Title: Largest brood ever!

What is the largest brood everyone has ever had from a mbuna? My WC Psedotropheus lombardoi pair have kicked it in to overdrive. They are breeding every month and a half and the mouth fulls just keep getting bigger and bigger. Her last brood was around 70 to 80 fry. This is crazy. How does she fit that many babys in her little mouth. I notice last night that she has another huge mouth full. Her last brood was only on August 30th. I guess thats less than a month and a half. Anyway what are some of the largest broods that other people have got?

I don't really know how many my larger mbuna hold any more. I normally let them spit in the tank. My smaller fish don't hold more than 30 - 35 and some far less than that. 70 - 80, that's huge!

Mine are still not fully grown, but thus far a couple of 25's by two Acei is the largest spawn I've had.

Jay, it seems like the more mature and experienced the females get, the more they are able to hold. We couldn't keep track of our clutches from our older fuelleborni females.
I guess we shouldn't complain!
I've found that those females who produce such large clutches so often tend to need some extra TLC between clutches, so I try to allow them some time alone if at all possible to recuperate!

How you ask? well look at Giuness world Records people have Stuffed like Hundreds of Straws in their mouths before.
Fish are no different, Some Female fishes can open there mouths wider I guess.... On the Floor Laughing Much like us..LOL

Not a mbuna, but I got ~120 free swiming fry from 4" Placidochromis sp. "electra blue" Hongi Island female
