Title: Two headed Kingsizi fry

Jay - October 21, 2007 10:02 AM (GMT)
This is kind of interesting. Im not sure if anyone else has expierenced this before. But I found a two headed fry in my last lot. Both heads are operational but its tail is a little deformed. I keeped it for two days to observe and take a couple of pics. Than I flushed the poor fellow. Their name was Berny. Thats short for Burt & Ernie. Its tought getting a good shot of something so small that is in a little jar. But heres what I got.

Love the name!

Looks like the fishy version of siamese twins, Jay. I've heard of it but never seen it before.

Was that from the kingsizei you got from me?

Wow that neat to see! I've heard of it, but like most people I haven't seen it before.

That is something else for sure. I have to say tho, I am a bit disappointed you didnt raise it up for a while. If it lasted that is.

Ya I thought about growing it out for a while. But That would not be fair the the fish. It could not swim right. So it could not survive with the other fry. And I dont have the space to keep it on its own.

Very interesting pic, Jay!

Thanks for sharing and I believe you did the right
thing by euthanizing it!

Interesting pic. I feel like that some mornings! Could you tell if there were two spines?

Jay - October 23, 2007 10:11 PM (GMT)
It had two spines until about half way. Then it was fused together for the tail end. The same went for the dorsal fin. It was pretty interesting observing it for the couple of days that I did. It both heads were eating well. They just had a problem trying to figure out what way to go. Left or right. They were not working very well at swimin together as one.

Thats awsome Jay,,,,my buddy Les here on the forum had a two-headed something. I forgot what they were,,maybe if he sees this thread he'll tell us.

Which reminds me of another fry he had. He had an albino Burundi Frontosa fry!!!
Boy let me tell you that caused quite a stir on the 'other' forum. People dont ever believe it until they see it. He showed everybody both fish and stil got doubts.

Can you tell us how many fry you got from these parents,,maybe that had something to do with the deformalities??? I have heard that if parents have ALOT of fry,,,these things can happen???

Jay - February 19, 2008 09:53 AM (GMT)
That female has usally around 30 - 40 fry. The two headed one way the only deformed fry that she has had.

very interesting thanks for sharing

good pic! I found this a few times myself- another reason I really dont want to strip these days.
I believe mom normally would swallow them?

I wasnt gonna touch the albino frontosa fry, but...my old digital camera was one of the first attempts that Minolta created when going digital. The albino burundi would stay right at the water line against the tank glass- since the camera had a terrible depth of field, and was unable to shut off the auto focus feature and focus manually- all I could get on film was a clear shot of teh water line against the glass but a pink blurred fry. I must have shot 100 pics but they all came out bad.The fry was a weak, blind, and never ate. It died a few days later.

They say opinions are like a-wholes and everyone has one- well unfortunately that frontosa forum has a lot of A-wholes- since I couldnt get a good shot- they blasted me (all but two nivce members over there)- apparently the "experts" havent seen an albino frontosa- therefore they simply dont exist.

So Jay, nice pics man! A lot of people wouldnt have believe it since they havent seen it with their own eyes before nowGood Job Good Job

Mruf you need to sign up to http://photobucket.com/ and then upload your pic there. After that you can resize your pic if you wish to. The final step is to click on IMG Code and it will automatically copy your pic then just paste it in your post.
