and check out my Diner". Quinn slowly came to a stop knowing that the house wasn't to far from where they stood.
