Title: Mongo & Cichlid Haven Saved My Fish
Pseudospecialops - October 4, 2007 06:42 AM (GMT)
Some time ago, Mongo advised me (upon my return to fishkeeping after a 20-year absence) to get two heaters for each of my decent-sized tanks, so if one thermostat stuck on "on" it wouldn't cook my fish.
This week a heater in my 33L did just that, and I caught it when the temp got up to 86 degrees F in one end.
I have to replace that heater (and have had a temp as low as 76 in the meantime with the other one operating solo) but Mongo's suggestion saved me from a huge problem.
So, thanks to Mongo and to Cichlid Haven! Cheers!!!
PS: Is this a sufficiently heart-rending story for Oprah to invite me and Mongo to appear on her program to discuss it?

Mongo is the man!
Don, I believe the whole forum should be invited to discuss
various topics concerning our hobby!
It would be great to start out with "Beware of the LFS!" On the Floor Laughing

Don, I think you should write Oprah...But you might warn her about Mongo...He might bring some of those turtles and snakes aboard and try to be our representative "Crocodile Hunter"... Wooo hoo!!

I realized after I wrote this that I would be violating one of the rules of media positioning: never appear on a show next to someone wearing a uniform. They'll always look sharper and more reliable than you do! Blush

BTW, my second Aqua Systems heater just froze up in this same way on the same tank. Both were in use for less than 6 months.
Right now I'm exclusively with Stealth heaters, which hopefully work out better.

PSO, I am glad I was of assistance and helped you to save your fish. I dont know how I missed this thread initialy, but I am here now.
Me....on Oprah...I dont think that would work. For one, I get the distinct impression she dosnt like cops in general. And I am deffiantely too red neck for day time television. The first time someone came at me with a powder puff to help with "That little bit of shine" on my nose...well you all have good imaginations. I am not sure what the assault laws in where ever she tapes are...but you can imagine the stink that would raise. Cant you just see the headlines on CNN..."Red neck cop from Texas assaults network television make-up artist...says "Powder...we dont need no steenking powder!" No probably not a good idea...just wouldnt be prudent.
